Recently went to 1799 for restaurant week and I was pretty happy with my overall experience (so not sure why there's many average/below average ratings)! I appreciated the fact that they were partaking in restaurant week because I really enjoyed the seafood pasta and strawberry shortcake (A LOT). Though I wish they did include even an option for steak, after all it is a steakhouse. My boyfriend got the prime rib which he could barely finish so we took it home. Service was top notch. We also had the manager swing by to check on us so we were all pretty happy. It's honestly a great date night restaurant or just a place to sit at the bar and have a few drinks.

Ambiance nice service great. Food was COLD. I was not pleased with it. We were credited for our appetizer but top of the line restaurant. Unexceptionable to me.

This was my first time at 1799 and they did not disappoint. The atmosphere was super romantic and classy. Our food was filling and left us satisfied (and with leftovers). Service was on point and we never had to wait too long for drinks or food. The crab cakes paired perfectly with the Brussels and mashed potato side. The seafood fra diavolo had the perfect amount of sauce and the seafood was plenty. Must try.

Overall a good experience at 1799 and not to be confused with 1789. I will just jump into the first part and that the service was great. As usual I forgot the name of the person hosting us as I wait to actually write reviews. My memory is bad with names but great when it comes to food. If you are one to use apps I highly recommend to InKind app that gives you deals and surprisingly a pretty good amount of cash back credit that can be used for restaurants that are associated with InKind. A last bit of info if it is your initial sign up you get a pretty good amount off on your first meal. Ok I will end the plug as some may look at using deals as eeeww and rolling eyes to it. I need to check to see what the happy hour times are because the bar area was packed on this Friday evening when we were there. After squeezing through the bar area we made it to the main dining area and were seated. After looking at the menus we went for some apps and drinks. The drinks were great and there is a special menu you can order off that will only be around until Valentine's Day or as some people know February 14th as the birthday of YouTube twenty years ago. In fact the head mixologist came by the tables to recommend drinks and check on how we were enjoying them since they were new cocktails. For appetizers we went with the braised pork belly and ceviche. I was happy with both, especially the braised pork belly. The kimchi added a nice tang to the pork belly with the sweetness of the glaze. With it being a steakhouse I was going to go for the standard and get a steak but after the hostess told us of some of the current specials the veal oscar caught my ear. I am an adventurous guy but it's like going to a place that specializes in seafood and ordering a steak. Still I was not disappointed. I asked for the veal to be cooked medium rare and to me it was a bit more on the medium side but still ok by me. When it comes to certain food like veal, lamb, or goat, and plenty of others I actually like the gamey flavor and I actually like that unique flavor. The crab meat and béarnaise sauce mixed well overall and it came with onion rings. I highly recommend that they make the onion rings as part of their normal menu instead of a special add on when serving certain limited time meals. I see another visit in the future to really judge the steakhouse part but as a restaurant they meet the qualifications of great service and great food expected for the price you are paying here.

I've been to 1799 twice, once for dinner on their patio and once for brunch inside. Never reviewed my dinner occasion but let's do Brunch! We were instructed by a sign on the main gate to use the bar entrance, bar is small, probably fits 15 people, super small. I wouldn't come just for the bar, too small for my liking. You are led down a hall to the main dining area. It was super empty on a Sunday (1/12) and with a brunch that is super competitive in price you'd think it would have been busy. It wasn't. Parking is a bit of a nightmare, it's Old Town so like most DMV places, use a garage near by or simply try to get street parking. Let's get into it! Waffle Station: Small but the waffle was delicious! The condiments are away from the one waffle maker/area, so kinda cumbersome to maneuver. Crab Legs/Shrimp: Plentiful - Good Omelette: Delicious and Made to Order, they have crab, shrimp, anything you want to add it in! Our favorite! Salad Bar: Small but does the job! No Ranch but I asked and they delivered! Mac and Cheese: Just okay.Fruit: They do not have a fruit station just a few for the waffle and pineapple randomly near the salad area. Beverages: We are Boozy Brunchers but they do not have an all you can drink option. We opted not to enjoy brunch drinks since we knew we'd be drinking all day plus, they didn't have a standard mimosa on the brunch options. Okay so I'm at a solid 3 for 1799, I remember my steak was wonderful for dinner, don't remember the sides, but if I didn't review, I wasn't impressed. Service was lacking. The waitress was hard to find even on a slow day. She had a guaranteed tip so boo for us! Sad Face :( My love had to keep asking for refills, ummmm yes the cup is empty, that means he needs another. And we had to keep flagging her down. My Treat This Time! When paying, I noticed a credit card fee. What in the world? What if I wanted to pay cash? So weird. I wish restaurants would just raise their prices because adding an extra $4-5 dollars to a bill is tacky. Super tacky! So everyone is paying the credit card fee? So when it's said and done, $140 for two people for a non-boozy brunch? We'd likely pass and take our foodie talents to Lamani or Old Faithful Sequoia. Those are the best in DC. (Four Seasons too, it's just more expensive.) Ambiance is normal, I wouldn't consider this fine dining at all. The customer service is lacking and the food isn't leaving a lasting impression. Would I return for dinner, probably not! Too many misses for this Mrs. I came, I tried, I conquered! Xoxo,Nessa

What a cool old building. Walked in and didn't realize how big it was. We were taken to our table right after they checked us in. The story in the front of the menu was very interesting about the family history and how the name came about. The waiter did a nice job. The food was very good. Another place to add to my list for the next time I am in town.

1799 Prime Steak & Seafood delivered on food quality, but a few hiccups with the overall experience kept it from being perfect. The highlight of the meal was the New York Strip, which my friends said was cooked to perfection with a juicy, flavorful char that made it a true standout. The side dishes were equally satisfying--Brussels Sprouts, Sweet Potato Mash, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, and Mac and Cheese were all delicious. The only minor letdown was the Creamed Spinach, which was a bit too salty for our taste. While the food was excellent, the dining experience left something to be desired. We had specifically requested the dining room for a special occasion but were seated in the bar area without prior notice. The bar space was very tight, which made dining feel a bit cramped and less comfortable than we had hoped for such an important evening.Despite these issues, the service was friendly and attentive, and the kitchen clearly knows how to prepare a great meal. If the seating arrangements had matched the quality of the food, this would have been a flawless experience.Still, the food alone makes 1799 Prime a place worth visiting, though I'd recommend confirming your seating preferences beforehand. A solid four stars!

I came back to give this place another try because my friend loved it when she tried it for the first time, a few weeks ago. Well, I'm glad I did. From the initial greeting to the end of meal, it was a great night. The space is still nice and cozy feeling with lovely music playing. Our server was great. Friendly and explained things well and gave us input for a bottle of wine, which we really enjoyed. I got a kale Caesar salad to start. It was good with the perfect amount of dressing and nice parm shavings, My ribeye was cooked perfectly with a nice char. The flavor was great. All steaks come with a side of asparagus but I also ordered the potatoes au gratin which was cheesy with a nice crisp top.I got the special dessert which was a creme brulee. It was just good but no complaints. So now I'm a fan and would definitely return here for a steak again.
