If you're looking for a quick morning pick me up, Bread Furst is an awesome bakery just a quick walk from the Van Ness metro station. Although this popular bakery can be a bit overwhelming, they have a fun deli vibe with lots of bread and bakery items to choose from making it worth it. They even have a wall full of fun treats such pasta, jam, and olive oils. I wanted to try everything there and I will definitely be back!

Everyone here was so polite and nice, but I found the food to be slightly lacking. To be fair, this place is Bread Furst, and their pastries/bread did shine. In particular, the pain au chocolate was really great. It was buttery and sweet and had a good flake - all elements of a great croissant. But Bread Furst also sold some food in its fridge, and we tried their barley soup (which was way too acidic for me), and their eggplant dip (quite bland in my opinion). I'd come back to try their other breads! They sell some home decor (e.g., dishes) and some specialty goods (e.g., different kinds of salts).

Don't kid yourself about the small-bakery vibe. This is a factory:The persons at the counter lectured me that I would not be able to request a change (to skip the cheese) to a $13.75 sandwich because they make sandwiches ten at a time. But then it got weirder, because they also told me that I would have to wait for a sandwich because they were in the process of making a new batch. When I suggested that they could take cheese out of one of the new sandwiches, they rewound the factory tape to repeat that they don't make changes to sandwiches.Maybe they were rude because they don't like the policy. But I think a small place should be warm and accommodating. This place - not so much.

Bakeries like this remind you that it's best to have bread first in the morning. It's a blessing that this bakery makes baguettes that are sold out by the end of morning rush. But unfortunately for me, I didn't get the memo lol and arrived late afternoon (3pm) to be exact. There were so many sandwiches, bread, desserts, and local owned products to choose from. The atmosphere, itself was lively and staff enjoyed sharing about each product. I ordered a Hazelnut Ganache square. So delicious, and rich in taste. The hazelnut ganache taste reminds me of Nutella and a decadent thick chocolate with a homemade graham cracker base. Chocalate lovers and dark chocolate lovers, will not be disappointed with this dessert. Treat yourself!

Lovely little bakery! Worth the trip and within walking distance from the Van ness metro. I recommend their sandwiches, croissants, cakes, and muffins in particular. They are always changing up their selection-- it's pricy but worth it. The staff are also attentive and helpful.

Went to Bread Furst on a Sunday morning to grab their Canelés, it was suuuper busy so you need to come early before they run out of things! The place smells great and has a lot of delicious baked goods, and perishable goods. For pastries, we got the Canelés, Coconut Custard Pie, and a Croissant, and for sandwiches we got the Jambon Beurre Ham Sandwich. We got the last two Canelés they had out for the morning, they had a crispy exterior with a deliciously soft and sweet interior, definitely one of our favorites! The Coconut Custard had a nice flakey crust, with a tasty coconut custard on the inside. The Croissant was so flakey, so buttery, super delicious! My favorite was the savory Jambon Beurre though, the Parisian baguette had a nice crunch and bite to it, and the salty savory ham in the sandwich made it a fantastic combination.Location is great, not super far from the Van Ness Metro station. The service was good for how busy the place was that morning, they were accommodating to any questions we had! Definitely will be back when I'm in the area for breakfast.

Came here after my roommate recommended it. Stopped by with a friend for some breakfast and coffee. I was unprepared for how many great treats they had! We each got a messy egg breakfast sandwich and coffee. I also tried their seasonal lavender iced tea, which was very tasty. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Ambiance is friendly and there's some seating indoors and outdoors, though limited. They offer amazing pastries and an assortment of dry goods, spreads, pastas, cheese, and more! I felt like the more I looked the more I found. I ended taking a loaf of banana bread home with me and my roommates and I enjoyed every bite throughout the week. Can't wait to go back!

After watching the Somebody Feed Phil episode, I had high expectations. I'm awarding it 3 stars mainly because the service wasn't great, my decaf espresso was overpriced (one shot for $4), and my bacon and scrambled eggs sandwich was just a good bacon and scrambled eggs sandwich with a generous amount of eggs. I also tried a slice of my friend's coconut pastry and it wasn't memorable. I'm not saying that their baked goods aren't of good quality, because they are, but I believe that the place is usually crowded because of its location (busy avenue in a residential neighborhood) and the fact that they seem to be consistent. That being said, feel free to take what I just said with a grain of salt because I'm not a local.

Came here since I really had to use the restroom and my friend needed some food in her system. It's cool that you can see the behind the scenes of bakers baking bread and pastries through a window right by the entrance. The bathroom is gender neutral, and was clean. I loved the artwork inside. My friend got an apple tart and a baguette sandwich (can't remember how it was said on the menu but essentially a ham and cheese). The prices are on the higher end, but I'd say they give a good amount of food to make it worth it. There is also a market place with different Knick knacks food items for convenience -- think tiny Nutella jars for $1.50, gummy candies, homemade hummus containers. Though there was a line, service was fast and we were in and out. I'd love to give it another shot since I treated my friend out but she had to head home right after.

Great bakery (and more!) a short walk from the Van Ness Metro.I got a pain au chocolat, but I felt bad about making a long trip just for one pastry, so I added a lemon poppy seed muffin. Oops.It came out to just shy of $10, but I'd say it's worth it. Both pastries were delicious. The pain au chocolat had a crisp shell and a flaky crumb, with just the right amount of chocolate filling. The muffin was rich and heavily flavored with lemon and icing, teetering on the edge of being too sweet but never quite corssing over. The narrow shop is packed with other items as well, besides pastries and breads, they offer prepared foods, pasta sauces, and other snacks. It all seems to be premium product offerings, with the price to match.Excellent food, but with both the distance cost and money cost, I'm not sure how often I'll be back.
