I never realized they organized such fun and informative events. They really do an excellent job executing them. They have the perfect team and tour guides that are passionate about what they do. I've been back to the house, three or four times. One would think, do I truly need to return, AGAIN? The answer is yes. It's the same house but you will find some new information and history each time you visit for their various events. They've held a Highland tea on the lawn, where we learned about the history of perfume and listened to the technical skills of a bagpipe player, donning A kilt while sipping on tea and enjoying a lovely presented table setting with a charcuterie board and petite fours. Or a ghost tour, learning about the local ghosts and stories of the ill informed and misguided public re: determining one's innocence on whether they were a witch to playing ghost hunters and holding conversations by the bonfire. They have great Christmas events showcasing the various holiday traditions as well as their history and how a typical Christmas dinner would look. VB History museums truly make learning fun and entertaining!

I came here to take a tour when I found I had some downtime while visiting Norfolk area. The location was easy to get to. Our guide was very knowledgeable and answered all the questions I had. The guide was also a volunteer so you know the people who are working here are passionate about the subject. There was also a gallery to walk through at the visitor building that has interesting displays.

A piece of Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia Beach, VA. Well not exactly, but you will get that same feel. The Adam Thoroughgood House is one of the oldest, if not the oldest structures in Princess Anne Co. A more accurate dating of its age pins it younger at circa 1720. Adam Thorowood arrived in Virginia in 1621 as indentured servant and was granted a land parcel. The builder of the home is believed to be Argall Thorowgood grandson of Adam. The properties first habitants is thought to be the Chesapeake Indians. The location is in residential Thoroughgood neighborhood adjacent to Churchpoint and formerly Bayville Farms. Your GPS will get you there. Parking is in front of the grounds. The home boast a water view from a dead end of the Lynnhaven River. Tours are provided by volunteers and a fabulous new visitors center was recently added. The City of Virginia Beach acquired the historic home property since the property in 2003 and it quickly underwent renovations the same year. There is programming, look for announcements. Our family has always enjoyed special events such as Lord Dunmore's Revenge. This is a day that involves local re-inactors during revolutionary time. I recommend checking this incredible piece local gem out. A small fee is collected to visit.

Elizabeth, our guide at the Adam Thoroughgood House was very friendly and knowledgeable and gave us a good overview while seated in the office. She explained how they determined the actual age of the house revised against traditional lore that placed it at an earlier time. The property is lovely with gardens, view of the river and on site modern restrooms.Access was somewhat confusing because of the construction on Thoroughgood Rd, a block or two short of the turn onto Parrish Rd, locals gave us directions.

A little piece of history right in my neighborhood!Did you know that the Adam Thoroughgood house is one of the oldest houses from early Colonial period in Princess Anne County? Not only is this a historical site but boasts some beautiful scenery with large trees and brick lined manicured gardens. The pergola covered by wisteria is my favorite part and has a pretty view of Bayville Creek off of the Lynnhaven Bay. My dog I like to take a break from our walk on the bench here. I am actually sitting here while I write this review!

A pleasant stop and an opportunity to get out of the sun for a few minutes and learn. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and well spoken. Answered questions well. The tour is short - less than an hour, but appropriately paced and not boring. The most interesting details are about mistakes made in the renovation and missed opportunities over the decades.

This place will definitely put you in the Christmas spirit! And back in time!! Take the tour with docents dressed in period costumes and you'll get a peek into how the colonists lived and celebrated Christmas back in the 17th & 18th Century! It gives a glimpse of the treasured traditions of the Yule log and the meaning of some of these traditions! The lady docents take you on a tour throughout the grounds and the Thoroughgood house. The history is very interesting! You'll also have the chance to listen to the wonderful music and carols performed by the Itinerant Band and the Doorstep Singers! The Itinerant Band consists of the very talented duo of the Dulcimer player and the Cellist! The Doorstep Singers will surely lighten your spirits will their equally beautiful and talented voices that just fill the mood with cheer! So forget the crazy crowds of shoppers and escape back in time to the Christmas of yore!! The sweet aromas of hot cider and hot cocoa with cookies will beckon you, as will the cozy fire burning brightly amid a back drop of cheerful carolers!
