I recently moved to Bainbridge Island and was in need of beer for my cutie and the guys moving our furniture. I walked into Walt and was just blown away by the selection of beer and wine. Who would have thought a little quick stop type store would be so excellent? So, if you live near Lynwood Center, and you need to get milk, eggs, cereal, or beer and wine, you should make a stop at Walts.

The shelves are only lightly stocked but what they have is sort of upscale deli/gourmet. They make some refrigerated dinner courses to take home and bake; they looked good though we get other things. Last time to the movie house, we first stopped in at the market and got some pleasant things to put in the car: some unusual pastas we loved cooking with those at home; red-peppercorns to mix with my black ones in our pepper grinder; a couple other items not to be had in supermarkets. They probably make their real profit off of the choice of beer and wine and whoever steps in for espresso. But I like the whole store despite that for me (I'm poor) it's pricy stuff.

Walt's is a convenience store that straddles a difficult line between catering to local and vacationing customers. They do a very good job. Like a lot of convenience stores, you may pay a premium for some items. But, you can tell they work hard to keep the price of meats and produce down. It's noteworthy that they carry more groceries than most convenience stores. They have an exceptional range of beer and wine and have some pretty good frozen frozen meals to complement the normal fried foods at the counter.Lunch on Friday's is what sets Walt's apart. Every Friday from 11:00 to 1:30, Walt grills burgers outside the front door of his store. Locals and and vacationers alike gather and share fishing tips and chatter about coming events while they watch their burgers cook. Walt knows everyone and keeps the banter going with and an occasional joke and lots of local flavor. The burgers come with a fountain soda and chips included for a very reasonable price. Walt's store is at the gateway of Pleasant Beach where you will find Bainbridge Island art house movie theatre, a lovely collection of shops and dining alternatives, a swimming pool and a nice boutique hotel. A great spot for a three day weekend!

So only store in Lynwood Center on the island. Being a Construction worker that works in this area a lot I'm here often and food isn't bad and like I said it's really the only store. But the lady that works there is rude snappy and has a sour look on her face as she barks commands at me like I'm 3 years old. I'm posting this in hopes that it's seen and the issue is addressed. Why is she so Nasty? Does she need a hug? It really makes me want to drive clear across town on my very short break just to avoid her

Horrible customer service and lame selection of products, was treated rudely by staff and left. I rather not give my hard earned money to a business like this. Was visiting the PNW for trip and was staying on Bainbridge Island for a few days, follow my advice and make the drive to an actual store with a good selections and good customer service. I would recommend T&C for any thing you need over this place.

I am not sure what some of these reviewers are on about. Pretending that there are no markups in your review only makes others more annoyed when they stop in and see $4 progresso soup, $3 enchilada sauce, and $6 cereal. There are some things (meat up front) that are great priced, and the drinks/dairy are typically priced. On the whole every aisle is closer to Gas Station pricing then to a grocery market. But to be fair, these aren't all markup, part of it is because of the price Walt has to pay as an independent grocer, since many wholesalers won't waste time negotiating good prices on a low margin independent. With that out of the way, the store is convenient to me and helps in a cooking bind for the most part. I am usually happy with the fruit and veg, but it does sometime stick around too long and gets a bit aged. The beer selection is always good, and they generally have most of what I want. The meat is locally sourced and ~4.99 to ~6.99 a pound (except Ullis).Beyond that there is the community feel, you will see people you know constantly and the staff begins to know you by sight and name. They have hamburger cookouts out front, they do the typical lunch grill and deli, and have coffee on call. The prices are high in most grocer items, but the drive is much less and you are helping promote an island business.

The employees are very helpful and nice, but $10 for a frozen pizza and they charge 25 cents for a cup of ice. Really, it's the airport mentality going on.

Many empty shelves. Very dirty. Unwelcoming staff. We were actually glared at by some of the staff. A wine delivery man, however, got a warm welcome. There was a pool of mystery goo at the bottom of a tomato display. The bell peppers were wrinkled and dry.We really wanted to support a small family business but were disgusted and disappointed. We will not return.
