Vegan assortment with some kid of beef dish
Vegan Deluxe Platter. I think they gave us a slimmer plate (same size portions, not complaining!) since we were seated at the bar.

You're doing yourself a disservice if you go to DC without eating Ethiopian, and Chercher is one of the best low key but delicious Ethiopian dinners you can get in the city.We got the sambusas (basically like flakier samosas) to start and the veggies combo plus beef tibs, which they put all on one plate. We scooped it up with fresh, only mildly piquantly sour inerja and everything tasted great - i think my favorites were yellow pea sauce and the whole lentils.Service was fast and casual. And pricing was really reasonable for the amount of food offered.

My family and I enjoyed our family-style meal here during a recent DC trip. Small dining space on the main level, but apparently there is other seating elsewhere in the building including a small outside patio area.We decided to share a large platter along with a plate of samosas to start. The main dish consisted of both their Vegan special along with a beef special tibs. Plenty of injera arrived, which of course does a great job of soaking up the sauces on the plate. So many delicious veggie options (some quite spicy!) and the well seasoned beef made for great bites.Would love the chance to return and explore other options on their menu.

We have had Ethiopian food at different restaurants in and around DC and even outside of the DC area. At the recommendation of a Habesha friend, we tried Cherecher for the first time a week ago! It. Was. Amazing! The food was the best we have ever had.Thank you Uncle Solomon for the recommendation.Thank you Messi and others for the great service.Thank you Chercher for the great food and experience (and thanks for being open in the snow, ice, and cold). Try tibs, veggie plate, and espresso !You're welcome. :-)

This is our first time trying Ethiopian food and I have to give it a solid 10/10! Truly no complaints. Huge portion, amazing flavor profile, and the fact that it comes with unlimited injera is just an add-on bonus. We shared a deluxe vegan combo + steak tips + salmon tips amongst the 4 of us and we have leftover.Ambiance is great for smaller crowd since it's a small place - for the 4 of us, we had to share a small table meant for 2 people but it didn't affect our dining experience since we shared the food family style anyway. Service is good, nothing extraordinary, and our waitress is very sweet so no complaints in that regard! Highly recommend for any Ethiopian food lover or anyone interested in trying new cuisines!

Hands down the best Ethiopian food experience I've ever had. I couldn't get enough! There are slim choices for Ethiopian food where I'm from, the San Francisco Bay Area, but there were plenty of options in Washington DC! Chercher was the spot that I saw people talk about the most online. My friend, who's a local, and I went on a weekday night. It was crowded! The restaurant is a narrow, small space, and they packed in as much table space as possible. We got a regular veggie platter (the regular, special, and deluxe are just different sizes I think) and the Zil Zil tibs (long strips of tender beef, meat, sautéed with onions, garlic, tomato, jalapeño pepper, and exotic herbs). The tibs were SO tender. They were perfectly cooked with a nice char on the outside. The veggie platter came with many items, more than I am normally used to. For some reason I couldn't stop eating. Everything went so well together. And this is saying a lot since I had fufu and egusi for lunch earlier in the day!The service was extremely friendly. They noticed we were running out of injera and refilled it promptly. The next time I'm in DC, I will definitely stop by again!

Always the best service and food! If you go early there is not a wait, but the upstairs is not a bad place to wait. You have to hang at the bar if you are waiting, but they give you water while you wait. Plenty of indoor tables for small or large groups. I would come here with a group so you can try more things, but also okay to take home. I've never done that, but sometimes people do. Must get the platters so you have a little sample of it all. They will also give you more injera while they wait.

Very flavorful and filling. I really wanted the beef tips AND the veggies but as you can imagine it's a lot of food for one person. I also had a glass of white wine but can't remember which one. Everything was good and the service was great. I can't say much about the ambiance as I went midday in the middle of the week but I would return whenever I'm in DC.

My first time trying ethiopian food! It was sooo yummy. Service was friendly and quick! It got really busy once we sat down and because the place wasn't very big there was no way any one else was getting sat down. This was around dinner time on a weekend though. Very chill vibe and food came out pretty fast even when it was busy. The tibbs were amazing. Definitely recommend coming here.

TL;DR: Arguably some of the best Ethiopian food I've tried in DC.It's a small restaurant, and while the exterior may not look fancy, the food does not disappoint. The meat was juicy, the injera was moist -- I have no complaints at all. They also offer Ethiopian beer, which is worth trying.

OVERALL: my favorite Ethiopian restaurant. The venue is small and simple but the food makes up for it. FOOD: we got the beef special tibs and the veggie combo. These are two dishes but brought together on one plate. We got complimentary injera and staff often brings by more. Everything was delicious and we finished the entire thing. This plate was more than enough for 2 people to share. SERVICE: staff was friendly and gave great recommendations. It was a little challenging at first with the language barrier but we made it work!! Excellent service. VENUE: the restaurant is really small and it isn't flashy with decor. But it's cute and feels like a community environment in there. There is also a bar and downstairs area.
