Donald P. "It's been years since I came here, since I no longer live in that area anymore, but we had the opportunity to come here and boy am I glad I did. While a little more on the pricey side, the food was delicious and portions were generous. In general, I've noticed lots of places charge regular price, but noticeably smaller portions than before COVID. I didn't get that feeling here. I ordered the Thali platter ($28). My son wasn't convinced the Thali ($10) on the kids menu was going to be enough, so we ordered the regular version of Butter Chicken ($20) which was much too much for him. Overall, I was very happy with the experience. Will try to come back next opportunity I have."

Brooke Y. "From the outside, one would think Bombay Club would be a typical modestly adorned DC lunch spot - a place for serviceable Indian food to go. But step inside and you're introduced to a more luxurious experience, complete matching white glove service (and an unusual age restriction that prevents young children attending). I recently dined with two colleagues, one an Indian food aficionado who hails from Delhi. You will notice a multicultural clientele. Get over the "eat only where the locals eat" mentality and dig into some seriously genuine cuisine. First timers, or simply those looking for great variety, should consider a Thali - a classic assortment of different Indian foods. I got the Classic Thali on a recent visit, which features chicken and lamb. It did not disappoint. This might be my bloated American dietary bias, but I felt that portions were on the modest side. Otherwise, this was a great meal."

Tom C. "Some notes just for my memory:Garlic Shrimp: I asked for them to be "easy on the garlic" since they were for the kiddo (7 year old). He loved them. Unfortunately there were only six little shrimps.Dal Tadka: I asked for no red peppers because this was for the kiddo too. He loved it and ate a ton. I think this came with some plain rice flavored with cumin.Jeera Rice: Asked this to be extra mild for the Kiddo and he still said it was too spicy for him. I think he was just psyched out by the yellow color. I thought it was zero spicy and I liked it :)Mango Lassi: Tasty! Not too sweet. Very thick. Kiddo loved it.Mixed Biryani: Wife got it and thought it was too a bit too salty. I ate some and thought it was on the edge but still good. If we'd grabbed some raita or something to go with this it would have been perfect. The bits of meat I had were tasty and tender. Kiddo ate some of the shrimp and salmon chunks from this and liked it. This was "mild" spicy according to their menu and much spicier than the Jeera rice ... which he had said was too hot for him hahaha. He's such an unreliable narrator.Samosa Chaat: this was pretty good and a nice portion for $7. It would be better to eat there since the crispy bits on top were soft by the time I got it home. Next time!Overall I think this could be a solid spot. I see they do Indian pizza! Ever since I moved away from Sunnyvale I've been on the lookout for a place that does good Indian pizza. I'll def be trying this place again."

On a Monday lunch I got the Onion Masala Dosa - crispy and soft in all the right ways, the masala was flavorful and the dosa was served with two tangy chutneys and sambar. I tried a friend's Vada Curry dosa and was honestly blown away - it was my first time trying this unique specialty and the flavor was unlike any South Indian dish I had tried thus far! Would probably get this next time. Service was fast, ambiance was standard, and it seemed like the lunch buffet (which includes dosa brought to you directly) was a great deal. No comment on ambiance or service, very little interaction. The flavors were nice, but the meat was dry and a bit lacking. Drenched in the sauce which is great for dipping the naan, but at their prices, I expected a bit more meat. The food was picked at before I could snap the pic, but still. Just seems like something I could make at home with jar sauces... the sauces won't be as good, but I'm sure my meat wouldn't be so dry. Still a pretty decent meal, solid 3 stars."

We had a 1230 reservation and there were no other customers there when we got there. Seemed pretty odd for a Saturday brunch but then again it's the holiday season, it was freezing outside and many people may not even know the spot exists. The food was good and the service was great. After about an hour and a half a few more people started rolling in, but in total there was still maybe 10 customers including us. The staff was very attentive and the food was very flavorful. Our least favorite items on the menu were the potato balls that looked like meatballs and the French toast. I probably should've known better than to order French toast, but I love French toast. But unfortunately they didn't get it right. But everything else was solid. If the service wasn't as good, I probably would've given them three stars, but I really enjoyed my time here. Everything looked so good, that I decided to try their Triple Combo Platter...which gives you a choice to choose from 3 Entree Items and 2 Sides from the Buffet. So I dived in to sample some of everything. I ordered: Butter Chicken, Tandoori Chicken, Ground Lamb Malabari w/ Chick Peas, Cucumber Salad & Samosa!....as my entree and sides. The food was hot and tasted fresh.Everything was delicious and the food did not disappoint. A standout entree for me was the Butter Chicken. It had the right amount of spice and flavor. My order was completed fast and in no time or wait. The portions were more than enough to share as well. This I know, because by the time I got back at work, I severely needed a nap from all my Indian cuisine goodness that I received. Only a one star deduction for the tandoori chicken. It was a bit dry for my taste and was all white meat....which I am not a fan of and can't stand. lolIn all, a great experience as a first timer, delicious food and friendly counter-customer service. This will become my go to, fast casual Indian Cuisine spot for sure when needing something healthy and quick for lunch or dinner while in the Ballston neighborhood.*Elite Tip: Happy to report they offer online ordering for pick up and/or delivery as well."

When we walked in and obviously looked a little lost, the person behind the register asked "Are you here for Indian food?" Indeed, we were :) We got some samosas, chicken tikka masala, samosa burrito, and some pain puri. All the food is made to order, so we passed the time by playing some (free) video games in the back corner (the only free chairs there, the other little corner with chairs was taken). Like others have said, it's definitely a to-go place (or an eat-in-the-car place).I thought the food was delicious - especially the pain puri! The space there was small, and this one is newly updated and spacious, with beautiful decor. It feels like a better place for a romantic or more upscale dining experience! Fancy location in an office building for business meetings, too?Anyhow, why go here? Because it's chock full of all the most delicious items of Indian fare that you crave. They have dosai, curries, street snacks like iddly and puri and chaat, uthappam, and special rice dishes. The cool part about this restaurant is that all of the food is vegetarian. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and can help you figure out the food restrictions in the menu items. I love all the food, but I always veer towards one dish in particular for my appetizer: the palak chaat. It is delightful with the crunch of the deep fried spinach and the tang of the tamarind, onions and fresh tomatoes on top. It really is a fancy version of this dish here at Woodlands. I love it!The entree I always order is the aloo gobi with beautiful pieces of spiced cauliflower and potatoes, or the vegetable jalfrezi with the wonderful spicy tomato based sauce on the veggies. Their rice is always fluffy and perfect for accompanying the rich curry dishes. The service is excellent, as they check on you regularly, and again, very knowledgeable. The food comes out very quickly, which is great for hungry bellies. There are so many dishes here, and I really need to gravitate away from my staples, but it's hard when you love some dishes to try others!Parking is easy, but the location is a little confusing near an intersection but in the ground floor of an office building."

Art P. "To preface this review, this is largely a comparison to reference locations for take out, so especially in the COVID Era, please keep this in mind.Shiney, Shiney, Shiney...whether intentional or not, your name reflects how you outshine the competition.Long ago, on a hunt for Gulab Juman, I stumbled across the humble Shiney's, and it quickly became my go to whenever the urge arose. Little did I know until today, that it's not only their sweets that shine!Having cravings for Butter Chicken in recent days, I first looked to order from my local go to, IndaRoma. Nothing against IndaRoma as they are a quality place, but their prices have gone sky high...some of which even exceed the uber upscale Rasika in DC. I then looked around for other sources in the Annandale/Falls Church/Springfield area and while better priced, they were unknowns and few had an "edible" star rating. So, mixed in to my search results on Yelp is that oh so familiar name, Shiney's Sweets. Running through my list while reviewing the menu:Number of options available? Check!Pricing reasonable? Check!Star rating of 4 stars or above? Check!Butter Chicken available? Check!Gulab Juman available? Check! After reviewing, it was a no brainer, Shiney would get a chance to shine again.I placed my order including Vegetable Samosas, Butter Chicken, Gulab Juman and some drinks. All totalling less than the price of one order of Butter Chicken alone from my first choice. This accomplishment alone was a win...until I opened my to go bag. When I opened the bag to prepare my dinner, the rich and aromatic scent of the Butter Chicken filled the room. Oh, how I have missed that wonderful smell during the long lockdowns! --- I know that probably sounds crazy, but it had been a long time! --- I lifted out the satisfying slightly oily bag of samosas, and underneath, wrapped in aluminum foil are not one, but two naan (bread)...hot and fresh. At the previously mentioned place, naan is not even included with Butter Chicken and it is never hot and fresh...it is reheated when ordered. Alongside the naan is a standard container filled with fresh basmati rice to accompany the Butter Chicken dish. Then, at the bottom, the piece de resistance: a hefty and hot container filled to the rim with Butter Chicken.Of note, unlike some other places, there was no puddle of juices or oils in the bag...this was done right. No drippy mess or potential for stained clothes.Carefully popping the lid off of the high quality plastic container, the glorious aroma was fully released. In contrast with the aforementioned place, this is a healthy serving...enough for two. Mixed in with the amber/crimson color sauce, there is an abundance of large (but not too large) chunks of thoroughly cooked chicken. Not under or overcooked, not too big or small, not too hot or cold, just right...like Goldilocks would like it!Sprinkling the rice onto a plate, pouring Butter Chicken on top, then pulling pieces of naan to accompany each bite...each mouthful was like hearing angels sing! Sweet, hot, buttery perfection! Now, admittedly, my cravings made this meal go far too quickly, but I'm not exaggerating on the quality of this dish. There is still enough left over for a second meal...and I didn't go broke paying for it.The samosas are set aside for tomorrow, but, they have always been on par with other Indian establishments that prepare their own. The same with the Gulab Juman...which I'm now reminded at this point that I have sitting next to me ready to eat!*** cue Cookie Monster gorging on cookies meme here ***I hope you appreciated the review, and perspective. No, I'm not really going to eat Gulab Juman like the Cookie Monster, but I will have that same, satisfying smile on my face afterwards...crumbs all over the place or not!"
