Rented "Second Thoughts" property on Carova 4x4 beach in August 2024, our 4th consecutive year with Twiddy. Seriously disappointing experience.1)House floors were DIRTY, dusty with sand throughout and bed linens were also sandy and grittyfrom Day 1. 2)No house ice machine---just 4 1970s-era plastic ice trays for guests to constantly refill with the local well water which tasted and smelled awful. 3)House had dinged up paint walls, the pool exterior needs a clean and upgrade, and guests were treated to a poorly equipped kitchen. We are not overly picky, but for a house rental of $15,000/week, we have no "Second Thoughts"on picking a different property company. Twiddy quality control has slipped.

Can I go with zero stars? This agency uses VRBO to advertise their properties, then won't rent through VRBO. They demand you abandon the protections offered by VRBO and rent directly through Twiddy instead. Not even much of a savings offered in the way of compensating the renter for the added risk, either. I guess this is why they won't rent through VRBO, they don't want to give VRBO a cut for connecting Twiddy with the renter. Either follow the VRBO rules or don't advertise on VRBO.

Me my wife brother and sister-in-law and five other friend rented this beautiful place. The house was the greatest. Every morning I got up and watched the lovely sun rise will relaxing in comfortable seating that was provided. The beach was in walking distance but to get somewhere you had a little drive. Soaked my tired body in a very nice hot tub and waded in the nice pool. Needless to say staying at Elena Grant will be one our list for our next trip

DO NOT STAY AT SMITTEN. Filthy house, outdated, worn down, dangerous for kids and disgusting. Flimsy towels, broken appliances, and a backed up kitchen sink. No ice makers, filthy vent fans, food smattered baseboards. Will not use Twiddy again.

We rented a house from Twiddy on the Outer Banks in August 2021. It was called "5 O'Clock Somewhere". I want to start by saying we had a fabulous time, great views, steps from the ocean, and great house layout...there were just a few too many complaints about this house as we stayed through the week and utilized it more. Simply, this place is in need of some real TLC.The booking and check-in process was easy and the photos online were accurate, but as we got to the house, we quickly realized these photos were taken some time ago and the house needed some real TLC. Missing utensils in the kitchen, cabinets broken, tv sounds terrible, dishwasher didn't work (after calling Twiddy and having 3 techs come out to fix it), bathrooms a mess, dust & dead bugs everywhere...I could go on. We paid a $200+ cleaning fee and feel like this house wasn't even cleaned when we arrived. Especially during COVID...that's completely disgusting. I think they just did the towels and sheets and moved on.They're very nice whenever you call to report something, but I feel like the problem doesn't even get resolved. During our check-in they mentioned streets to the house are flooded (we stayed in a 4x4 house right on the drive out beach) but didn't give us a safe route to get to the house. They just said we could call if we can't get through the puddles. These were big puddles and it was absolutely rediculous that as we were stuck, after driving 12 hours through the night, we had to wait on hold to get someone to come out and help us. How easy would it be to draw us up a map??? Geez. Also, as we drove out on the beach, we ended up getting stuck. Twiddy told us AFTER the fact that you can call them to help you out...why wouldn't you tell your customers who are staying on the 4x4 beach that this option is available to their guests? We are out of town and haven't stayed with Twiddy before and were feeling like fish out of water, looking like idiots trying to get someone to help pull us out.Overall, I loved our vacation here, we stayed with a large group of friends and it was a great time with the house in the perfect location with a pool & hot tub. I really just wish they took better care of this home. Especially for the amount of money paid for this rental.

Let me start off by saying the only reason this is a 2-star review is due to the mostly excellent Customer Service experience we have had up until this point. We arrived at our rental, Sea Glass of Corolla, on Saturday, August 23 at about 5:30 in the evening. Within an hour, our 7-year-old brought us a fishing hook that she found on the bottom of her sock, followed by a second one 20 minutes later. This was the start of a list 14 items long by the end of that night. The issues that we ran into included, but not limited to, those fish hooks, 4 inches of fishing line that I had to pull out of my dog's mouth, both the air and water filter on the refrigerator needing replaced, the button on the back of the kitchen sink sprayer missing, the bottom of the microwave door broken, ants on the kitchen counter, TV remotes not working/missing/missing batteries, old dried up dog poop on the floor, the laundry room light burnt out, nails popping out of several deck boards, rotted deck boards ready to break through if the wrong person steps on them, a pool pump spewing water, missing transition strips on the second level causing children to step on exposed tack strips, and several others. On Sunday, Twiddy sent out a Service Tech, pest control, and housekeeping, resulting in me not having the ability to spend quality vacation time with my family, including calls on the beach. To top off the day, after dinner, the smoke detectors started going off in the house not once, not twice, but FIVE times before a tech finally showed up to clean the sensors on them. The Service Tech concluded, along with myself, that one of the hard-wired smoke detectors was installed too close to one of the bathrooms, causing it to sense the moisture that came out after a shower. At this point, on our first full day of vacation, we have had to cancel evening plans and had FOUR different people in the house at different times. Monday things settled down to start, but there was still a Service visit for transition strips (these still were not fixed at this time) and refrigerator filters, followed by another bout with the smoke detectors at the end of the day. On Tuesday, there was another Service Tech out on two separate occasions: once with transition strips (which were never installed, he simply put tape under the carpet to protect from the exposed tack strips) and once to finally replace the light bulb in the laundry room. So, now, if you're counting, that's SIX different people in the house a total of SEVEN times in the first THREE full days of our vacation, keeping in mind, there's only SIX total. Maybe that's why we never received a call back regarding the spiders that we witnessed running across beds and on the walls? In spite of the spiders, we managed to enjoy the rest of our vacation. So far this review sounds like more of an issue with the house, right? You wouldn't be wrong if you thought that. But Twiddy should have more of a presence on the changeover day to make sure that any areas not cleaned get cleaned, that any filters are changed, check for the presence of ants if there are traps on the counter, notice a pool filter spewing water and deck issues, and even get a report from someone if there are lights out/not working. Additionally, upon our return home and a review from the "Resolutions" team, we were offered a $125 credit, which does not begin to compensate us for the troubles that we had and the time that we had to wait to get the things that were fixed completed. Their response was that the issues were resolved in a timely manner, but I'm not sure that most people trying to enjoy their vacation would agree that literally HALF the days spent on vacation were dealing with people from the rental company in some way.At this time, we still have not come to a resolution, but we are still, for some reason, considering renting with Twiddy again next year for two weeks instead of one due to the location and price of another house that we have found.I sincerely hope this review reaches the right people and a resolution can be reached.

We rented a home from Twiddy the week of 8/24/24 - Dreamcatcher. I'll first start by saying that we've gone to the OBX for 30 years and have rented from them before. But they have lowered their standards for what is an acceptable home to rent. When we pulled into the driveway my heart sank - it looked nothing like the picture they post! And the price of rental was over $13,000. The yard had weeds as high as 3 ft, trash under the bushes and the stairs leading to the house in bad need of painting (as well as the house). I felt like I was at an abandoned house. The house is dog friendly and my son got a tick bite walking him along the front yard. Front door in need of work - difficult to shut. Once in the house - the hardwood flooring was in bad need of resurfacing. Rooms seem mismatched - upper level room was not meant to be a BR and had to use a fan for cooling. Master BR - no blinds for bath area and as the double sinks are in front so zero privacy - for both the bath area and the bed. Bizarre set up having a bathroom within the bedroom. Master bath fan also blew out hot air! Outdoor hose leaked and sprayed and was difficult to maneuver. Would not use the outdoor shower - poor privacy. Toilet outdoors - my son said he used it and the water and all else overflowed over - how is that not a health issue?! Decking in poor shape and likely would not pass an inspection. A guy came out to assess all the decking; he said he was assessing for structural issues - seriously?! We were on a deck that collapsed in the past (not OBX) so that was concerning. In addition, deck stairs were built OVER the old deck stairs - not sure how that passes an inspection as they were steep to climb. We had issues with the last house we rented from Twiddy back in 2020 (torn screens, rusted Washer, broken hot tub cover). That hot tub cover was the only thing addressed back then. Never again. I also am not even sure that I want to return to the OBX. I posted on a group OBX FB page and it had over 150 comments - some recommending other rental companies, but many having similar issues with other rental companies as well. If you don't personally know the owner - I feel like you are in for a surprise. Not worth the money these places want for rent.

NOOOO TO TWIDDY!We arrived at the house to find fecal matter on the mattress cover of the top bunk in one of the bedrooms. My husband called Twiddy and he was asked if it went through to the mattress. Not only had we just walked into the property after a long drive, we were also paying an exorbitant amount of money to stay there. Also, for obvious reasons such as the risk of covid and or other infectious disease exposure, he was not able to answer this question. I am confused as to why he was asked for this information instead of being told that someone would be right over to take care of the issue for us.. In addition to the unsanitary situation, we also noticed the following lack of upkeep in the property, most of which was discussed with Twiddy reps on our first night:dirt, grime, cobwebs in windowsheaps of dust in roomsmildew in the bathroomsa moldy, dusty spoon in one of the bedroomsfloors that had been swept, but not mopped or even swiffered.broken chairs by the pool, on the deck, and at the table outsidedirt and/or mold in kitchen drawerwhat appeared to be a small blood stain in bathroom. On our third night, we set up dinner outside only to realize we had to bring everything back in because the table was so rusted underneath that it was flaking off, and was not safe with bare feet or flip flops because not all of us were up to date on our tetanus shots. We never received follow up contact from Twiddy to make sure the situation had been handled appropriately and resolved. Which it was not!!As it was our total price with insurance exceeded $8000 for one week. For that type of money, the place should be move in ready, and we shouldn't have to wonder what it is we are actually sleeping over every night or deep clean drawers and cabinets. Thanks
