Whispering Pines Motel

This place is a dive! Coffee maker still had coffee pod left in there from previous guest. Room smelled musty and the owner was very rude. Never brought new towels and had to ask for them late in the evening as we came back for the night. Headboard is not attached to bed frame. For the price, pay a little more and stay some other place. Avoid at ALL COST!!!

Whispering Pines gets one star for being there and another star for a friendly staff. It gets no stars for amenities. We stayed the weekend after Labor Day and I cannot believe the pool could have been open the previous weekend. It looked like the cover had not been off in weeks. The closest place to get coffee is four miles away and the in-room coffee service consisted of a single-cup pod dripper with two foam cups. We had to air out our room for an hour to get the musty smell out. The plumbing sputters. There are no modern lamps that provide jacks for chargers. Like another reviewer, our friends found that despite calling twice to ensure their reservation, there was no record of it. The place gets some credit for staying in business. The only alternatives are pricey B&Bs and a pricey resort. All you really need to know is that the registration form stipulates that if you want a refund, you have to demand it within 10 minutes of seeing your room.

Stayed here because I was in town for a wedding. I recommend this place! It was reasonable priced, clean, and comfortable. I met the owner and his daughter - both really nice folks. Other things to note: pool, free wifi, flat screens, good parking situation.

We had reservations that could not be found. We requested two non-smoking rooms and got one. My room had no hot water. The staff was confused and not helpful.

Beware of fraudulant charges.I booked a room through Booking.com on March 23rd for for Memorial Day weekend. On April 3rd, my credit card was charged $8.00 by some two-person reservation business in Florida having nothing to do with Booking.com. The confirmation email for the reservation makes it clear that no charges will be made prior to a couple of days before the actual reservation date. Since I have used the credit card for no online activity other than this reservation, I have to assume Whispering Pines Motel, or its agent in Florida, is fraudulently charging my credit card. The manager at WPM can offer no adequate explanation and Booking.com has made it clear that the $8.00 charge is not theirs. The area code for the booking agent in Florida (on my credit card statement) and the area code for WPM on the confirmation statement are the same which indicates the two parties are link. It appears WPM is engaged in fraudulent credit card charges.

The place was really nice but there were two major issues that kept me from giving it five stars.The first was the staff. The person we spoke to on the phone had very poor English and lost record of our reservation so we had to be put into another room. This in itself was not terrible but it meant taking a double room instead of a king room because all the remaining king rooms were smoking rooms. This also caused a problem when we were choosing the hotel because even though the website lists some of the rooms as pet friendly and lists fishing as a local attraction, the person on the phone was unable to even discuss the pet or fishing situation in a way that could be understood.The second was the location. The motel's interior is quite nice for the price but the outside and proximity to the road gives you the feeling of being in an unsafe area. Not much the proprietor's can do about that aspect but I thought I would give others fair warning.All in all if you are going to stay in Kilmarnock you probably wont be disappointed with Whispering Pines.
