A self guided tour through out the history of the United States wars. They had so many different artifacts it was hard not to spend hours wondering through the building staring at different items they had placed on the walls. Some of my favorite items included creepy old gas masks, the war propaganda posters and the tank they had outside the building. If you are really into old guns this would be a great place to go because they have so many of them. It's really neat to see how everything has evolved through history including the clothes, grenades and even the silverware. I definitely recommend this to everyone in the surrounding area.

Great military museum! I went by myself while my husband was deployed. I was looking for something to do and someone recommended this place. It didn't disappoint. I agree that there was too much nazi stuff but besides that it was wonderful. When I arrived no one else was there so I had the museum to myself for most of the time. After a while a gentleman arrived by himself so it was just us two. There is a lot of weapons and uniforms which I guess makes sense. Actually pretty much the whole museum was guns. I thought it was cool. I'd go back.

Found by accident just driving by. Solid collection, if not extensively displayed. If you are into military history the shortcomings are irrelevant, so drop in. There is a small fee for admission, but it doesn't go to waste.

This is a great museum! It is very cohesive and organized. Excellent display of weapons and uniforms of the American trooops as they evolved. Excellent WW II uniforms of the German troops. Seemed like a small museum from the outside but it took a couple hours to get through. And the price of six dollars was a bargain for admission.

If military history is your style, you cannot miss this museum!Tucked in an odd, creepy little building, The Virginia War Museum inspires concern as you approach the parking lot. It's a 1960s time capsule of a building and maybe even a good scene for a bad horror film. But, man, is it packed with delicious artifacts!I took my parents here as a consolation prize because the Mariner's Museum was closed that particular day, but The Virginia War Museum stole the visit! My dad was giddy at the collection of small arms and was thrilled to announce every weapon that he had previously "only seen on the History Channel". When we were there, the museum sported a small exhibit of wartime propaganda posters which also sent my pop's heart a-flutter.For someone like myself, who is a novice of history, the museum was overwhelming. I did not have the perspective for appreciating most of the items on display. There are tons of placards to escort schmoes like me through all of the wars and bits, but I suffered from information overload well before I hit the Korean War--and that is barely the one-third-point of the museum. I certainly wouldn't have walked away with the level of appreciation I did if my father wasn't there with me.Definitely worth the $10 entry fee (with AAA membership).

It's an interesting museum if you're WAY into guns, which I'm not, so bleh. There's a self-guided walking tour of America's wars from revolution through the first Gulf war, and there are a couple of interesting pieces (a George Washington letter, Truman's helmet from WWII, and a piece of the Berlin Wall). Nothing on Afghanistan, so an update is sorely needed. Also, the right side of the museum is mostly about the American side of the conflicts, but when you whip around to the other side there is an overwhelmingly creepy and large selection of Nazi guns, materials, etc. Big ol' portraits of Hitler, etc. Yay Nazis? Ew. Scamper through that part of the museum.

Really really well done! Took my senior citizen father and we had a great time. The descriptions of artifacts was done quite well and gave context and descriptions to show the importance or value of the piece.

If you are a history buff, this is your place. They have exhibits ranging from uniforms, guns, tanks, photographs, etc from the civil war, revolutionary war, ww1, ww2 + more recent exhibits. My favorite display was a Flak 36 88mm anti aircraft gun - very cool. The museum is not very big but well laid out and will definitely take a couple of hrs to see everything. I don't remember the admission price but it was reasonable.

We had a great visit to the Virginia War Museum today. The museum has a large number of displays and artifacts from the Revolutionary War to the Gulf War. It was certainly well worth the visit for both my 7 year old son and I.
