While some of the professors there are both professional and actually fun to learn from, that's a small percentile of them, usually they're mostly really anal about work, give out too much of it, force you to work in groups (hate that with a passion) and usually teach you via powerpoint like it's some next-level teaching, fun fact, it's not. Usually you either have to end up teaching yourself and just using google to get the answers you need. The campus in and of itself is neat, they have some cool programs to help out students in need of certain things, like if you need a computer, they give out free laptops and stuff, the student center is pretty nice too. What I don't like about that is that if you're not currently taking classes, you can't go inside the building, like, what??? We paid all this money to go here, at least let us use the facilities for a year or two after finishing our degrees.

This is a good place for you to spend less money on your higher education especially if you're planning to transfer to ODU. Many of their classes are designed to let you transfer to ODU and one credit of their classes is less that $200. Their classes are also very flexible so you can work a lot while going to school at the same time. The latest class I remember is like 9pm.I recommend you to take all possible mandatory classes here instead of taking them in ODU or other universities to save more money, such as ENG 111-112, MTH classes, ITE 119 (Information Literacy), and CST 100 (public speaking). Just make sure they are transferable by asking BOTH TCC counselors and the counselors from the University you're planing to transfer. There is also an ODU building in this campus, it's at the right of the new medical building. I know they have counselors and some computer rooms there, I think they are for ODU students. Many professors who are teaching here teach in ODU too so TCC is a really good place for future ODU students. However you'll need to do research on the professors from ratemyprofessor.com before you choose to take their classes. Some professors are nice but some are unbelievably trash. One or two counselors are lousy on their jobs but most of them are nice and helpful. The campus is very nice and big, I suggest them to put up more signs to direct visitors and new students to go to buildings. The food in the cafeteria is overpriced and it close too early but the place is good, it's comfortable and many seats. The student center is new, nice and huge. Students like to stay inside and chill. There's a small gym and basketball court for you to have some workout. I know many students who actually live closer to the Norfolk campus but they still choose to come here because they say they like this campus more.

Tidewater Community College has really come a looong way over the years. My husband graduated with an engineering degree at TCC a few years ago. He loved it and after talking to him about it, I decided to make the switch from Florida State College in Jacksonville, which was the university that I was attending in Florida to TCC. I'm glad that I did. Esp with these in state tuition prices, not bad at all! The Virginia Beach campus was a challenge for me to navigate when I was new to the campus but once you become familiarized with the campus it becomes easier to find your building and find your class. They have gotten pretty creative putting their student center, student library, welcome center for new students enrolling, gym etc right in the middle of a lake. and upgrading the building. However there are some out of date classrooms that could use some extra attention. I'm sure over time that will be upgraded as well. The student advisors are extremely helpful with setting you up for success and helpful in keeping track of any program that you may be in or working hard to get into. The advisors set realistic expectations for just how competitive the healthcare programs are to get into and what you need to do to succeed above the rest. Any questions that you may have they always have an answer to, so don't be afraid to come in, sit down and discuss your future. One more thing, TCC's website is EXTREMELY resourceful whether or not you are a new student or a returning student. Virtually any questions that you may have, their website can offer assistance in finding exactly what you need. Especially if you're a brand new student wanting information on placement tests.. What to study, how to study, what will be on the tests, enrolment dates, tuition deadlines etc.. it's all on their website! This coming semester will be my first semester taking online classes versus going the traditional route with my classes. So, we will see how that goes. I'm pretty nervous about that but I'm keeping my fingers crossed!! For now.. nothing but good things to say about Tidewater Community College. :)

I'm a current student right now. I think that this school is fantastic in terms of getting a degree and their slogan "from here go anywhere" really holds truth.Their amenities are pretty good. They have a gym (boxing bag too), basketball court, videogame room, and billiards open for free for students. They have a café that is just plain decent. They don't have much food selection and the food really wasn't good and was too much money in my opinion.Parking is hit or miss depending on what time it is & where you park (there's multiple lots around the campus). Staff is also a hit or miss. I've had some professors that really care about your goals and success while others don't at all.It is just so incredibly BORING, every time I go to the campus for class I'm so sad. It's gloomy and nobody seems to be enjoying themselves. For this reason I was going to rate it 3 stars bc it is incredibly boring. I will say, however, the TCC library is one of the best libraries I've been in. You can rent a room out for 4 hours. It's a locked room that you can't write notes on the glass walls. Also, it looks really cool inside and out.Overall though, you can obtain a degree here or transfer to a school of your choice and it's a cheap option. For that reason I'm rating it 4 stars. I would recommend to a friend trying to get through college cheap.

Been going here off and on for 2-3 years now. Reaching the end of second associates degree, but it is getting time to shove off and start at a big boy college. Had good teachers and bad teachers. The upgraded parts of the campus are amazing, but the older parts need a little contractor love. If you want a taste of college, this is a good place to start!

If you attend the Summer session and then proceed to regular semesters you know exactly what I'm about to say...TRAFFIC! This is one of the major problems here at TCC VA Beach campus. We have too many cars and not enough parking spots. Traffic starts about 1 or 2 lights before you even come to proximity of the campus and is pretty much slow all the way in, until you finally find a spot...most likely in the very back. If you're one of those persons that likes to leave the house at the exact time it takes you to get to school, think again and plan to leave earlier. Parking lot will always be a pain, but be patient and don't get frustrated when somebody steals your spot after you've been waiting for it for a good 15 minutes. Professors, it's a a hit or miss but that's the case for every college in America. Research them on rate my professor before so you know well in advance what to expect from them. Community college teachers tend to care more about their students and how much they are learning, of course this is a broad generalization. Enjoy college, and pursue your degree at full speed. Time wasted and classes failed is money out of your pocket.

TCC has stepped up their game in the past years. I've been going to this school since fall '11. Depending on what classes you have, you may either be going to a new building or old. TCC has been around for a long time in the 757, it's changed a lot since then. I never had a problem with this school, this is honestly one of the best community colleges to attend in VA. Teachers here for the most part know what they're doing, most of them just want you to get in and get out no strings attached. Just attend class and do your work. It does help if you're computer and phone savvy since professors like to communicate through email/blackboard. TCC holds job and college fairs, for those who are seeking part time work or looking into attending a university. Workshops and clubs are offered here as well. They always have events where they give out free food, can't say no to that. The only thing that sucks here is parking. You're gonna have to walk a lot, but that's college, a little exercise never hurt. Traffic can be a butt too, so make sure you leave home/work at least 15 minutes earlier in order to make it in time for class. Take advantage of FAFSA, if you're eligible you can receive up $5000 in Pell Grant and that can pay up to 15-18 credits plus books. They also provide great benefits for those in the military if you're eligible. They also just opened a student center directly in the middle of campus. It has a basic Starbucks and cafeteria (reasonable prices) and plenty of tables and chairs to sit. The second half of the facility holds game rooms equipped with the new xbox, ps3, wii (you can bring your own games or check out the ones they have) pool tables, movie room, gym with a big basketball court, outside patio, and lounge area. You must be a TCC student in order to get into the student center, they have security at the front to check and scan your ID. They opened their Joint Library (open to public) in fall '13. It's a wonderful center, very big and spacious. Safe, organized, clean, great for kids, even has a basic Starbucks. There's no worrying about getting a spot to study in peace, there's 2 floors worth computers and tables. Study rooms if you need the extra privacy.Affordable and flexible schedules. Offers online, dynamic, hybrid, and summer school classes. Several campus locations. Get your foot in the door here!

There seems to be no professionalism with the counselors here at this location. After putting her hand in my face, i'm ready to look at other locations to attend my course load despite how close this place is to my home. I hope she does keep rolling her eyes and clicking her tongue. I think a simple report to the dean will fix all of these issues.

Its a waste of time and money to get a degree there. Financial aid is the worst. They make it too difficult to get aid, even if income is low. They only care about people paying money out of pocket. I'm glad that I went to a different college to aid with financial aid. Sorry, but not trying to be debt paying too much out of pocket for financial aid deparment not doing nothing. They had the worst attitude in financial aid and 800 toll free number is worthless.

I just spoke with Kiara at the counseling office, she is one of the receptionist at the desk and checks people in. It takes a long time to see a counselor, usually over an hour. Kiara helped me figure out my question and problem on the spot without me seeing a counselor. She was very helpful, nice, and you could tell she wanted to help me. She made my day 1000x easier. Very nice girl.
