I really hate to give 1-star reviews, especially when all I want is to support my fellow AAPIs, but I just did not like the food here at all. Outside of the owner being nice and answering my partner's many questions, I can't find anything else positive to say. We ordered Dan Dan noodles and the 13 spice scallion oil stir fried noodles, and both were disappointing. They were SO salty from the get go and the saltiness just kept building in our mouths as we ate. The noodles were also over cooked and didn't have that chewy QQ texture. I couldn't taste any sesame flavor in the Dan Dan noodles, as it was pretty much just sitting in a bath of oil, and the minced pork was just salty too. Meanwhile, I couldn't taste a single spice in the 13 spice noodles, though I could see the peppers in the dish. Everything just tasted - you guessed it - salty. I also feel like the ratio of meat to noodles was way off LOL it's weird to complain that there was too much meat, but this dish really needed more carbs to balance out the flavor. And these prices are just outrageous. I know it's DC and it's Union Market, but if you're marketing your food as "street food" then it shouldn't cost $15-20 per dish. The shrimp wonton egg noodle soup was so jarring to me at $18.50 - even in San Francisco of all cities, this dish costs no more than $11 at Hong Kong cafes (don't get me started on how it was under $5 when I was a kid). Or at least if it's gonna be expensive, it should taste good too. I'm genuinely sad to leave such a negative review for an up and coming Chinese business. As a native Californian and someone who visited family in Taiwan every summer growing up, I love and have very high expectations for Chinese food, but this just wasn't it for me. I hope that it was an off day, but even so I probably won't be coming back.

Ordered from their place at Union Market. I only got one dish so I don't think this review can really be considered a full review. If you're trying to decide whether to order from here, check out other reviewers that tried several of their dishes. As for me, I'll have to come back to experience more from this restaurant before truly throwing my weight behind a set rating. What we got:Pork bao bun - 2.5-3* the size was really fun, the overall taste, not so much. The bun on it's own was pretty standard. The meat inside the bun was very disappointing. It was pretty dry and did not have much flavor. The best part of the dish was their dipping sauce, it is amazing! While it can't quite save the sad state of the bao, it did enhance it slightly. I would love to try dipping other items into their dipping sauce to see what else it compliments.

I LOVE the vision and the mission of the Chinese Street Market, as they strive to rotate through various vendors through their food market program. They offer noodle kits, chili oil, dumplings, shumai, buns, chef specials, and even items that you can purchase through their international market.I saw their pop-up stand, located in Union Market, and I knew I had to check them out!The menu is quite limited, as it's a small stand, offering everything that is housemade and made-to-order. I ordered their veggie version of the steamed big bao (they also had pork filling) and an order of their dan dan noodles. Note that you can also opt the latter as a vegetarian-style, which is so great to have options for those who are being mindful of their meat intake. The dan dan noodles had great flavor; just wished the noodles were al dente, as it was overcooked; plenty of sauce and plenty of ground pork made this a very filling dish! The large steamed bao was massive - the bun itself was so fluffy and yummy, and the filling was quite overwhelming in terms of the amount! It seems to be a mixture of mushrooms and legumes, and it was savory and yummy dipped in their house chili oil and their dan dan noodles house made soy sauce - YUM!The staff here are super welcoming, friendly, and kind - I'd love to check out their future pop-ups to see what other items they offer.Try this place out!+tasty steamed baos+chili oi!+vegetarian options available!+friendly staff!+pop-up located at Union Station, adjacent to Peregrine Espresso

Xinjiang braised chicken hand-pulled noodle was pretty good. Noodles had a good soft yet firm texture, and chicken was moist and flavorful.

I ordered some of their dishes when they had a pop up in Union Market. The staff is super friendly and accommodating! I really enjoyed the hot Hong Kong milk tea... it was almost fragrant like a rose :-) I also like their Mala Hot Pot. It's more numbing than spicy, but I loved that there was a wide variety of veggies and was super flavorful. Some rice or noodles would have made it perfect. The Pan-fried Pork Bun and the Spicy (Sichuan) Beef Noodle Soup were both good.. not bad, but nothing too extraordinary.

Incredibly disappointed with Chinese Street Market. Ordered the Dan-Dan Noodles and found them to be over cooked and far too salty. There was hardly any heat or flavor from the sauce. It tasted like soggy spaghetti with unseasoned ground pork. I couldn't finish it. For $18, it was a total waste as there are far better vendors at Union Market.

I got a hot hong king milk tea and it was disgusting lol i never write reviews but it was so bad i had to. the first time it was handed to me it was COLD and didn't even taste like tea so I I was like hey isn't this supposed to be hot? and the person working apologized and poured the same drink back into a metal cup to reheat it. When it was handed back to me again it was like maybe 3 degrees warmer - like under lukewarm..but i felt bad and didn't want to bother anymore and just left with it. When i tasted it again still tasted nothing like tea. Wayyyyyy too milky and had a burnt/incense scent. Not even reminiscent of a real milk tea. I don't even have high standards but trust me you can make a better one at home :) Nothing wrong with the service and other food maybe fine (didn't try) just don't get the milk tea.

LOUSY!I had the mapu tofu with beef and it was awful. The beef came as a thin layer on top of a mountain of rice, thin as snow caps after 5 years of global warming. It was over salty. There were some tofu pieces as well. I couldn't finish the tofu, nor the rice.Yes, meat is expensive but when you sell something over $17, a decent amount of meat is not out of reach.Never going again.
