"I came In here today to buy some halal meat cuz I heard the meat here is excellent and fresh, It was very fast neat service. The store is mostly sells imdian_pakistani herbs and seasoning. You most likely to find all the Masala you're looking for if you come here."
"A lovely local grocery store with everything one could want from fresh produce, frozen food, sandwiches to order, wine, coffee, yummy pastries, various selection of snacks, desserts, and so much more.We were so pleased to find this gem with high quality natural food with excellent service by owners who care about the community. You should absolutely visit and enjoy just like we did every day of our stay in the local area. The concept of a local Modern Mom and Pop grocery store is unique and every community should be so lucky!"
"Stopped by the Potomac Grocer while in the area for an appointment today. Surprisingly of all the food spots in the area, this was one of the highest Yelp ratings. Looking at the reviews, I saw that the place offered take-home meals as well as a deli. Apparently people loved the chipotle chicken salad sandwich, so I decided that was going to be the thing to try.I wasn't super blown away, I found the chicken to be a bit dry and bland. But I will say man did they PACK that sandwich with chicken! I mean they did not skimp! I also saw one review that mentioned getting it on a baguette so I did, although personally I found the bread to be a bit hard. BTW the chipotle is SPICY! But I do have a low spice tolerance so take that with a grain of salt. They had another option for the chicken salad which was the tarragon, as well as lots of other deli sandwiches. I was curious to try the soup of the day, potato leek soup, but decided not to get it. They had a variety of packaged soups and salads along the refrigerator. It seemed like a pretty popular place on a Sunday afternoon, so while I didn't love the chicken salad sandwich personally, maybe they have some other yummy options."
"I recently moved right by this market and had made a mental note of "oh, I could probably go there to get beer," but hadn't actually stopped in until today. Since we are snowed in, I got it in my head that I wanted to bake some King Cakes, and also wanted to make some easy cornbread to go with chili tonight--and maybe veggies for omelettes tomorrow. This place is amazing! My list was VERY random--bread flour, yeast, powdered sugar, sour cream, lemon, red bell pepper, onion, jalapeño, cornbread mix and beer (duh, it's snowing). They had all of it. I'm seriously floored that a corner store has all that. And all of that (including the Flying Dog beer) was only $28, which I think is quite comparable to what it would have been at Giant or Safeway. The owners were friendly, and he even threw in the jalapeño for free since it looked like it was on its way out. Great addition to the neighborhood with a really good selection. They also sell fresh bread and have a nice little wine and beer selection. If you're in the neighborhood, go check them out."
"Superior location. The Banh Mi sandwhich is great! Actually, everything is great! This place isn't snooty, it's just high class. Anyone complaining is used to dealing with minimum wage employees who don't care about the well-being of the venue. The owners here care, and want to ensure the best for everyone. Also, it's easy to find now unlike in the past, GPS and Google maps will take you right to it.. 3068 Mt Pleasant St. NanaDC watches is next door too."
"It's pretty wacky that I could feel such strong feelings for a liquor store. It totally blind sided me, to be honest. After a trek through DC one early evening, I was looking to get my booze on. Living in Virginia, I'm not used to liquor stores looking nice and inviting. I have to deal with awful state-run stores and awful taxes. Walking around AdMo, I just so happened to stop into Virginia Market. I couldn't believe how clean and bright and inviting it was. It was not the first DC liquor store I went to, so I know that's not how all of them are. I couldn't believe that the liquor wasn't behind some counter and that everything was clearly labeled! What was this place?! There was great selection also... Not just of the alcohol, but also of the snack foods. (I liked that there was a freezer chest full of ice cream in the front.) They had a pretty good stock of Asian alcohol, too. However, I was specifically craving shochu, which they didn't carry. They did have soju though, so it was still ok! The owners both seemed really sweet. I didn't interact with them much, but I definitely got a vibe that they were good people. It's crazy how attached to this store I became during my brief visit! I don't live in the area, so I don't know when I'll be back, but I know if I were a DC local, I'd make a special trip just to hit up this store."
"Great new neighborhood place for carry out, and for supplemental groceries and produce (though the packaged groceries are very overpriced). Lots of healthy and vegetarian options. Wraps and bowls are substantial and could easily be two meals.Prices are pretty much what you'd expect these days. $13 to $17 for a substantial take out meal that could be shared or turned into 2 meals. There are a couple of small tables inside and several more outside.Recommended!"
"Sara's Market was recently taken over by the fine folks who run Dent Place Market over in G'town West Village. Much like Dent Place Market, Sara's sells high quality local products, and pantry staples, along with the best fresh made sandwiches, coffee, and pasta salads. They also offer dry cleaning, and a wide selection of wines and beers. The owners are incredibly kind and friendly, and are 100% committed to making their two markets neighborhood staples."
"Great place. I always come here for meat because they are fast and you literally come in and leave pretty fast. The parking is very big and there are 2 other store ajoint to this store one which is indianThey sell halal meat and middle east/african food poultery and frozen fish. This place totally worth it."
"My new favorite neighborhood mart. The produce section here is on point - quality, variety, and priced very right. We got three ripe mangoes for $2, 1 lb of serranos for $2, and three giant green peppers for $2. The spice section was also particularly well stocked, with options that you can't find at any of the nearby stores. The store itself is immaculately clean and tidy, and appears to be family owned. Will definitely be back when I need corn tortillas, a mangonada fix, jalapeños, or a cold Jarritos."
"This is my go to sushi place in Bethesda. Tucked inside a small Japanese grocery store is a sushi counter which sells a variety of fresh sushi and sashimi dishes as well as sushi grade fish by weight which you can take home to prepare your own feast. The best deal is probably the daily special which offers a selection of different nigiri. Make sure you call ahead to place your order the day before because quantities are limited and I've often walked out empty handed in disappointment hoping for better luck/planning next time. Take out only, there is no in store seating. The Japanese grocery shop itself is lovely with a variety of packaged dried goods and snacks. There's also a small selection of local Japanese fresh vegetables, some frozen prepared foods and refrigerated pickles, as well as some baked goods. There's a small section near the front of the store where expired or almost expired foods are on clearance for cheap (read the labels and use your own judgement). The family who owns the shop is very friendly and welcoming. Remember to bring your own bag to avoid the bag fee, and there is a small fee for using credit cards for purchases less than $10. Overall extremely happy to have this shop in my neighborhood."
"Little gem in Falls Church with fresh options for brunch. Enjoyed the platter, especially the red pepper spread and the menemen (Turkish egg dish)."

I've been getting meat from this Halal shop since 2010. They cut the meat the way that you ask and it's always done correctly. While the store may be a little cluttered, don't let that stop you. The brother's there follow Qur'an and Sunnah and it's a very busy shop! If your looking for quality halal meat and real butcher's. The brother's cutting the meat know what their doing and they cut off all the fat upon request. It's ALWAYS busy during the month of Ramadan. Alhumdudilah. Don't worry about the negativity. If you want pretty...go to Costco. It's not dirty, it's not perfect...but the meat is good.

Was randomly walking by and decided to pop in and check it out. I couldn't believe how cute it was inside! They do fun events on the weekend evenings in their private event space downstairs--like arts & crafts, stand up comedy, and more. The owner is a veteran and was super friendly. I got an iced vanilla latte and a Sausage egg and cheese on an everything bagel and he made both to order. While I waited, I noticed they have a suggestion box too and the owner mentioned a lot of the things they have in the store now came from customer suggestions. Such a cool spot!

Love this place. Always great! Been coming here for 10 years. Max really knows his Seafood . Their pre-made Entrees are fabulous. Chicken Parmigiana., Crab cakes, Meat Loaf and Citrus Salmon. Potato fingerlings, Potato Salad, Coke slaw. Can't go wrong for a good Sunday Dinner. Great employees. I am spoiled. Went by Organic Butcher in McLean and walked out. Terrible service there.

What a cute little store! Came here when I was visiting family in DC, and thought this is the cutest little store. I was not sure if they will have any children thing and they do! I needed to get children ibuprofen and some ingredients I'm missing to make cookies. I didn't expect to find them all here. The staff are so sweet and kind as well. They even gave my kid a free cookie. Will definite come back. Oh and it's pet friendly!! Highly recommended!

I literally stumbled upon this place, and I had to check it out just because of its name. When I waslked inside, that instinctive small market smell hit me immediately. This small market is the most unique market that I have ever been in, within the city. Ibthink the last time that I was in a place similar to this waswhen I was in the Shenandoah back countrybof Viriginia. There sat the entire family including the elderly grandmother who were all part of the family ownership. This place wasn't exactly like that, but it was close to it, right down to the old wooden floors. Most of the products that they have come from various farms, even as far as Pensylvania I was told. I wasn't completely hungry just yet but I thought that I would pick-up a sandwich for later. Since their sandwiches are all made to order, I decided on the aFoggy Bottom sandwich. It included sliced serrano, brie, and argula served on a toasted baguette. Everything about this place is awesome!

This is by far my favorite place to pick up a six pack in the area. When I moved here form Portland, OR I was a little worried about the ability to find good craft beer in DC but my fears were put to rest when I found this place. Not only do they have a wonderful selection of craft beers (and almost nothing from the big bad beer guys) but the lady who runs the place will go out of her way to get anything you ask for. I absolutely love that I can go in there, ask for my favorite beers, and she'll have them in a week or two. What kind of store does that? I Love this place. Go try some fancy beer if you haven't already. I'd recommend the 22's of Green Flash Imperial IPA if you're really looking for a good time. Or a six pack of Hop Ottin' IPA will do.. Keep it up guys - You're the best!

Actually had to ask the name of the place initially because the natural light comes in so nicely through the windows and the decal is a light color, but the large coffee flag out front drew me in. Got a great coffee, and the menu has Ethiopian snacks (the sambusa with the sauce that the man told me he "just put together" was amazing)! It's also a small grocery store with some hard-to-find items. Really reads as a neighborhood place too, as the man working the counter seemed to recognize, greet, and converse with several people who came in.

This is as neighborhood-small business as it gets. I specifically came to try the market's small deli in the back. They keep the menu small, but everything sounds amazing. I got one of the freshly made paninis - the Prosciutto Mozzarella Arugula Tomato and Pesto. While waiting for the order, I walked around the shop, a great option for shopping for a party or night-in or grabbing snack. The wine collection is small, but diverse. Big plus for a lot of Asian brands, too. The warm panini made it the 20-minute walk home warm and still fresh. The ingredients complimented each other well - think the strong flavor of the sun-dried tomato with the mozzarella and prosciutto. Really great option for lunch if you are in Georgetown and want to try something off M St. or Wisconsin!

"Half deli, half convenience mart. Friendly service but the food was disappointing. Two steak tacos with some shredded cheese sprinkled into small, plush flour tortillas before wrapping, average meat quality with light seasoning. Basic rice, kidney beans, salad mix with diced tomatoes, dollop of sour cream and optional canned jalapenos. Simple drink options, props for having canned coconut juice. Some table and counter seating, and a few benches nearby outside."
"It makes me feel really sad that people harass the Korean-dad-type guy who works here. Glover Park Mart is where you go for Lotto tickets, beer and wine in this neighborhood. They are very helpful here. One night I was was pestering them about where a particular beer might be located, and they came and helped my find it. At most convenient stores, I am just grunted at. This place is so tiny inside and easy to miss. It's not on the main Wisconsin Ave. drag, but behind it on 37th Street. It's the epitome of a neighborhood corner store. You'll come to depend on it a bit if you decide to move to Glover Park."
"Ive been coming for over 10 years now. Pizza and subs are good. I love their egg salad and italian subs. Great place to buy speciality food/gourmet items from Italy. A bummer the Bombolini doesn't taste the same, it used to taste so good and they even won an award for it some years ago. Please bring it back like it used to be! LolThis is pretty much a carry out. It gets busy during the afternoon. No where to sit but outside and limited bar seats inside to the front of store only.Customer service has changed greatly, not to say it's bad but it definitely feels more rushed and more stressed than it used to be."
"Great place to get Pakistani groceries and halal meat. Really glad I found it."
"Cool points instantly rewarded for being off the beaten path (aka, in the hood). More cool points given for being located inside a rando convenience store -- people eat that shit up! And some additional cool points sprinkled on for the artistic chalk-board menu and Christmas lights. So Yang Market is cool. A good place to take that person who [annoyingly] thinks they know every hole in the wall in every corner of DC and have seen it all. The food stands alone though, and apart from all the aforementioned highlights, deserves a high star appointment. I will say, I was extremely hesitant. Firstly, subs/sandwiches are not the easiest cuisine for a vegetarian, and most of the time, either there are no choices at all, or the options are really lame. And secondly, when you do fall upon the rare creative and delicious vegetarian sandwich, it's usually with a strong dose of creativity and taking untypical sandwich components to make something as filling and desirable as a mountain of roast beef. Was I going to find this is a convenient store sandwich shop in the Eckington?? Well... not really. There were no vegetarian options on the board, but when we walked in, my bf sweetly asked the one sole worker behind the counter if there were any veggie options or if he could whip something up for me. He happily obliged and said he would create something delicious and meatless for me. And he did!My sandwich had greens, mozzarella, tomato, peppers and pickled vegetables. The pickled veggies really took this sandwich from what would have probably been disappointing (due to the v. standard ingredient mix) to really enjoyable. So I didn't get anything creative or standout, but I found myself doing my happy shoulder-wiggle-yummy-food-dance, so it must have been pretty good. Tasty for sure. I forget what my boyfriend got, but I do remember that he said he really enjoyed it, and he's pretty hard to please with food."
"This place is around the corner from my house so I go here when I need something and am too lazy to be bothered to drive to Giant. As the previous commenter said, this place is small and packed tight, and the stuff (like any Bodega or convenience store) is a little more expensive than at the supermarket, but it's convenience can't be beat. Recently, Mr Yu was robbed at gunpoint, so now there is a buzzer with the security door that he uses to let people in and out, but otherwise things remain the same for the always polite, hardworking Mr Yu. What I really love about this place, is that although it is small, and they obviously can't offer a big selection, they always have at least one of whatever you need. I had a barbeque recently and ran out out charcoal (and plastic knives/spoons). Of course, Mr Yu had one kind of charcoal and one kind of knife/fork/spoon set. Want to bake a cake? He's got one kind of chocolate, and one kind of vanilla? Dog food? one kind wet, one kind dry. No matter how obscure the item, he will always have at least one of it (except for beer, which comes in infinite variety here). Mr. Yu, like all bodega's are the last of a dying breed of mom and pop entrepreneurs. He works hard, and never complains (even about the robber) no matter how bad things get. It's great that we still have independent business like this in Columbia Heights, which add real character to the neighborhood. It's been great coming to this place for the past four years, I hope he's around for many more."
"This little "supermarket" is a fully stocked convenience store plus. They really do have everything you'd be looking for, from any sort of grocery item to duct tape or dog poop bags. These items are all a bit expensive, and this review is primarily for the deli!I LOVE Cap Hill Supermarket's deli counter. The deli meat and cheese is always fresh and they have a huge variety of sandwich options. They are made to order so you can choose one from the dozens listed on the menu, or create your own by choosing a type of bread/bagel, meat, cheese, veggies, and condiments. You can't go wrong.I only stop by when I am craving one of their deli sandwiches, and sometimes leave with a random household or grocery item that I need urgently. Otherwise, due to the prices, I stick to the deli sandwiches. But it is nice to have everything else at arm's reach in case you want to multitask with errands."
"Fantastic little market. I got plenty of bottled water and a chocolate bar. The woman working the counter was the perfect combination of friendly, effective, and efficient."
"4 stars for an excellent local grocery store.I stop in Scheele's Market, located at the intersection of 29th and Dumbarton, probably about once a week to buy something. While my wife and I often go to the CVS down the street out of convenience, we try to stop in to support this mom-and-pop grocery store when we can.Stopping in to Scheele's isn't just about supporting a local shop, but also because the store has several unique offerings. First, the back area includes a little deli shop where they make awesome sandwiches and pretty solid sushi randomly. Next, while the store is rather small with narrow aisles, many of the items in the aisles are either unique (like some tasty halibut snacks) or something you would never see at CVS but rather would at Whole Foods (i.e. organic meats and milk). Finally, this spot offers some fresh produce, which is always great to be able to pick up and enjoy without driving to a bigger store.Overall, Scheele's Market provides a great place for locals to check out. The convenience and fun food selection in the heart of a Georgetown neighborhood is another reason it is great to live here."
"If you live nearby, this is the closest place to grab milk or bread. There are properties valued at 2-3 million dollars nearby so higher prices may not matter to regular customers. The store seemed like an upscale 7-11, minus the slurpees. If you need basic groceries and toiletries, this shop will have what you need. They even have shopping carts, in spite of only having two full aisles."
"Many convenience stores in Washington DC do 90% of their business on Cheetos, lottery tickets, stale pre-packaged donuts, and single-sale booze. This attracts unsavory characters, which attracts bulletproof glass, which doesn't make for a happy shopping experience. Plus, you can't eat too many bags of Cheetos for dinner. That's why I'm so happy to live around the corner from Morazan Grocery, or as we call it, the bodega. The secret: no lottery tickets, no booze. Instead, you can buy: eggsmilk, sour creamorange juice and other juicesdifferent types of bread and rolls canned vegetables and tomato sauce and coconut milk and moreseveral types of pastamany different types of spices CHEAP fresh cilantro, zucchini, broccoli, green peppersyucca, plantains, bananas, sweet corn, potatoesraw meat and seafood cleaning suppliesboxed Jello, pudding, flanice creamsoda pop flour, sugar, bouillon, all your basic staples and much much more! The prices are as good or better than you will get at the Giant down the street, without the 'tude. They also have a counter at the back where you can order take-out food. Everything is clean. The staff is just sometimes a bit grumpy. But there's rarely a line more than one or two people, so you're in and out in a jiffy. If you live in the neighborhood, please stop on by and support this neighborhood gem."
"You know how sometimes you head off to the market for one or two items but, as you roam around, you end up seeing all sorts of tempting things that manage to make their way into your shopping basket? Well, that's exactly what happened today during my trip to Asadur's, a great local Mediterranean market with a wide variety of hard-to-find products, all in one place.Being Greek, it was great to see many of the classic Greek brands on the shelves - Papadopoulos cookies, Misko pasta, Kalas salt, Minerva olive oil, Venizelos coffee, Ion chocolates - the list goes on. There's also a fully stocked section of spices found in traditional Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cooking, with many of the spices that are used sparingly in Greek dishes available in small quantities. I really like this, as I can buy the spices I need fresh, and that makes a big difference in flavor when you're cooking. The cheeses in the cheese case are always fresh and high-quality, including a great kasseri, a sharp kefalograviera, and what I originally went in for: Dodoni feta, the best Greek feta cheese around. Its soft, creamy texture makes it both a great table cheese and an excellent ingredient in dishes like a good home-made spanakopita. Finally, the staff at Asadur's is quite friendly and happy to help you find what you need. Grab a basket and take a slow stroll down Asadur's aisles to pick up some old favorites... or find some new ones!"
"This place is effing bonkers! One time I went in there and I had to climb over 3 people just to get some yuca. It was so busy it seemed everyone was dancing together to squeeze through the aisles. It's small, it's packed, it's lively....and I love it. They carry pretty much anything you would want, including what seemed like rather fresh produce. It may take some searching, but you'll find it. I like it much more than Giant for the reason that Giant is simply mis-managed while this place does everything they can with their available space and constraints. I would reccomend the first time you go here to be during a non-busy hour."
"A fairly small grocery and limited supply store, but if you come here, you already know what you're coming here for. I was specifically coming here to get some rolls and fish cutlets. I can't get enough of them and when I get the cravings, I just go all out and buy a bunch. They only have food available to buy from Friday to Sunday. They have a buffet type offering on Saturday lunch too. Not too much seating, but I cannot think of another Sri Lankan place to visit in the immediate area so this place does supply a niche audience. The parking lot is pretty empty most of the day so I doubt you will have problems finding a spot. The people here are nice and friendly and I have not had any issues."
"Food is really tasty. I tried the veggie empanadas and they are delicious. Staff is friendly. They have a latin market inside too."
"AWESOME local market with a small amount of offerings- but a very good selection.Honestly the main reason for stopping in during our Sunday stroll, was the hot dogs in the window & the sign out front- And I must say... I WISH I WENT BACK FOR ANOTHER! Wooooooooow!!! Best dogs in DC!I will be adding this hot dog to my weekly line up...!!!! Happy to have this neighborhood spot, you'll always have my business. Toasted brioche bun, hot dog cooked perfectly- all the fixin's! (My mouth is watering just writing this!) The customer service was wonderful, very friendly & neighborhood feels! Also got a few other snacks, all were fantastic & locally hand picked for this store.-The PRETZEL TOFFEE RIPPLE, by MT Desert Island--local ice cream...was bomb! Will be back again this week for more 'dogs' + snacks!! So happy to have stumbled on this place today!!!!"
"Such a hidden gem, or maybe it was just hidden to me? Regardless, the vibes are great and so is the coffee. Much better than going to a chain. Love sitting there with the windows open and the warm summer breeze coming in. Great for a slow morning or an afternoon drink."
"El Progreso Market is one of DC's top hispanic grocery store. It's smaller than nearby Bestworld Supermarket, but El Progreso doubles as a beer and wine shop. In addition to food, you can also buy rat traps (Only in NW DC). Located in the heart of downtown Mt Pleasant, El Progreso is very much part of the Mt Pleasant cultural vibe and a good place to stop by!"
"Super cute convenient grocery store that serves a great deal of children after school from St. Peters School and neighboring residents alike. Everyday after school let's out you will have an extremely long line of eager children wanting snacks before hitting up the Marion Park playground across the street. This convenient store is not overpriced, in fact everything is quite reasonable in comparison to your run of the mill grocery store. They provide everything you need, so save your trip to the Giant and walk here if you reside in the area."
"My wife and I ordered from here on UberEata two weeks ago and got the Special Vegetable Combination that came with a fried fish, the Aratekilo Special Tibs with lamb, more injera, and more Ethiopian injera. It is some of the best Ethiopian food we have had and we look forward to eating from here again. The portions were also very large so we had plenty of leftovers."
"Tiny little disorganized shop that has a few things that you might need if you're a shisha smoker, or a middle eastern chef.Find canned goods and pre-made harissa, all the shisha tobacco and accessories you could need, and pakistani staples like frozen paratha. I didn't see any freshly butchered meat there. The prices are very cheap. The guy at the desk is friendly. Beware though - the store isn't very clean, looks disorganized, and haphazard. But totally worth it."
"I have come here a few times now to get some goat meat. They do an excellent job cleaning up the meat and cutting it up into stew sizes. They have a good selection of meat cuts to pick from. But the money is in the trimming of the fat and they do an excellent job at it. They are a tad bit pricier than other stores but they make it up with the good meat quality and cleaning up of the meat."
