This is my love note to the only Chinese I will order in DC. It's expensive for what it is, but genuinely I won't eat anywhere else because they all pale in comparison. The crispy orange beef is my favorite with their crab rangoons. I always have leftovers. It ends up being about $50-$60 for two people, but you won't find as high quality or consistency anywhere else!

The place is small and actually just starting to have inside dining. In a location with lots of competition. Doesn't look like much but also only 3 tables if you want to eat inside. There is a stick by the door, hmmmmm.. I ordered steam dumplings and Mongolian beef. Let's hope it is good. No fountain drinks, if you want a soda it is in a can.Dumplings are okay, not real taste to the meat. But they are good Oh, the Mongolian beef is the bomb!! Wow!! I have to say some of the best I have had in a long time.

14th St Cafe Asian Bistro is as close to authentic as we've gotten here in DC (and I am from the area). Not only is the food delicious and full of flavor, but the portion sizes are huge! The customer service is great too and they are quick to make any edits if needed once I have ordered. Appetizer use I would highly recommend the crab Rangoon, fried wonton and hot and sour soup! The crab Rangoon reminds me of that old school Chinese carry out growing up that kept it simple and delicious. It wasn't the fancy crab Rangoon a lot of places are doing now. In terms of entrees, Hunan Chicken, Mongolian beef, General Tso and Seafood Lo Mein have been a hit! The Seafood Lo Mein actually had a decent amount of seafood (more than one shrimp and one scallop)!! The General Tso was not dried and overcooked like so many places are prone to cooking! My only gripe is that the food is SPICY! Mind you, I don't mind but if I plan to share with my small kiddos I can't! So keep that in mind and ask them to adjust the spice level if needed! This is our new go to Chinese take out, hands down!

We ordered Sour Vegetable Fish Soup, Stir Fry Bok Choy, and Green Pepper Chicken (rice is complimentary) for three people and we were stuffed to the brim. Note there are not many space or tables around (only 3) to dine in at the restaurant. Hence we did take out instead. Great substitute for Szechuan Great Wall which unfortunately closed down a few weeks ago. This is the closest that one can come to authentic chinese food in the district. Would love to try other dishes in the future.

Wow! Just wow. This is the freshest Chinese food that I have EVER received from a "carry out" place. The inside is still closed from what looks like covid restrictions so I had to make the order and then wait outside. The woman that took the order told us that it would be 15 minutes which was fine. From that I should've known that the food was going to be really fresh. When I stepped back in, she was in the kitchen, helping out the chef and then saw me standing outside and knocked on the window for me to come in get the food. Now the food oh my goodness was so delicious I got the general Tso chicken, and it really looked like they cut up chicken breast, breaded them, and then tossed them in the sauce, and the broccoli was really freshly steamed and still had a crunch to them versus the dead looking vegetables that you get from other carry out establishments. I'm almost ashamed to say that I've been working down the street for over four years and have never try this place before but they will absolutely be my number one to go to with the lunch special.Oh and it's a bit spicy on a good way and the peppers used a real. I accidentally bit into one and WHEW. FULL burst of spice (in a good way)

The kung pao tofu was not good. The tofu was horribly over cooked and kind of hard when it arrived. And I paid extra for extra vegetables and received a couple of carrots. I wouldn't order from here again.

Very tasty and authentic! Better than most Chinese restaurants we tried these days. The price is not expensive. Including tax and tips, it only cost about 110 for 5 dishes.
