The Whale Tea

Ordered at the kiosk which made ordering less pressured when you aren't sure what to get. However, I did ask for some clarification on additions as in Richmond the shops call them different things. The young lady behind the counter was incredibly helpful and a pleasure to chat with. We ordered a Crème Brûlée Brown Sugar Milk Tea 50% and a Jasmine Milk Foam Tea with Jasmine Crystal(jasmine tea jelly) and jelly boba(what we call crystal boba in RVA) 30%. Both were great only negative was the texture of the jelly boba and tapioca is off. Tapioca was mushy and not qq. Honestly though the teas were still great and I will definitely be back. They only use fresh fruit and no powders which is great. That grape tea is calling my name!

Very cute store, decor is on point as well.The vanilla cake I had was very light and delicate in taste.My first thought yo my drink was the mango flavor was nonexistent until I realize the cashier did not hear me clearly and then gave me a brown sugar milk, tea. Not a huge deal honestly Gives me a reason to try them again!

The best boba in the area! Fortunately I live close enough to come by often and everything I've had is delicious. Milk tea, ice teas, hot teas...you can't go wrong. Love the self serve kiosk which helps you really understand how customized you can get with making your orders. My fav is the brown sugar boba with coconut milk and half the sugar. Staff is always friendly and this cafe is nicely decorated and ALWAYS clean!!

Whale Tea has always been a hit or miss, in any of their locations. It's either too sweet (regardless if we adjusted the level) and their tapioca is never consistent. The tapioca is low quality. It's small, doesn't have a good texture, and under cooked at times. For the price, it's not worth it. Though, service has always been nice, friendly, and they make their drinks efficiently.

An absolute gem of a spot! Hidden away in a shopping center, you might pass this right on by. Not only is the interior super cute and cozy, it's clean and the workers are super welcoming. They have an order online function as well as a kiosk to submit a your order and pay, making it super easy to order exactly what you want in a quick manner. And of course, the boba tea is EXCEPTIONAL! I love less sweet so being able to customize is awesome; on top of that, the quality is high and flavors superb. I really can't wait to go back and try something new; I've been wanting to but now with this spot close to home, I absolutely will be back!!!

I had the taro tea this time and Korean corn dog. The taro tea was very chunky like someone grounded up taro by hand. I appreciate that it's made of real taro but the chunkiness was off putting. It was like drinking chunky, stringy, mashed potato. The Korean corn dog was okay. It was small and had fish cake inside.

This tea shop was busy and had only one person working on the weekend I dropped by, so it wasn't the fastest stop. This did allow me to peruse their dessert selection. I found their tea menu intriguing and it had some uncommon items. The fruit tea I went with was delivered as a slush, which is not what I was expecting from the menu. It was good, but at over $10, it wasn't that good. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing, but the amount of enjoyment for the money, even for an indulgence like bubble tea, wasn't quite what I was hoping.

The place was nice and clean. You place your order through the kiosk. There were many varieties of boba tea and some unique combinations. We ordered a mango milk tea with mango jelly and a black tea with boba. Mine was delicious but my husband says his black tea wasn't sweet at all even though he put 100%...my mango one I asked for only 60% sweetness and it was sweet.

10/10 for presentation and interior design! The customer service wasn't great. I walked in, first time, I said "hey I have a pickup order" and the young man just pointed to the left and instantly took the person behind me before I even walked off. The other woman who helped me was extremely kind and helpful but just so odd how rude the first guy was. The drink sadly wasn't good at all. I was so bummed because I really wanted it. I get taro milk tea all the time from other tea shops but this sadly just wasn't good. I would like to try at least one more drink from here though.
