I ordered 3 tacos but somehow ended up with 4 (not complaining!) really delicious and plenty of cilantro, lime and onions! It is a bit pricey in my opinion for a taco but a decent splurge once in awhile when you're really hungry doesn't bother me. My colleague also got the quesadilla and really enjoyed it. Would like to visit in person one day just to actually take a peak at the restaurant but I'm assuming it's pretty casual."

Our favorite item from here are the birria tacos. The meat was really flavorful and the consume was great. I ordered without cheese because dairy upsets my stomach but I'm sure it would taste even better with cheese! We also tried the California burrito, Mexicuban Torta, and carne asada burrito. All were great and we would definitely order from here again. We also ordered the cookies and chocolate cake from the bakery and they were delicious."

John T. "3.5To the surprise of no one, this review is of the old location. This new spot with ample outside seating and spacious interiors... I don't know her. I came to CR when you had to work for your eating experience. Despite the struggle, it still worked out. Sorta.I was doing double duty: I was meeting up with some old friends and getting a vibe check of Takoma Park. Well, thanks to me underestimating the time it too to get from Foggy Bottom to Takoma Park (or maybe I just had a *really* bad rideshare driver), I didn't get as much exploratory time as I wanted in Maryland. No worries, that just means I get more time to eat and hang out with my friends, right? Wrong. This was the old location. Outside seating was scarce and people hung out like they were at home, not at a restaurant. Even though my 'you move now'-fu is legendary, the outside didn't turn over for over an hour. We should have left but by then we had given so much time to waiting it seemed fruitless to leave. It didn't help matters that I spied a vacant 4-top 20 minutes before we were seated. Not that it matters anymore but outside seating was a bit of a chore. I know shabby chic-esque seating is cute and all but it's not very functional. None of my party is/was of the portly variety and we still had some troubles navigating chairs and tables.Seated, annoyed and hangry we got to the important stuff: drinking. Look, if I didn't get a libation in me (after all of the above), it was not going to end well for anyone. I started off with a house margarita (no salt). Satisfied that CR could nail the basic, I took it up a notch with my next order: the paloma margarita (no salt). The added grapefruit to the lime, agave and tequila mix hit the spot and was my drink of choice for the rest of the evening. We started with the trio of salsas. To pair it down to basics, it was a red, green, black variety. The 'black' (charred habanero) was my favorite. The heat and smoke balanced nicely with the spice and overall flavor. The salsa had depth. Layers. The chips that came with with house-made, crispy with a slight chew (my preference) and lightly salted. Delicious. I was starting to de-Hulk. Continuing my flavor journey, I chose the chicken tinga enchiladas for my main. I didn't think it was a big ask but my food came out well after my friends' meals. Yep, it was time for a little 'Hulk smash.' My buddies were halfway through their plates when mine came out. No apology. No drink on the house. Just 'here.' If the dinner hadn't been a reunion of sorts, my response would have been *much* different. Thankfully, the food was delicious. The three enchiladas came with different moles: poblano, pipian (for more pumpkin flavor) and cacahuate (peanut). The moles were distinct and lent themselves admirably to the tinga. All enchiladas were topped with queso fresco and served with garlic rice and pinto beans.I understand why Cielo Rojo is popular -- especially with locals. I'm happy to read that it has a new location with a much larger (and needed) footprint. My food & drink were pleasurable but getting there took more effort than it should have (especially given that I am paying for it all; this ain't food truck pricing). I almost matched the red sky with the Red Hulk and that's too bad. YMMV."

It's my favorite pupuseria in the area, that's saying something. Most recently, I got 2 pupusas with rice and beans, and a side of plantains and sour cream. The pupusas are delicious, filled with cheesy bean-y goodness, and delicious slaw. It was so tasty and filling. The plantains were also delicious, I like that they are little thinner so the texture doesn't get too soft and mushy. This is a small restaurant but let's be honest, you're here for the decor, you're here for good food and service. The servers are so nice. If you're not into pupusas, the tamales and burritos are also good!"

Neil W. "Stopped in on a hot evening out in old town Alexandria - the air conditioning was kinder than any welcome wait staff could have given us. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end.All menu items are in the upper $10s, I know inflation has been hard but a single enchilada is not worth $18. Gotta pay the rent somehow I suppose, may as well charge the tourists.Reggaeton was playing extremely loudly and it was difficult to hear, even though we were rather far from the bar area.Either my taste buds were broken this night or the food was truly nondescript, but I couldn't tell the difference between the salsas, or between the al pastor, carnitas, and the beef. The cheese under the black beans was a great touch though, but nothing standout. After the waitress brought the check, she didn't come back for it. My partner used the restroom and after they were done, the waitress still hadn't shown up, so I had to go up and bring the bill directly to her.All in all, feels like a tourist trap, won't be back anytime soon. There's a niche this place fills, and it ain't for me."
