I have very mixed emotions about Alfreda. On the one hand, the pizza was very good. The crust was crispy and burned just a little - exactly the way I like it. The tomato sauce was robust, sweet and forward. It was a great bite every time. So my review for Alfreda's pizza is very good. However, there were many mis-steps and problems in the restaurant and I just cannot forgive them. One - the restaurant smelled like vomit. There is no other way to describe it. The minute the door opened, I smelled vomit. Maybe it was some of the cheese but I really doubt it. I would have left immediately but - it was really cold outside and, this is a neighborhood place, so I really wanted it to be good - maybe a place I would frequent. But the vomit smell was very strong. My spouse smelled it too.The service was not up to par. They were not verbal or talkative. They would walk away from us in the middle of our conversation. We asked for hot pepper flakes and, later, for cheese, and each time they walked away and NEVER brought these items to our table. But, finally, Alfreda is very expensive for being a casual pizza place. We had 2 pizzas (each 12 inch), personal pizzas as they described them. We shared a Caesar Salad. And we did NOT drink - only water. But our bill came to over $101.00. Yes, that's right, over $101.00. Now, I don't normally balk at price but I thought this was too much. Of course, part of that was the obligatory tip of 20% already included which I do not really like. Here, given that the service was lacking, I was irritated by the automatic 20% tip. But, bottom line, I think $101 for 2 personal pizzas and a salad is simply too much to pay.And did I mention the restaurant smelled like vomit???I cannot recommend Alfreda to my Yelp buddies!

I always take a risk ordering pizza outside NJ/NY/CT. Fortunately I came here on a holiday weekend so the locals were away and there was no line and lots of empty tables. Ordered the plain and white pies and both were delicious with just the right amount of crunch and cheese to sauce ratio. There's an ample selection of alcohol to down the pizzas. There's only strange occurrence as the waiter kept coming to my table to show the food that other people had ordered before delivering it to their tables. Odd.Not odd enough to prohibit a return!

This was a tough one: the pizza was pretty good, but was it worth $29 for a 12" individual pie? Likewise, while I got takeout and everyone was very friendly, I was stunned to find a 20% service charge tacked on to the bill, which they removed as soon as I asked about it. And the $14 Caesar salad was not bad, but definitely not worthy of so much money for a side salad.Regarding the pizza: I ordered the Alfreda with sausage, and it was very good. Neither great nor New Havem caliber, but a solid pizza. Good crust, quality cheese, a bright tomato sauce, and very tasty sausage. But I ask a rhetorical question again: was it worth $29? IMHO no pizza is. The entire takeout meal set me back nearly $48 including tax. The bottom line is that it was ok but I would not repeat as I felt it was overpriced while nothing truly special.

Super cute. Ultra chic. Hospitable staff. Authentic quality pizza and a pretty great wine/beer/liquor selection. Fun and sophisticated vibe. I definitely want to return with a more intimate friend group.

Delicious pizza. Simple straightforward ingredients and execution. Started with a cocktail, which was solid but a touch unbalanced for me (leaned sweet and gin heavy (purity). Got the chopped salad which was a great appetizer, tasted very fresh and bright, a touch overdressed but delicious. Then the pizza. Thin, crisp crust, does not flop at all, good toppings and cheese, very delicious and I left nothing. Will be back to try more

The Dupont Circle brick-lined space exceeded my expectations for charm, but I was surprised it wasn't fuller on a Saturday night. I saw the option to order chickpeas and took it; I always wish that there were more bean-based options at restaurants, and the chickpea dish here was a nice mix of herbs and spice and a needed dose of fiber next to a pizza. I ordered their slightly fancier pizza with oregano and special cheeses, and got some pickled hot peppers on it. This turned out to be a great combination, and the crust worked well for mopping up some chickpeas. The crust wasn't quite as sour as I'd expected; the finely shredded Romano was probably the sharpest flavor in the mix. I was also a bit surprised that there weren't more non-alcoholic beverage options. This was okay by me though as the price for a pie and an appetizer was already high with an included service charge of 20%. Having said that, I would have tipped reasonably well anyway. I don't know that this place will stick in a crowded DC pizza scene, but I wouldn't be unhappy if it did.
