Met a friend here, during Happy Hour.Location is about 1.5 blocks from the DuPont Circle MetroNice Happy hour, compared to the U street locationI had a Sangria and Margarita. Both were tasty, except the Sangria was chock full of fruit. Made it hard to drinkMy friend had a sizzling shrimp & steak fajita. Gahhhhhh, I can still hear it now lol. Looked good, said it was. From 3 to about 430p, the restaurant was playing a mix of Beyonce, 90s Mariah Carey and other early 2000 pop artists, then it switched up to almost MariachiBathrooms are unisex and huge. They look like they used to be full on showers, then they took the showers out and kept everything else lolDecorative space, inviting & personable I would recommend!

The staff are killing it here!!! Absolutely the best! The queso and frozen margs are the only thing I get...not cause I don't like the food, it's because the margs and queso are the best. I can only imagine how the food must taste if I can't get past. The queso and margs. lolThe atmosphere is so fun and vibrant!!! Love this place

On a recent school trip, we brought 16 teenagers for dinner on a Saturday evening. The staff was accommodating and helpful, service was fast, and the food was incredible. Highly recommend for great Mexican food in a fun atmosphere with amazing service!

Don't knock it till you try it! Alero is a lively spot right next to the metro that I always bring my friends to when we're in Dupont.The colorfully decorated Mexican restaurant is just as lively as it looks! It is clean, spacious, and has room for small to large groups.Their Happy Hour is a great deal with most items under $10 dollars each. My friends and I find ourselves always enjoying their margaritas, rolled tacos, quesadillas, and calamari.Service is fast and the wait staff are super friendly and inviting! Some of my favorite memories in the District were at this restaurant and I cannot wait till my next visit to Alero :)

I was really wanting to like the place thinking that the food wood be as good as a mom and pop's Mexican place...we left underwhelmed. We ordered a half pitcher of mango margarita that was watered down, nachos with ground beef that tasted like canned chili meat with canned jalapenos and canned cheese...then the chimichanga with chicken was dry, seemed like it was warmed in the microwave (and we asked it to be extra crispy). Anyways, thought it would be a good spot for that Mexican food craving but we left with a bad taste in our mouth. Off to find the next best Mexican spot in the area.

Rude and inattentive staff, mediocre Mexican food. But...it's in Dupont, where we don't have many other Mexican places. So, if you're craving a burrito and a margarita. (I only feel comfortable saying this after multiple trips and having consistently tipped well and been a good customer, and the experience has always been the same.)

After a day-robbing flight from LAX to IAD, arriving to Dulles at 8 PM, Ubering to our hotel, checking in and getting settled, Mrs. Picante and I considered whether it was worth the trouble to try for a late dinner or just call it a night and enjoy a big breakfast.After a quick consideration that we were hungry, and reaffirming the notion my dad shares every time he goes to Las Vegas: "I'm not here for a haircut," we decided to walk down the street towards a bank of small restaurants to see what was open.We settled on Alero, a smallish Mexican restaurant on Connecticut, and walked in to see we were only one of two parties inside. Our server brought menus and waters, followed by the requisite chips and salsa, while we perused the menu.Alero, like so many other places in DC, is built right into what must be a century-old historic building. Maybe a dozen tables grace the open floor, with various decorations connoting Dia de Los Muertos and Mexican culture. As some of the staff busied themselves with stringing Christmas lights on the ceiling, we ordered up a Nachos to share, a burrito, and a tacos plate.Our server seemed to speak very little English, a concept and didn't grasp until after we had ordered. Consequently, the beans and rice they were supposed to be in my burrito ended up on the side, but nothing worth getting in a twist over. Once we all realized my Spanish was ostensibly better than our server's English, we were fine for the balance of the meal. The food was all very tasty, despite being a little on the smaller-portion side with a price tag reflecting what must be premium Washington Heights rents. All good, but a pretty dinky a la carte burrito for $20 in a walk-in storefront restaurant. Being from LA is tantamount to being spoiled by incredible Mexican food on practically every street corner. This place fought nobly for that level of authenticity, complete with the tres leches dessert we ordered para llevar. Tasted good in the hotel when we got a sweet tooth before bed. We would totally visit here again if we were in the neighborhood.

I've been here multiple times and now and i get amazing service no matter what. The servers are beyond sweet and attentive. The food is amazing, I get the tacos every time. It's super colorful and vibrant inside. Would recommend to anyone, especially those who live in DuPont
