Chiang Mai Thai Cookhouse offers excellent northern Thai cuisine, great service, and a lovely ambiance. The ceiling is adorned with stylish metallic lanterns, enhancing the sophisticated atmosphere complemented by vintage decor and a large bar featuring various wine bottles. The Lao papaya salad, featuring fermented fish paste and crab, paired well with crunchy green papaya and deep-fried calamari. The shrimp pad Thai had a tangy tamarind sauce, and the Beef Ka Pow Krob was fulfilling with its subtle, sweet chili garlic sauce. Their desserts were great: the lemon pudding cake and the standout Thai tea chocoflan.

Chiang Mai is a comfortable and conveniently located Thai restaurant with a wide range of offerings , friendly service and convenient parking. We enjoyed the Tom Yum soup and the Thai papaya salad. Both portions were very generous leaving enough to pack up and bring half home. The entrees of the drunken noodles with beef and the shrimp pad thai were the same - tasty to enjoy at lunch with enough to bring home half. For dessert, since our favorite, mango with sticky rice was out of season (one more reason we are excited for winter to be over already) we had the crispy bananas with coconut ice cream. The bananas were indeed crispy and hot on the outside and warm and yummy on the inside. The ice cream came with chocolate sauce and whipped cream and though it was a little hard from the freezer, we couldn't wait for it to soften before it was all gone. The interior of the restaurant has some interesting collections which we would love to hear the stories behind. Someone had a wonderful childhood with cabbage patch dolls we suspect. The seating is comfortable with a lot of large banquet tables as well as regular tables. The parking garage has plenty of spaces and is right around the corner of the building.

Really cute and cozy inside! I only tried the pad Thai which tasted authentic and had a bit of a roasted flavor. The chicken was cooked really well and not dry at all. I would come back and try more food here - the menu is huge and lots of interesting options!

I've been following this restaurant since it was in a small location on Elm Street. Their growth and expansion was no surprise since the place is consistent in delivering delicious and flavor exploding dishes every time. The service is courteous and attentive, always making sure that you have enough water in case you order a spicy dish. They have dishes for all palates and taste. If you can tolerate a little heat (it's not too spicy), try the Chiang Mai Noodles. If you have a sweet tooth, try a more traditional dessert like the sticky rice and mango. The spring rolls will not disappoint. Overall, this is a hidden gem of McLean... or maybe not so hidden anymore.

Finally made it and it was as fabulous as we had hoped- perfectly balanced papaya salad- fresh / flavorful / light / tangy - not too sugary. Drunken noodles were light as air, and tofu eggplant delicious! Outdoor patio is MAGICAL!!!!!!! Fantastic service- and they made me a less sweet tequilla cosmo that was excellent!

Food here was okay but I didn't think it was particularly special enough to return. The green curry was bland. The fried tilapia was okay though. The dishes were kind of expensive and parking is hard to find but there is a parking garage next to it.

Stopped by after work for dinner. The vegetable tempura was warm, crispy and flavorful. The tofu soup was good, not too spicy. The eggplant dish was my favorite, tons of spice and good portion. The Thai iced tea was smooth and not too sweet. Plenty of seating and great service!

I was captivated by its authentic ambiance--a subtle blend of traditional decor with antique gallery, very welcoming atmosphere. The staff exuded warmth and friendliness, adding a touch of familiarity to the dining experience. The menu, presented a minor challenge with its regular Thai dishes but abundance of choices. The star, undoubtedly, was the preparation and authenticity of the food. My favorites were - Sumo Gyoza, Hae Kuen, Chiang Mai Noodle, stir fried yellow curry, ka pow krab, drunken noodles and a side of crispy egg noodles. In summary, this gem not only delivered on taste but also offered an authentic ambiance, amiable service from experienced staff, and an impressive showcase of culinary expertise, making this place a noteworthy destination for Thai enthusiast seeking both tradition and innovation.I will definitely recommend it and will return to try more.
