I had a great experience at Tides Coastal Kitchen. The food and drinks were good and I saw the most beautiful sunset from their back porch!

We walked in on a weekend with no reservations and chose to sit outside and enjoy fresh air. Loved the view and live music. We were able to even see dolphins in the water. We ordered calamari's and oysters that were decent. I ordered the shrimp scampi and my hair and ordered fish and chips. I think all the food and drinks were great. A bit pricey but all tasted well. Service was ok, nothing extravagant except when they brought our food out and explained the difference in oysters. I did enjoy the food display and the ability to add drops or horseradish.

I was able to catch their March 20th deal for $35++ pp which allowed me to sample their new spring menu. Portions were healthy sizes and wonderfully plated. Patio seating was open, therefore I took advantage of that beautiful day to enjoy my meal alfresco on a cool, sunny day with lovely views of the Chesapeake Bay. I had the warm spinach crab dip with the most delicious, soft and flavorful pita bread. I could have just even eaten the pita bread alone. However, the dip was plentiful and had actual crabmeat on top. Savory and not overly heavy with cheese or spinach- a good balance, quite good and filling! My sister had the fried calamari which was a pleaser as well, not too chewy and the accompanying sauces enhanced the taste even more. The breading was crispy but with enough softness at the same time. If you are a tentacle lover, you might be disappointed, as there weren't many or any if at all. (I'm not a fan of tentacles.)entrees- I had the roasted rockfish which had an orange ginger glaze & plated on a bed of carolina gold rice. The fish was meaty in texture, light firm & white. The flavors really came through. My sister had the grilled ribeye with fries. The steak with chimichurri sauce was cooked medium well per her request. The rosemary fries were hidden under the steak. I was able to sample some from my sister. Those fries were really good & well seasoned. I'm not sure why they place the steak over the fries versus plate them to the side. The choices of dessert were chocolate cake, creme brûlée or key lime pie. I opted for the chocolate cake and my sister went with the cream brulee but we each halved ours so we could try both. They both did not disappoint! The chocolate cake was massive - tall and thick with chocolate ganache with the cake portion soft, moist but crumbly yet soo good. The creme brulee was a winner as well. Creme brulee is always a good choice if you want a light dessert. It was delightful! You could hear the crisp crackle as the spoon broke into the top torched caramelized sugar. The sound alone was satisfying. It's nice to be able to enjoy the restaurant and patio before memorial day hits and it becomes noisy and busy.

I decided to give this restaurant another try as I was staying at the connected hotel again and didn't want to venture too far one of the nights. I was pleasantly surprised at how improved it was compared to almost two years ago. However, this was during tourist season and my original visit had been during the off season. Everything we ordered this time was delicious and the service was great.Whatever changes this restaurant has made, I hope they keep it up because we had a wonderful dinner.

This was my first visit to Tides Coastal Kitchen formerly The Tin Cup Oyster Bar. They changed the name last month for what reasons I do not know. The menu did receive a small revamp as well and still offers seafood, but apparently not a focus. For non hotel guest parking is free by using the valet service. Pull straight in and receive a ticket. Throw them a few bucks tip as the service is never free. I found this to be ideal to bring in locals like myself. The valets were welcoming and instructed us where Tides was located after entering the hotel lobby. Everything was clean and presented nicely. The elevator is to the left walking in and the restaurant is on the second floor in the rear. Everything we encountered was clean and looked nice, even smelled good. A hostess was welcoming and seated us at our choice of table which was on the deck. It was a hot mid day weekend, but perfect for vacation vibes with nearby pool and the bay in front of us. Lots of activity off the water and cabanas dotted along the water line. Our waiter provided menus and followed up with drinks in a timely manner. He smiled and was friendly. The deck was probably 25% capacity, again it was hot! A piña colada and margarita was ordered. Waters were automatically put on the table which is smart, however they were small cups. The menu is smallish which is ok as a variety of items to chose from was offered. The drinks took possibly 15 minutes, too long! Our orders were taken at that time. Fish n' chips spoke to me as it's a fave I tend to get when ever I see. But a whopping $28 seemed obscene. My wife got a Chicken Cesar Salad with a more modest price point of $14. We really enjoyed the drink and view and was in no rush thankfully. A water refill was performed as we wait. I would recommend larger cups or a decanter for guest to fill on their own. Places that want a higher level of service can get burned if they do not perform. After approximately 35 minutes food came out. This was too long of a wait. A second water refill was performed as both were almost empty. Ketchup was provided. I immediately asked for more tartar sauce. My wife thought her salad was fresh and tasty. The croutons had a different take with a mini baguette appearance. The visual was spot on. My fish n' chips was huge! Two large pieces + a half. The fries were place underneath and not overly plentiful. The waiter did return quickly with add sauce. The white fish was cooked correctly with an excellent crispy batter. The fries although fine initially went down hill with grease soaking in from the fish. I absolutely loved the fish, but there was too much in my opinion. I would lower the price point $5 and do one less piece as well as the fries should not be placed underneath. No follow up on taste, or add needs. Past the half way point of our meal the waters were empty. The waiter was absent to request a refill, but ultimately should never need to ask. Another server did see the need for refills and took care of it. Fantastic teamwork. When we saw our waiter we asked for a check. At this point we had been there over an hour and a half. The total was $81 and change without tip. After 20% applied over $100. This obviously was too much for the overall experience. The waiter I might add was 100% friendly and accommodating, but likely stretched to thin with tables inside. The restrooms are just outside their door and we found both clean. However the sink faucets are too high causing water to go every where. This review was a bit of a challenge to nail down on a even number scale. I do not believe they hit a 3 (A-OK) in my book. However they were not far off with a 2.5 rounding down. Higher prices are somewhat expected at resort properties. However absent and slow service with no follow up cannot be given a 3 if I'm evaluating. I would encourage them to develop a social presence. Their Instagram has no photos. Spend some money on professional photos highlighting a revamped menu. For me I probably will not return any time soon.

Meh, I wasn't impressed with Tin Cup. It has potential, but staffing issues and food quality that doesn't justify its price points equates to a lackluster birthday lunch. As far as its optics, Tin Cup is easily 5-stars. They are located on the second floor of the Delta Hotels Bayfront Suites and are situated mere feet from the water (Chesapeake Bay). Their setup is quite lovely - you can opt to sit outside and enjoy the view. We decided to stay inside as it was a tad chilly yesterday (6/5/23).Upon arriving, we had to wait a few minutes to be seated (the host wasn't at the host stand). The host was kind and pleasant, but she was helping the rest of the FOH staff. Kudos to her helping out, but it took some time for her to get around to seating us. I made reservations, but it wasn't busy when we came in for lunch. After we were finally seated, we checked out the menu and waited. Then we waited some more. Initial table greet took roughly 10 minutes. By my observation, this was the result of just one server available to work both the inside dining area and the outdoor deck. There was a bartender on duty with two people dining at the bar and the host, whom I already mentioned was helping out wherever and whenever she could. With it being a Monday, I get it - management scheduled as few as possible to save on labor. But, man, on our end there was a lot of waiting going on. That lone server was Dianna. She was nice but there were enough people dining in to prevent her from providing more table visits. When she arrived at our table for the initial table greet, we were ready to order our entrees. So we ordered everything (drinks, appetizer, entrees) at once. Mom ordered coffee but they didn't have any made, so a fresh cup didn't arrive until after we received our appetizer (Chesapeake crab dip).We were almost finished with the crab dip when our entrees arrived. Mom ordered the oyster po' boy while I decided to treat myself (it was my birthday, after all) to a ribeye. Mom commented that her entree was decent but there was too much breading - it masked the actual size of the oysters. I liked my ribeye - it was cooked to a perfect mid-rare. It wasn't a 14 oz. piece (more like 11-12 oz.), though, as the menu described. This combination means Tin Cup cut back a little in lieu of rising costs. Again, I understand, but that means the customer is overpaying. I felt like I overpaid, so this stands as one of the less memorable birthday meals I've encountered. As we were finishing our meals, Dianna came by and dropped off the check. She didn't ask if we needed anything else and didn't offer any dessert. Considering a birthday is a good excuse to order dessert, I was upset with this. I'd like to stress that Dianna was kind, but she was likely ready to get rid of a bunch of customers so that maybe she could catch a breath. This portion of our dining experience basically confirmed Tin Cup has staffing issues. That's crummy because they really could rock things out under optimal conditions. During our meal, I ran into a former co-worker now employed at the Delta (but not the restaurant). He told me that Tin Cup may permanently close and reopen under a new, more seafood-centric concept. Maybe that change will do some good, but if they continue to operate with no help, the concept will not matter. Thank you, though, Tin Cup, for your efforts. JV

I'm not quite sure how to rate this restaurant since my two experiences were totally different. The second I don't consider the fault of the restaurant. It appears to be that of a shortage of staffing. But back to the beginning. The restaurant has a beautiful & scenic view of the Chesapeake Bay. It's located in the newly renovated Delta Hotel by Marriott. Locals will remember it as the long time Virginia Beach Resort Hotel & Conference Center. The location is where Great Neck Road dead ends into Shore Drive. It can be accessed from I-264 via the London Bridge Road exit going north. London Bridge becomes Great Neck Road when it crosses Virginia Beach Boulevard. I-64 to Northampton Boulevard to Shore Drive is a route as is (from the Oceanfront) Atlantic Ave north which becomes Shore Drive when it rounds Cape Henry & heads west.Park in the underground parking lot & take the elevator, located at the back, up to the restaurant level. There is beach access adjacent to to restaurant entrance. The restaurant renovation is beautiful with open views of the Bay, even seated at inside tables. There is a large bar nicely located.Make a reservation before planning to go, especially during tourist season. At the height of the season reservations must be made well in advance. We happened to go the most recent time on Labor Day & lucked out on getting reservations. I'm sure many tourists were already on their way home. The host who seated us remarked that withoutreservations we would not able to be seated. I eventually learned why. Our server was great. I wanted a drink they no longer had on the menu, the Tin Cup Smash. He said the bartender would fix it anyway. It was terrific. We began with their fabulous oysters, half my favorite (Lynnhaven) & half my son's choice. We noticed that in our section there appeared to be only the one server & one person bussing tables. He cleared our table before we had gotten our entrees, seemingly quite nervous & said to us that he was really stressed. We thought that a strange random comment. It seemed to be taking a long time for the food but we didn't mind waiting. Our section started to clear out without others being seated, which was also strange on a holiday weekend.Eventually our server came to our table, seeming to need to share his stress with friendly patrons. He said the entire kitchen staff had walked out. There was no one in the kitchen. But he assured us we would still get our food & the meat would be Comp'd. I felt badly for them, having this happen on Labor Day, most likely with a full hotel. When the food came you could tell it had not been prepared by a chef. The tuna was fine. But the brussel sprouts & asparagus were overcooked. I was fine with them since I understood what a problem the staff was attempting to work through. The server deserved a big tip considering how bad his night must have been. I made sure to put it directly in his hand. Our first visit to this restaurant was fabulous. So I strongly urge you to try this picturesque restaurant. Don't forget to order the Oysters!

Ordered crab dip, burrata and sliders as room service during our stay at Delta Marriott. Sliders were good. Not sure how good the rest of the food could have been as we had to eat it cold as was delivered with no utensils. Called several times to try and get utensils but ended up going down to the restaurant to ask for utensils. By the time we ate the food the crab dip and bread were all cold. If we weren't so hungry after a day of golf I would have returned the food.

This place sucks. We had a reservation for 8:45 and didn't get seated until past 9:20. Not to mention, we got seated right after a couple who had a reservation for 8:00. When we got the food (which took a fair amount of time) it was unbelievably underwhelming. I ordered the Shrimp and grits and subbed out the grits for fries and to which I received only 6 shrimp. I was finished with my food in well under 10 minutes and was left still extremely hungry when I was finished. After that, my wife and I only purchased a $29 entree and a $24 entree which came out to be $69 and some change. It came out to be that price because they charge an automatic 20% tip. And after all said and done, when I paid with a $100, they said that they're out of change so they only gave me $30. I'm not mad about the change, I'm mad about the fact that all of this happened and they did that to end it off. Do not go to this place.
