Truth Soulfood Restaurant and Lounge

This is my go to spot for brunch and will everything. This spot has something for every occasion. The service is immaculate and I love it. I love it. They offer specials on certain days of the week. You never know what you're going to get and that's a plus for me. This is one of the best locations for all things food.

They received a 2 stars for the quick service, amicable staff and very affordable prices. However, the food wasn't my favorite. The macaroni looks appetizing, but wasn't well-seasoned. The texture was off--almost like a ricotta cheese. The chicken philly was better than the mac in terms of seasoning. They also gave really nice portion sizes. But the chicken was a bit dry and it didn't "wow" me with flavor. If I visit again, I'd definitely try something different.

Having grown up in the Deep South, I have a love of homemade Soul Food. This evening we had THE best dinner either of us has had in a very long time!Between us we had fried chicken, meatloaf, green beans, Mac & cheese, corn bread, and collard greens. We even had Kool-aid!. This was the best fried chicken wings. Well seasoned and super crispy and very meaty. The greens were fresh and not over-cooked... certainly not canned like a previous post claimed. Everything was great. The only detractor was the music was really loud, but we will absolutely be frequent customers!! The owner even came out to personally greet us...a nice touch.You must try this place.

So yummy. Ordered a seafood platter. Everything in my tray was seasoned to perfection. A crab cake, pc of fish, 6 fried shrimp, and I got fries and cabbage for the sides. All for 15 dollars and a drink. Can't beat that price at all. Very flavorful. The crab cake was all crab no filler which is a plus. Came with a roll as well. And let me tell you that roll was buttered up so good. Everything was delicious down to the tarter sauce. Alot of places tarter tastes mayonnaisey but at this place that was not the case. I very much recommend the restaurant. Staff was pleasant as well. So glad this place didn't let me down as I drove from Richmond to find a decent eating.

I used to stan Truth but if you go there you will realize its always empty. They always have an excuse why the restaurant is not running up to par or they're only serving half the menu(someone's birthday, family emergency) almost to make you feel like they are doing you a favor by even being open. They ALWAYS make you wait but never answer the phone so you can call ahead. They're not connected to any food ordering service (Grubhub, UberEats, DoorDash) to order online or get delivery. I will not be patronizing them again. After waiting 30-45 minutes every time for 1-2 platters, I'm good. There are other soul food options that will have your food to you in 5-10 minutes WITH a steady stream of customers.

I was looking for Salmon, so I googled an this was the closest place. It was kind of late, bout 8 pm I the parking lot don't look to freindly at night, the windows are tinted so you can't really see in/out. The owner ring my order up, the food was really good, but a little to salty. I order a platter with salmon in the side. Alot of the sides were sold out, didn't bother me, she said they had been busy. I can see why. A little hole in the wall spot, an I never even heard of it. They have different flavor lemonade, but they were sold out too, except the raspberry so I got that IT WAS DELICIOUS. The woman who cooked the food, told me to come back an have a glass of wine, I was amazed to find they serve alcohol. They have an area where you can dine in. I enjoyed my food & I like the atmosphere. It's not upscale, but I definitely dine in an become a regular patron. I would aslo recommend this place. As I posted my pictures I remember thinking it wasn't enough food for the price of the platter. Hopefully that changes, but in the meantime check them out.

Definitely worth the wait! We ordered the seafood Mac n cheese and sliders w/ fries. They definitely put they're foot into these dishes (figuratively) ! I wish I could've taken a pic of my meal but I devoured it. Every bite of my seafood Mac n cheese I had crab meat , and the shrimp and salmon was perfectly seasoned with a nice zest of lemon. They did everything right! Mac n cheese itself was delicious. The fries were seasoned with Cajun . I will come back and recommend to friends who want to eat good and be fully satisfied. They complimented us with their great kool aid for the wait which was so sweet!

Nice to have people come to the neighborhood and all but do they really need to have the music so loud you can hear it two blocks over when people are sleeping? Moved to the area and this business doesn't stop blasting bass 5 Decibels or higher until 5 in the morning some nights. Brunch is one thing but some people actually sleep and go to work in the morning.

If I could rate this place with 0 stars I would. We googled soul food spots and this one popped up. The yelp reviews seemed hopeful, however what we brought home was NOT what is shown in these pictures. On top of the long wait for what????? The food is bland, no seasoning, not even fully cooked. This is false advertisement at its best. I really wanted to support "our people" but this is definitely not it.

Not sure how long they have been in business but I came on Sunday around 1pm there was no customers. I thought the place was closed until a young boy came outside. The young lady who checked me out was nice but the other lady who could have been the owner was not inviting nor did she speak. The food is priced well and the portion size fair. We had the Turkey wing dinner and meatloaf dinner and added potato salad for $27. Each meal comes with rice and gravy and a drink. Which is a really nice bonus. The food was ok, it was hot, nothing tasted old however nothing had a signature taste besides the pink lemonade. That was really good! The food packaging, silverware and napkins were well packed.I would still recommend them and we will try them again bc we are major black business supporters and the young lady did apologize for the wait.
