The Village Mermaid

Great discovery on Granby Street. Tom greets all with a smile and always has time to chat. We try to visit every time we are in town...and we always leave with some bargain finds.

This antique shop is an absolute gem! The gentleman working the cash register was both kind, attentive, and full of valuable knowledge. I would absolutely recommend anyone in Hampton Roads and beyond to make time to visit the Village Mermaid. I will absolutely be a regular there from now on. You can find all kinds of treasures and goodies spanning decades. You won't want to miss it!

What a great shop! Soooo many treasures, something for everyone. Found several bargains. I particularly liked the Hall pottery pieces and antique wood dough bowls. There is also some really nice accent pieces. Lots of artwork and carved pieces too. Check out the collection of skeleton keys and other smalls. Too much to type, need to see for yourself. BTW, right outside by the entrance is a free lending library box. Pretty cool.

My first time in and my new favorite place! David and Tom are wonderful and have excellent taste. They also are very knowledgeable and were helpful in identifying appropriate period pieces for a space I am renovating. Can't wait to come back and find more treasures.

Two friends and I paid our first visit here this past Saturday. What a cool place full of warm fuzzy memories pieces and a ton of other treasures tucked here and there. All very neatly displayed. The owners are very friendly. Something for everyone. I will be back.

This place was awesome. There was such a variety of things in here, I was expecting all mermaid/ocean/beachy type stuff. They had it all!! And for antiques it really was decently priced! The gentleman (who i was told was 1 of 3 owners) who helped my sister and I was SO very nice!!! He was educated about the stuff that he sold, even though most pieces are one of a kind. Unfortunately it's under Viliage and not Village like it's supposed to be. So excited to go back here to go shopping!!!!!

I came into the store with my daughter (10 years old) and Tom could not have been more welcoming! He took the time to answer questions & created such a positive shopping atmosphere. The selection was great with a variety of price ranges. Loved our visit & our purchase!

Cool shop, lots of stuff to see. It is overpriced but owners are ready and excited to negotiate. And prices get decent and even good during discussions. There is an old man who sells his things there and followed me around 'harassing' (for lack of a more gentle word- I just went with what was accurate) me to buy his items. And that was completely annoying especially bc the owners stand around and let their customers be followed and cornered by this old merchant marine. He not bad and means well sure, he wants his stuff sold, but no one likes to be berated about "good deals". Some local artists are featured and a lot of unique never to be seen again items. The owners are nice-ish and joke around a bit more then appreciated. Oh, and neighbor hood is terrible. Park in front!!

The owers David and Tom are so personable and their shop is so incredibly interesting, The Village Mermaid really is a treasure trove of curiosities for anyone who loves to browse. I came away with the coolest vintage fisherman's lantern light---what a find! And of course some must-have decorator items and a mermaid pillow. The prices were fair. I will definitely go back.

I could buy it all! Not only because of the treasures but the service is above most of my experiences in our area. Not only was the gentleman running the place fun and helpful, but one of their regular consignees happened to be there and gave us quite the history lesson on most of our pieces that we choose to take home. The icing on the cake was their insistence on carrying my new belonging to my car for me. I wanted to bring them with me as well! Will be a regular... Let's hope I don't become a hoarder!!
