Great shop! Was a little apprehensive given the bad reviews about being watched like a Hawk but the staff was very nice and welcoming. No spy surveillance going on. They even let us bring our two rambunctious Boston terriers in the store so extra points for being pet friendly! We no longer have a whalebone in Hampton Roads so wanted to make an extra stop here. Closed a little early for me (6pm) but maybe that's because Our visit was before Memorial Weekend. The merchandise is good. Typically prices for brand names and a little cheaper for store brand. Would definitely make this a routine stop whenever we are in town.

I almost felt bad about writing this review, but not once I read other reviews that said the exact same thing, I had to post this...They treat you as though you are a shoplifter the second your walk into the store!!!When I walked in I was greeted by a cute young girl, which I thought was nice until I noticed that she was watching me along with another girl that walked in at the same time... As if we were going to steal something! No one enjoys being watched meticulously while shopping, I felt SO uncomfortable. It feels like you are being judged and accused already of something you didn't do. I noticed that the workers must be on a rotation because she followed us all around the entire store. I saw two other employees simultaneously greet and walk around with other people shoppers as well.So freakin' weird!!!!!!... Leave your customers alone. The clothes were not that cute either, I literally couldn't find anything I wanted to even try on, even if I did I would have thought twice about it. The bathing suits were also severely overpriced. I couldn't get out of here fast enough.

A surfers paradise with all the amenities. Another tourist hot spot for all the out of town-ers. Yes i am one of those out of town-ers that always hits up a Whalebone before going home, a superstition and tradition that has never been broken. From shirts, to board shorts all different types of apparel is located in here, with a friendly staff to add to the mix. Who doesn't want to experience that?

Fair selection of merchandise, but be prepared to be implicitly called a shoplifter by having someone follow 8 feet behind you who clearly doesn't want to engage in conversation but just peer at you as if expected to make a dash at any moment. Not an enjoyable shopping experience, and one I resent.

Whalebone ... you saved us! Last week while in Nagshead we had brought a beach shade that wasn't quite working out for us ... and the wind wasn't being too kind (although it felt incredible) ... our neighbors at our motel said to go to this Whalebone, they are selling the best, wind proof, easy set up cabanas. I walked in and saw them and said "yes! can I get one of these?" - the staff at the shop were SO helpful and sweet, all smiles! Such a personable crew of people! They gave us an awesome rundown on how the cabana worked, asked us what color, gave us the dimensions size wise, took it to the counter for us and checked us out right away. Thanks guys!

Went to purchase a wetsuit (after owning plenty prior, and knowing my correct size) the man working offered me a size to big and when I told him that wouldn't work, he told me wet suits are "not like a dress size" and looked me up and down as if I had no clue what I was talking about. Made me feel terrible about how I looked and was not helpful in the least. Don't recommend There are plenty of other surf shops around with kind and helpful staff.
