This place is absolutely incredible! All guest rooms have been renovated and include modern ensuite bathrooms. The internet is great and you are free to use other areas in the house, which was perfect for me since I was in the area for work and spent most of my free time at the house. The owner, Ruth, is an amazing person who makes you feel welcome yet she is not intrusive so you have plenty of privacy. I am on a special diet and she went out of her way to accommodate my needs. She served breakfast on trays so we could eat by the fire in the library (of course the beautiful dining room was also an option). I felt very spoiled!

From the first moment I arrived at The Truitt House I felt welcome. First it was the house then Ruth the innkeeper. The mansion, built long ago, has been restored and updated in every category. I've stayed at lots of B&Bs to find them "charming but in need of modern updates." This place has that without losing its original charm from 1909. Because I'm here for work, I'm purposely spending all my time at the house when not on location and I love to be able to move from study to library to the atrium and other rooms in order to read and for a change of atmosphere. Every room is unique and has a story. You'll love Ruth who will make your stay feel like you've come home to the family estate. Breakfast is made to order and she loves knowing what you like. Casual and comfy. Two words to describe the experience in this amazing, palatial mansion.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Truitt house for the second time. Our first stay was so wonderful that we had to go back and, once again, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The Truitt House itself is a historic architectural wonder, beautiful to behold, that should not be missed. On top of this, Ruth, the owner, is a generous and kind host who is a joy to be around. Besides being a gracious host, Ruth is an extremely gifted chef. We added a supper on this stay and the shrimp and grits and New England clam chowder were out of this world! For breakfast I had to have Ruth's eggs benedict again which is, hands down, the best I've ever had. Seriously, you've got to put a stay at the Truitt house on your bucket list.

Yes, the home is astonishing -- a marvelous fusion of stateliness, quiet, comfort, and coziness. But the real gem of Truitt House is Ruth, the owner/proprietress. She greets you with a wave of friendliness, and you immediately know you're in the hands of someone with a warm heart and a gift for hospitality. She makes breakfasts that are ample and delicious. She cares about checking on your wellbeing at just the right moments. Her mission is to ensure that your stay is something that gives you joy... and she succeeds.

My wife and I have a passion for traveling, and share a special penchant for specialty B&B's. The Truitt House was an exceptional find. We were booked into the inn by a client who wanted to make our first visit to Suffolk a memorable one.The home is a true Southern belle - a grand dame of historic mansions. It has been so lovingly restored and is perfectly appointed. We had so much fun exploring every inch of the home and absorbing its character. The proprietor (and very talented chef) Ruth has mastered the art of hospitality, inviting us to truly make the home our own. She didn't mind one bit that we planted ourselves in the reclining leather chairs in the stately octagonal library with another couple and yakked enthusiastically until the wee hours. After a blissful night sleep, breakfast the following morning was a marvelous affair. We prepped a coffee for ourselves at the Nespresso machine (fantastic!) and meandered around the grounds until the heavenly smell of baking croissants lured us to the elegant, light-filled breakfast room. Usually an eat-and-run proposition for us, we lingered for over an hour enjoying the delectable food and the conversation with the other guests. The charm of the house and its gracious owner had worked its magic - we were refreshed, satiated and inspired. We departed with great reluctance but the spirit of the Truitt house hung about us for the rest of the day and onto the next as we traveled home. You do not want to miss this unique and unforgettable travel experience - 5 gold stars!!!

Probably the most grand B & B I've ever stayed in. Spacious, luxurious and Uber-friendly. We were driving from South Carolina to NYS looking for an overnight stop when I stumbled upon this place. The website does not do it justice. Stately and elegant common rooms, giant bedrooms, modern bathrooms, and a delicious made to order breakfast made by Ruth the proprietor, who is a classically trained French Chef. You can also book dinner there any night of your stay. Unfortunately, we didn't think to do that. The place can accommodate 10 guests but we had the place to ourselves, which was an added bonus. If you are looking for a unique experience this is the place, it opened just before Covid hit so it hasn't really been discovered. But I'm sure you'll need to book far in advance once it has been. One thing about your host Ruth: she loves hospitality, she loves to cook for her guests, she's very friendly and outgoing. She loves having guests; it's not often you hug your proprietor when you leave. You could not be in better hands.

I have to say that this was a an absolutely beautiful home. I decided to go outside of my comfort zone and book something different for my daughters 10th birthday. I wanted something other than the traditional hotel so the Truitt home seemed perfect. I was a little Leary upon booking because I didn't know quite what to expect. I also decided to request a birthday dinner from the option on the website. Again, quite a bit Leary because we were outside of our comfort zone and requesting a special meal for my kid is taking a huge chance (her favorite thing to eat is chicken nuggets and fries ) but wanting to do something different I took the chance. A on after making the booking I received a call from a lady by the name of Ruth. She was very pleasant and asked what type of meal I had in mind. I explained to her my daughters Tate pallet was a bit limited and she said to give her a couple days and she would put something together. Days later she called with a plan and although I wasn't quite clear on what it would be I went along for the ride. I arrived at the property in Aug 14th. Upon arrival I was greeted at the door by Ms. Ruth. From the time stepped in the home I felt at peace. She was absolutely a God send. She explained the history behind the home and gave us a tour where we took pictures. My daughter was in awe because to her this was a mansion and she was the princess. Ms. Ruth made her feel just like that. She asked would 7 be ok for dinner and we said yes. We and freshen up for dinner and when we came down she had a place setting for just the 2 of us. She then started to serve us course after course as if we were eating at a French restaurant in Paris. She introduced us to dishes that made my mouth yearn for more. I mean I couldn't have asked for anything more. After dinner she then walked in to our surprise singing happy birthday to my baby with a fake and candles. Aww I cried and cried because she went completely out of her way to make us feel so special!!! I was in awe at how gracious she was to us. After the dinner she asked what we wanted for breakfast. I couldn't believe she still wanted to cook but I guess it is a bed and breakfast . She asked what time we'd be ready and we settled on 10am. I went back TJ our room and slept like a baby. Honestly by 10am I was still stuffed from the night before but I was all in!!! My daughter and I cane down for breakfast but before walking into the dining area she called me into the study and blessed my soul. She said that she enjoyed us and asked if we'd like to stay an extra night at a discounted rate because she felt that I needed that extra time. She has no idea what she's his did to me. The past year and a half half been the worst of my 37 years. Just leaving that I'm in stage 5 kidney failure has brought me to a whole other way of living and thinking and this trip was a vacation away from my new normal. She didn't know any of this upon my arrival but the fact that she could feel my need was beyond a blessing to me. She has no idea what an impact she put on my life in just 24 hours. Unfortunately I couldn't commit to another night at a that time but I WILL be. Ack. Not for the house but for Ms. Ruth. Again the home was immaculate I wanted for nothing but MS. Ruth! outshined the whole establishment. Peace and love to you. Thank you for EVERYTHING!!T

I cannot say enough positive things about this place, it's hard to figure out where to start! The Truitt house and its purveyor Ruth and uniquely wonderful and if you are looking for incredible food, lovely company and relaxing grandeur then you have found the perfect fit! Feeling restless from the global pandemic, my husband and I found the images of the Truitt house intriguing and decided to make a long weekend trip. Talking to Ruth ahead of our visit, we arranged a multi-course French inspired dinner for the first night and set preferences for the included breakfasts. Upon arrival we were given a tour of the 115-year-old mansion and where we fell in love with the details, both old and new as well as the care that was given in reconstructing the mansion with modern comforts while maintaining its historic allure. Every room is made up with carefully selected decorative choices from the wallpaper to the furniture. Our stay was very luxurious, the bathrooms were incredibly well done with beautiful tiling, and the showers were fantastic. Our bed was wonderfully comfortable, I haven't slept better in ages! However, the biggest draw to staying at Truitt house truly is the cuisine. Ruth is a top-notch chef, she trained at the French Culinary Institute in New York, and her skills are evident in every meal she made us. With our dietary preferences Ruth organized a 4-course private dinner (for an extra fee), and it blew us away. If you stay at Truitt House, it is well worth asking Ruth to prepare you a dinner to remember! Moreover, Ruth is an extremely responsive host. Any questions you may have are answered quickly and clearly. She was incredibly welcoming, and we genuinely felt at home staying in the Truitt House. We travel all the time, and this was by far the best experience we have ever had. Suffolk is lucky to have Ruth and the Truitt House, that alone is enough of a draw for a trip to the area and with so much else to see and do, we would highly recommend a visit. We have already made plans to come back and stay again, and we hope you will too!

We stayed in Suffolk on a last minute trip, knowing very little about the town or the Truitt House. Upon arrival we were immediately struck with the absolute grandeur of the home and it's incredible renovations. It's a true piece of history, which carries with it the nuances of over a century of unique craftsmanship. Ruth greeted us warmly and gave an entertaining (but timely) tour of the home. Her description of the home was so informative and made our stay all the more fascinating and rewarding. When it came time to go out for dinner, Ruth shared all of the info on local spots to dine. But none of the food we had in Suffolk compared to Ruth's cooking, which is truly top-notch. Food is clearly a driving passion of hers that she loves to share with her guests. Her kitchen is truly the heart of this home. As for the rooms, each is painted a soothing color and has its own personality. We stayed in the blue room with the four poster bed. Be careful not to lay down before you intend to go to sleep because you will not want to get up until you smell breakfast being made downstairs the next morning. The sheets, mattress, and pillows are exquisite. The custom marble shower and the Tiffany vanity light in the bathroom are just two more features to add to the long list of luxurious details of this home. We recommend the Truitt House for a weekend getaway, weeklong stay, dinner party with friends, or even for a business or family gathering. Staying in a home of this magnitude is quite an experience and leaves one feeling like there is so much yet to be accomplished in the world. On the ride home, we were already talking about what room we wanted to stay in during our next visit to Suffolk. So forget the Inn at Little Washington or any other stuffy destination bed and breakfast that you'll pay an arm and a leg for. Come to Truitt House and see what southern hospitality is truly all about. We could not have asked for more from this home or this host. Until next time! Thank you!
