Yesterday's Family Restaurant

This is a cute little restaurant. It's got a big parking lot and a porch area out front and the tables are spaced well apart. They had a list of "complete" meals which are 3 course options from $15-20. One con: after ordering the ribeye steak, the waiter said the price on that had gone up and they hadn't updated the menu. It was annoying, but it was only a couple of bucks.For the appetizers, I had the crab cake and my boyfriend had the shrimp scampi (3 shrimps.) Both were really good. They were small but both tasty and nice to have a little app that isn't a salad. The crab cake came with lemon and tartar sauce to accompany. The meal also came with break sticks which were decent and butter with a nice crunch.I got the grilled fish (rock fish) and shrimp combination with potato and vegetable. The shrimp here was also tasty and a nice amount on a skewer. The fish was large and surprisingly flavorful. The mashed potatoes were fine, the peas seemed straight out of a can, but it came with a hush puppy that was slightly sweet and a slice of watermelon. Some highs and lows but overall a solid meal.The ribeye was cooked well and an acceptable cut. It came with one onion ring which was odd but a nice little addition. The dessert selection was limited but we shared the caramel ice cream (came with whipped cream/cherry/chocolate sauce to make it a little more fancy) and chocolate mousse pie (same toppings.) Nothing fancy, but like the appetizer, a nice little way to end the meal.Soda didn't have free refills, which was the only other downside. Even though the restaurant was small, it still had a nice bathroom. The waiter was really friendly. Since we were taking our chances finding a restaurant in the area, it was actually a pretty nice experience.

This place is fantastic, I travel near Montross but I purposely make my drive coincide with lunch at Yesterday's Family Restaurant. John, is the waiter and extremely friendly.Go here you won't be disappointed.

A small group of us were visiting the northern neck of Virginia in order to see Stratford Hall, the ancestral home of the Lee family. After completing our visit we were all hungry and decided to go to the nearby village of Montrose and try a restaurant there. This place had come recommended and it did not disappoint.It's a fairly small, family-oriented restaurant with typical American cuisine. Think chicken fried steak, meatloaf and crab cakes.Eight of us arrived around 1:30 in the afternoon and were quickly seated. They had several lunch specials. They were also serving 2.99 sangria and margaritas.Our server Kristen did a nice job of taking 8 orders with seven separate checks. The food arrived very, very quickly and all of it was good. Each plate came with a garnish of lettuce and a watermelon slice. I opted for the meatloaf while my bride went for the liver and bacon. Some of the other diners had the open-faced roast beef sandwich, and the oyster poor boy. Everyone liked their choice. Prices were extremely reasonable, I think it was 6.99 for the meatloaf special.if I'm back in the area I would certainly stop here again and I wish we had a small restaurant like this where I live.

If you want a ruined birthday dinner then go here. Upon arrival I went inside to check in and see if it was self seating or I needed to wait to be seated. I was told it would be a few minutes for someone to seat me..... 30 minutes later, I was seated. It took another 5-10 minutes for the waitress to take a drink/dinner order. I wanted a steak but was told they were out of all steaks which left one item I could eat. Ten minutes later and still not a single thing to drink but the two ladies who literally sat themselves a few minutes earlier had their drinks. I couldn't tell you how the food tasted as we decided to leave. Oh, and the waitress' attitude left something to be desired. Never again!!!!!

The food is just like home cooked meal from your mom's kitchen! Crab cakes are amazing! My dad had open roastbeef sanwhch, mashpotatos and lima beans. I had crab cakes, mash potatoes and lima beans! We shared homemade chocolate pie! The food was so good and service was excellentIf you looking for a nice home cook meal and great people this is your place! !

First time coming to this establishment. Loved the family feel atmosphere. Had a new waitress who was nervous but she did great although she didn't know a lot of items but it was just great! She was a sweetheart. The prices was within range of what I expected to pay. Best restaurant in Montross!!!

Read the reviews on Yelp and while visiting over in Warsaw, we decided to make a side trip and check this place out. And I'm so glad we did. The service was quick which is saying something since there were only two servers handling at least a dozen tables. I had country fried steak with mashed potatoes and collard greens. You didn't need a knife to cut into that steak. It was so tender and full of flavor. My husband had chicken and dumplings with braised carrots and mashed potatoes. Both meals were reasonably priced and included an appetizer and dessert. Not sure when I'll be back but you can be sure this place will be one of my stops.

Great local place, the new owners are amazing! Love the wait staff and delicious food!

The fish and chips were delicious. All the staff was polite, friendly & attentive. The fried green beans are a must!

It was our first visit and we weren't disappointed. It was very clean and both the service and the food were excellent. My husband said it was the best battered shrimp he's had in years. The price was really reasonable. Their 3 course meals include an appetizer, entree with 2 sides, and desert.
