What a pleasant surprise! My mother and I wanted to get away and take an overnight trip and I randomly chose this B&B. I'm not a B&B person but I believe I am now. I mainly wanted to support local business so opted for a B&B rather than a chain hotel. When we arrived there was a key in the mailbox. We were the only ones here. The owner had stepped out. I didn't expect that level of trust but it immediately made me feel at home and we explored. What a house! Super clean but there are treasures in every corner. Who does the dusting! Barely saw a fleck. This house holds many memories from this family and this city and you can feel it. We stayed in the Captain John Smith suite. The suite is amazing and super cozy. The separate seating room is such a bonus and I agree with the other reviews it's worth the upgrade. As the only guests we looked in all the rooms and you cannot go wrong. Suite or not. First time experiencing a steam shower. It's a nice upgrade. Took me awhile to adjust the power of it. Warning unless you are tall don't go in and turn it to full power. I did stumble across a first. A black makeup rag. How smart. Ladies tend to ruin white rags with our makeup! Breakfast- oh the smells! I was worried that being the only 2 here the breakfast would be lacking. How wrong. I actually feel guilty this food wasn't shared by a larger group. It's indulgent and it was delicious. Southern at its best. I would come back just for that! There was yogurt and fresh fruit, fresh Ike made muffins, skillet potatoes, fluffy eggs, crisp perfection bacon, and peppered tomato slices. They were out of ketchup which turned out to be a blessing bc everything was seasoned perfectly. I ate every bit onmy plate. What a great spread! They normally do buffet style but since it was only us they didn't which did not take away from our bellies!Overall what a treasured stay. The conversations were easy and natural. Very down to earth people who make you feel at home. Ike is warm and inviting and his smile makes you feel warm. I highly recommend the splurge to stay here and make sure you save time to just lounge around!

Wonderful! The short:Nicely appointed rooms with lots of common spaces both on main level (sitting rooms) and downstairs.Comfortable beds, good food - nice location.Tight parking (try to arrive in 1 car - we had to come in 2)The long of it:My husband and I ended up here on a last-minute trip. We were able to find an opening at this B&B, and being B&B fans... we were so glad we did. We didn't plan for this at all even though it was our 6th Anniversary and he was leaving for a work trip for a month. We drove together and met at the B&B before parting ways. The hosts were wonderful and automatically upgraded us to a nicer room (King William) - LOVE the personal experience we get when we go to B&Bs!. When we arrived, we were given a tour of the B&B by Ike and really enjoyed hearing about all the knick-knacks and the location. The room had a separate sitting room and balcony that was shared but with a small separation wall. It was all beautiful. We were thrilled with the coffee machine that just kept spitting out all kinds of delights for our caffeine addictions so we wouldn't have to bug anyone for coffee at 8pm-8am =)The house had 3 common rooms in the main floor (minus the kitchen/dining) and 2 common spaces downstairs in the basement (pool table, TV room and smaller kitchenette). The main level is filled with antiques and collectables from travels around the world. There are many, many items to take in. The basement had more space and even some terracotta soldiers (very cool).Food:In the morning we were treated to raspberry pancakes, oatmeal, yogurt, fruit, sausage, bacon and scrambled eggs... everything was delicious! =)We really enjoyed our stay and hoped to come again soon when in the area.

We reserved the entire house for our daughter's 2020 graduation from W&M. We dutifully submitted a deposit with the expectation of a great event. As soon as we learned that the graduation events would be cancelled, we contacted the owners and requested a refund, all within the appropriate timing to legally secure a refund. With COVID, we understand that business has been slow but our repeated attempts to get our money refunded has not borne fruit. We see that they have been taking guests within the past year and are sad to see they still won't respond to our request for a refund.

This was the cutest bed and breakfast I've ever been to. The bed was comfy. The rooms were clean and neat. I loved their common areas. It was like you were in your eccentric grandparent's house. The breakfast was simple but definitely memorable. It's a communal meal and you get to chit chat with other guests. Most of the guests we met were returning guests. We got a lot of suggestions and things to do from them. The owner and Laurie was very helpful and nice. They're one of the nicest people I've met in virginia. Simply put. I love this place!!

My husband and I stayed at this B&B while we were visiting Colonial Williamsburg. The owner Ike is such a sweetheart. He gave us a tour of the B&B before we went to our room. The room had a comfy king sized bed, a sitting area and a deck. Nice hearty breakfast in the morning. It was a very pleasant stay.

This review is long overdue. My wife and I stayed here during a 4-day trip for July 4th, 2019. It was absolutely delightful from start to finish. Let me lay out why: 1. The location is extremely convenient. Since it was July 4th weekend, we wanted to be close to CW (Colonial Williamsburg). It was only about a 10-minute stroll from the B&B to Merchant's Square. It's also right across the street from one of the William & Mary buildings, another plus since we love to visit the campus, as we were married there and my wife is an alumna of the College. 2. The B&B is beautiful, inside and out. There's free coffee, tea, water and soft drinks. But they also have a fridge with beer and wine for purchase at VERY reasonable prices. There are also snacks (free!) at any time. 3. One of the highlights is the Skip Lunch breakfast, and they aren't kidding. You get a great variety of home-cooked dishes such as cobbler, scrambled eggs with veggies, grits, oatmeal, bacon, sausage, yogurt, muffins, etc. It's phenomenal and again, home-cooked. 4. The layout of the dining area makes it wonderfully conducive to chatting with other guests. We enjoyed making friends with the other folk staying there at the same time. Finally, the room was very comfortable and the bed especially so! My wife likes the a/c cold, and it was! The bathroom was pretty big for a B&B, and featured a multi-jetted shower. Guests are welcome to browse the library and the downstairs area with large screen TV. We loved Williamsburg Sampler and plan to visit again. Thank you!

This was a cute bed and breakfast. In the house alone you could spend most of the day looking at all the antiques and tidbits. The owner has great stories and is a wonderfully pleasant person. I personally loved the breakfast, The cook made my pancakes to order and it was a great way to start the day. I enjoyed sitting around the table and chatting with the other guest of the hotel about the daily plans. This is a great place to be and it's walking distance to some great shops and a nice selection of dinner restaurants. I will be headed back there as soon as I can. Thank you for making my weekend getaway so wonderful.

My wife and I went to the Sampler last weekend for our 7th anniversary and had a wonderful stay. The house and rooms are absolutely beautiful and the game room (pool table, darts, and 60-inch TV) was a welcome distraction after a fun day in Colonial Williamsburg. The Inn has a unique policy where you essentially check yourself in so we didn't see the owner until the following morning and found him to be friendly and engaging, but not annoying like you may get at other B&Bs. Some cons, though, which kept me from giving 5 stars:-The inn has WiFi but it's painstakingly slow so it's really only good for checking emails.-The rooms have old and outdated TVs and VCRs; we would have enjoyed a nicer TV and maybe a DVD player so my wife and I could watch a movie in the room later at night.-Here's the big one: The breakfast was a HUGE disappointment. Simple scrambled eggs (undercooked), standard sausage, and biscuits served as a buffet. Normally, when we go to a B&B, the food is amazing...the Sampler served standard fare that I'd make on my own any other day.
