I don't usually update reviews, but after finding out some things about how they treat their employees (most aren't paid for their work, the owner is typically taking advantage of foreign nationals), I can't justify anything but a 1 star rating.

Located inside a capsule hostel just off of U Street NW, its selling point is its location. It's around the corner from the U Street Metro station and popular U Street NW with its many restaurants, bars, and stores. The space itself is large. There's no consistent decor or theme. It's really just a few more-bare rooms with random wall hangings, a neon light, and places to sit. The cafe itself offers a full espresso menu. For almost $7, I ordered a medium pumpkin spice latte. It was among the worst I've ever had. It lacked any flavor and tasted more like burnt coffee. It may have been just an off day so I'll go back and try again since I've always heard great things about Brew on U.

This is a quaint little coffee shop. It's more for a grab your food and go experience. There is some seating around, but there's not a lot if you want to come here and do work. Table top areas are limited. There's a few more seats around couches and casual sitting, but even still it's quite loud in there because you'll be seated so close to the register and the kitchen. It was hard for me to sit, and enjoy my coffee and have a conversation with a friend. The place is connected to a hostile so it felt more like a storage place for peoples things than a coffee shop. The coffee and food were decent, but the options weren't very diverse or dynamic . It was mostly just pastries when I arrived. The service was standard. Overall, this place is okay if you need to go in for a quick coffee, but this isn't an artisan coffee experience. If you want to have a coffee date, I would choose somewhere else where you'll be able to enjoy your experience more comfortably

Went here as a reward post-dentist appointment :) didn't disappoint. Their creme brûlée latte was delicious! And the place is so cozy and very U Street. Staff was very friendly (and cute ). It's part hostel I think so when you walk in you initially wonder if you're in the right place but just follow the sign to the left. I would highly recommend and will be going back to try more.

My coworker told me about this coffee spot and I was eager to try. So, I didn't know that it's a hostile which is exciting because I never been in one . But the inside of this little coffee shop (seems to look small on the outside) was great. I forgot the exact flavor latte I purchased but it was delicious. I will definitely be going back to try other things off their menu. My coworker had some empanadas and she said they were tasty. I loved the employees.

Amazing coffee - they use Swing's coffee, which is one of our favorites! We didn't realize it was inside a hostel but that's what makes this coffee shop so unique. The barista was very sweet and the atmosphere is very light and fun!

It's a little spot attached to a hostel in the U Street Corridor, apparently mainly serving their guests staying there. The cappuccino is not the best thing ever, but the barrista is warm and friendly, and that goes a long way. He was nice enough warm my almond croissant for me in the oven. The space is warm, cosy, and understated. The one thing I really was not a fan of is the music: an annoying mass-fab plastic pop that will grate anyone's ear and that ruins the ambience. At least, however, the volume was low so that one can (partially) override that with something else on a headset. Note, this is definitely not a "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" situation: I wager there is no one who would say this is nice music to listen to.
