WRV Surf Camp

I was nervous about sending my kids to surf camp since they are the youngest allowed age to participate, but they had a blast and asked to do it again. I was nervous about the 1:4 ratio, but since they were on the younger end, it was mostly a 1:2 or 1:3 ratio for them. I had visions of them being pulled under a wave and being traumatized by the ocean forever, and it's true they did get hit by the board a few times, but the instructors were so positive that the kids didn't mind much, kind of like how falling is a fact of life when you're learning to walk (but we don't tell kids not to learn to walk). I learned a thing or two too - instead of reaching to a bad wipeout with "Are you ok??", I can try saying "Sick wipeout dude!" :)The one thing I would note is to pay attention to the tides - I think the camps are better at low tide.

WRV Surf Camp is an incredible experience for all beginner surfers. The campers learn about surfing safety, technique and the ocean! The instructors are super knowledgeable and it was clear they have a passion for surfing and love sharing the sport with the kids. We signed up for a 3 day afternoon camp and my son loved it so much that we immediately signed up for the following week. WRV Surf Camp made our summer!

My 6 year old absolutely loves this camp!! The instructors are absolutely amazing! It's safe, fun, and the team works hard on ensuring covid safe distancing. We have already returned 3xs and have signed up for more! The camp starts out with beach practice time. Then the instructors will team up with 1 or 2 kids depending on their comfort level or the kids capability/ comfortable level in the water to practice surfing. It's an amazing camp and I highly recommend it!

We have taken our grandson, Jackson, every summer for the past three years. Next year his brother, Cameron, will join him. Great camp, great instructors. Brendan is a standup guy. Wants to make the camp the best experience for surfers and the parents (if there are any extra boards, he doesn't mind if the parents grab one to give it a go). Cameron was supposed to go this year but an ear infection scuttled those plans. Talked to Brendan and no worries - refund or use the fee for next summer. And a special shout out to Summer who was great. Jackson improved so much with her help.

We had an amazing time. Safe for most ages. There were ages 4 through 40 in my kids group. The boards were foam so they were durable and safe. Brendon was especially awesome. He really helped my girls hang ten.

The instructors at wrv surf camp are the best I've ever encountered! We moved here from Hawaii and one of my daughters was already a surfer but needed help in certain areas and my other two were brand new to the sport! The team at wrv surf camp were knowledgeable, kind, safe with the kids and most importantly made camp so much fun! Being a former division 1 athlete I've had a lot of different experiences with coaches and the staff at wrv are what great coaches are made of! They push the kids if Needed but let them go at their own pace when required! can't say enough great things about camp in fact we did it twice this summer!

This is the first review I ever written . I am the type who always reads reviews but never writes them We had such a great experience with WRV Surf Camp that I had to post something. We live in northern NY and just got home from a vacation in Virginia Beach. We found about the camp from a local who recommended it to us. Since we live hours from the ocean and my girls ( age 11&13) love to snowboard I decided to sign them up. It was the best decision we could have made. The camp met every morning for 5 days and consisted of kids of all ages and levels of surfing. The camp had many instructors to supervise and teach the kids how to surf. They provided one on one instruction for beginners and group instruction for the better surfers. I felt that the kids were safe at all times .Brendan did a excellent job giving my girls the self confidence they needed to go out on a rough day .I have .to admit that it was a amazing feeling watching my two girls catch their first waves. The best part about it is that they have two professional photographers documenting the experience so we have incredible photos to remember the week. I could go on and on. but I wont. I will say that if you are a local or just visiting VB please check out WRV Surf Camp ! You and your kids will love it! Thanks for turning our good vacation into a AWSOME one.! Rick H. .
