The Velvet Shoestring

On our way to dinner in Williamsburg while visiting family nearby, we stopped at The Velvet Shoestring to check on their latest antiques and consignment pieces. My sister has scored several niece paintings and decor accessories here over the years, and I was close to purchasing a beautiful dining room set a few years ago that was offered at an incredible price. But for the shipping issues, it would be in my Bucks County home today. We were free to wander around the crammed warehouse-like space without disturbance from staff. I found several Asian pieces (wood carved, metal cast, crystal and pastel ceramic) that were tempting and priced to sell. Didn't pull the trigger because I needed more time to consider which would be best at home. But, still had a good time searching, and may give them a call about safe packaging for the two I am most attracted by. No doubt, we will be visiting again this year (2024), and will stop in again, so even if those things are gone, there will be new and perhaps even better ones to capture my imagination.

If you're on a shoestring budget, but have Prada heels taste, you don't want to pass this eclectic consignment shop in Williamsburg! Fabulous furniture and fantastic home décor await you within these walls! Speaking of walls, this store carries amazing paintings and wall hangings, antique shelves and wreaths. As you meander through this space, each vignette is tastefully designed and staged. You may want to purchase the whole display! The inventory spans from classic, luxury and elegant to modern, simplistic and trendy! There's something for everyone's taste! Boho chic? They have it. Asian flair? Got it! Antique hound? Eureka! Rustic country? Done! Classic colonial? Score! Some shops have the same things on their floor forever... not here! The merchandise is ever-changing and because of the reasonable pricing, terrific selection, and impeccable styling, their stock flies out the door! I scored some amazing items here... I left with a trunkful of "new to me" additions for my home. My favorite find?? An unbelievably awesome quilt for $20!! It's one of my best purchases ever! I collect quilts and the supply of here is off the chain! (See pic!)I also found a cute plaid couch for $100! It was in excellent condition! My haul included a gold painted wooden side table, a pretty silk floral arrangement, some wrought iron urns, a mermaid figurine, and cute signage. I was also impressed by the helpful staff, the pristine environment, and the express check out. They also offer shipping if you find that perfect piece but can't bring it with you! Love this shop, they certainly have the velvet touch!

My absolute favorite store in Williamsburg--like Disney World for home decor addicts. I stop in often because the inventory changes constantly. I've scored everything from an artificial plant to an antique oil painting, and my son got a deal I could barely believe on a leather sectional. They'll even let you take home a chair cushion or a rug for a day, to see if it works with your existing decor before you commit to a buy. The staff is friendly and helpful, so I don't know what the Karens who are awarding one star are going on about. This place is a GEM!

Wasted my time and didn't pick up a sofa that she saw and sent movers to pickup. Could have told me that a week ago.

This is the way a home decor consignment shop should be! Friendly helpful and knowledgable staff, amazing variety of beautiful pre owned high end home decor and one of a kind vintage and antique items, all displayed in a gorgeous store befitting it's clientele. This is the finest consignment shop in southeast Virginia, and is with the trip. You won't regret it!

Love this place! We bought an older home (built in 1922) last fall and are trying to decorate it traditionally. We found a dining table and chairs, a couch, and a painting here so far. The prices and selection are great. Can't wait to go back!

This was worth the hour drive to visit. It is the nicest consignment shop I have ever visited. The furniture was in great condition and there were so many styles to choose from. I will be visiting them again very soon.
