Love their seasonal cold ramen!
The mappo maze is a MUST! Especially if you like mapo tofu...and you like spicy, lol.

It was a COOOOOLD day in DC and I was in need of some warmth in my belly. I was looking for a great place for a big bowl of flavorful ramen. I caught a break when one of the bartenders at The St. Regis hotel bar gave me a tip for Chaplin's. So, off I went for a visit.Arrived around 6pm and conveniently got here during happy hour. Happy hour was great! It was roughly 7 bucks for a delicious cocktail. The fun thing about this place are they have a set of cocktails available via draft. Love it, such a great concept and it didn't diminish the favor or strength of the drinks. I got the cure, the vagabond, and the woman of Paris. All great in their own way and I feel like I drank them in the perfect order:The cure was delicious, fruity and refreshing The vagabond was gin based and citrusyAnd the woman of Paris was the perfect strong sipper to end the rest of my nightFor food, I had done some research and already knew I wanted the Tan Tan ramen and when it arrived, I know I got the right choice. It was flavorful, delicious and more importantly. WARM. I got this and added 2 eggs (insane during this egg-flation, but a girl was hungry) and a bunch of pork belly. It was perfect for the lowkey and cozy evening I was hoping for.Perfect visit to Chaplin's! I really enjoyed my ramen and most importantly the drinks. I was visiting DC for a few weeks , so hopefully I can visit again and have another bowl.

2/15/25 Used OpenTable to reserve a table for our Valentine's Day dinner. The waiter was attentive especially after my date inquired about a good rum to drink and suggested the bartender choose. He ordered the Chicken Curry which was PHENOMENAL; brought back memories of the BEST curry I've ever had while visiting Cape Town, South Africa. I wanted to come back here strictly for the Tan Tan Men. This time I ordered it vegetarian w/a stamina egg. It was BLAND! I had to request spices to make it remotely to how I remembered it. My date commented about the decor with the silent movie of Charlie Chaplin and the random bicycles throughout the restaurant. (If reviews were based on one experience, I would give 4 stars.)2/21/25 Ordered UberEats; Chicken Curry which was AWFUL! It's like they had a completely new chef. It was NOT even the same color and it was all in one bowl so it was like soup. There were random cuts of chicken with this black stuff on it, unlike in the restaurant it was pulled chicken. CONSISTENCY in preparation is key. Chaplin's dropped the ball on this.

I loveddddd coming to Chaplin's and can't wait to go back.First of all, happy hour everyday?! Count me in.Second of all, I loved the ambience and decor and call out to Charlie Chaplin. Third, and most importantly, the food and drinks were all delicious. I love the creativity of the menu and performative aspect of certain dishes - from freshly burnt rosemary (burned at the table) for "The Cure" cocktail (which was delicious) to the Pay Day injected dumplings (for the whiskey lovers out there). It's clear that each item on the menu, with the unique ingredients and names, has been thoughtfully curated. Highly recommend if you're looking for some solid ramen and Japanese cuisine. Everything we ordered was delicious. To top it all off our server was extremely kind and conversational and happy to answer the myriad of questions we had!

Chaplin's has been my favorite spot for Ramen for quite some time. I love the simplistic decor and dark ambiance; makes the experience feel relaxed and like a lowkey endeavor (right up my alley). I typically get the Chaplin A.S.S. (Phenomenal) but I decided to venture off on this visit. Per the recommendation of my waiter, I ordered the Mappo Maze...and MAN, was this good. I thought the reduced broth would decrease its appeal, but it was just enough. The flavors packed in this bowl were high and extremely balanced. The ground pork was delicious and the tofu tasted like it was soaked in a marinade beforehand. I decided to add corn and bok choy because I just have to have them in any ramen bowl. Also included was the obligatory spice bomb (Chaplin's has the best/spiciest I've tried. 10/10) and a Sapporo on the side . With that said: I may have a new favorite dish at Chaplin's. Can't wait to go back!

Obsessed with the bottomless brunch here (bottomless veuve!!) Service was amazing (bottomless brunch was certainly BOTTOMLESS), great playlist, cute 1920s decor & an overall party vibe. Everything we ordered was AMAZING especially loved the Chaplin A.S.S ramen & pork gyoza!! Chicken katsu had a fun sauce, Chaplin buns (bao buns) were solid & Chaplin ramen was also very tasty! Our waiter was so good too! He never let our glasses get empty!

We had so much fun here for a Saturday date night! The ramen was absolutely delicious. They have food cocktails and wine. I love restaurants that give you a bottle of water on your table to refill your glass and this place has just that! Our waitress was very kind. All of the staff was fast and friendly. We tried the beef gyoza steamed, and two ramen bowls - the tan tan and the A.S.S. We loved them both!! Would 100% come back here and recommend.

I hate to give Chaplin's this low of a score. I love this place, always fun and normally great service and pretty good ramen. It is my second favorite place for ramen in the city and I have so many good memories here!We came in for HH and I legitimately got sick from 1/4 of a drink there. I am glad that I had a friend with me and could drink water to be better. Their tea that their bar manager made with the brown sugar that they used for their hot drink saved me and was the redeeming choice from the bar.The vegetable gyoza are so good and I liked how they had options to have either pan friend or deep fried. The menu was clearly labeled for dietary restrictions and I love that.Honestly the service was beyond unacceptable. The bartenders were openly drinking with the servers and we felt that all of the staff was drunk. In the few hours we were there they had at least four heavy double shots that everyone took, including who we thought to be the GM or some management. I love this place and want them to succeed, but the glassy eyes, slurring words, and inability for the staff to handle orders or properly ring in receipts makes me question if we will come back again anytime soon. We get bar culture, but being openly drunk before 7pm on a Saturday evening when you are pretty booked is pretty off putting.

Service is nice and atmosphere is cool and more upscale than a traditional ramen bar. They also have happy hour until 7, even on Saturday when we went which is a good deal. Disclaimer: we didn't order ramen so I can't comment on that but did order shumai, wontons, karaage, chicken katsu, wakame salad, chicken katsu curry, and paydays. Just don't get the paydays, they seem like a fun novelties but you really don't want to be tasting liquor while eating a dumpling. Chicken katsu and karaage were good. Otherwise everything else was mid

Very cute ramen place with lots of seating. It's a bit loud and low lighting, so if you are wanting to have a conversation with a group you really need to kind of yell. Service was good if a bit slow, but that might just be the culture of the place to allow you time and more relaxed. We weren't in a rush so didn't mind. The vegetarian tan tan men was good, not great. Noodles were tasty and abundant. Broth was flavorful if not very unique. Veggies were ok, didn't feel very intentional. Some chopped cabbage, carrot, green onion. The seaweed in it was great and went a long way for me. Veggie fried wontons were good! Super crispy. The filling was on the sweeter side. I would try something else next time.

Came here for HH on 11/15/24, it was just ok. Sat at the bar and was waited on immediately. My rating is for the food not the service. Pork and shrimp gyoza - 5/10 decent but the sauce they were paired with was a little too bitter to me. Nothing to write home about but the pork was better than the shrimp to me. Pork buta - 5/10 - very chewy and dryCrab wontons - 5/10 filling seemed to be mostly cheese Drink - the kid - 5/10 - it was strong but it wasn't tasty if that makes sense. The place also serves ramen but I wasn't in the mood for it. Might be better for that alone if it's the speciality. Otherwise I couldn't see myself coming back here.
