Mixed bag: dinner food was great (best Guac I've had in DC actually and birria de res soup was filling and bountiful). The service was also very good and attentive, and the music in the patio was perfect. I really liked a lot about the place, so it was a bummer that the patio is littered with trash and looks pretty scrappy -- it and the bathroom could use some regular TLC.If they got someone to keep the space spruced up, their food was good enough to compete with other popular Mexican spots in the city. Second what everyone says about the habanero sauce. Delish!

Been driving by this for a while, made the effort to stop. Well worth it! Give it a try.

The food is really good. We had a bunch of tacos, a chorizo con papas quesadilla and margaritas. All were wonderful. The service isn't quite there yet but we live around the corner so we can come back and see if they iron that out. If you live in the area they are worth a check out :) If the owner sees this please add a kids menu. There are so many families around here! And a good after dinner/midday coffee menu with some sweets would go over so so well!

After a neighbor recommended the spot, I came here with a friend one Saturday morning (~9am) and we were the only people there but could hardly talk to each other with the Reggaeton blasting our eardrums out. The food was not good either. I ordered the 3 breakfast tacos (the bottom 3 on their breakfast menu) and all of them had what tasted like burnt egg crisps. Really couldn't enjoy the tacos unfortunately. The two stars are for 1) the coffee and 2) their habanero hot sauce. I'm quite amazed how some found this place good, makes me curious whether their non-breakfast tacos are better.

Welcome to the neighborhood Chimalli! As a resident in the 16th St. Heights/Petworth Area my family could not be more thrilled about this new restaurant. I learned of it from the owner herself as she strolled past my house (because it turns out she is a neighbor), and my wife and I went in an hour later for our first meal. We immediately loved the upbeat yet relaxing ambience (music and decor), and the food for sure tasted as great as it smelled! I had the elote with grilled chicken as well as a mushroom taco, and it proved to be an excellent inaugural lunch there... we grabbed to-go coffees on the way out. I recommend dining at Chimalli, I'll certainly be going back!

Shrimp tacos were juicy, Pibil tacos were moist, and carne asada tacos were flavorful (best one)! Have to say this place maybe our new taco place in the neighborhood. Will be visiting again soon.

Happy to have Chimalli in the neighborhood! We sat outside for breakfast and I had the breakfast burrito which was excellent. The service was great too. I will definitely return! (Note: the menu has changed a bit from the picture that is posted).
