The River Market

OMG!!!! Jimmy and Crew to the rescue! Played golf this afternoon, and didn't feel like cooking and cleaning dinner.....decided to stop by The River Market to see what they had...As I walked past the front window to enter, Jimmy and one of his amazing employees both waved at me.....I reminisced of my days living in Manhattan, when you knew your mongers....this place is as I remember the local delis and small stores I frequented...I walked in the door to an amazing aroma, and when asked if I could be helped, I asked what was on the plan for dinner. Pork loin, ancient grains, and baked apples. At first I hesitated, but the aroma.........OMG, this is the MOST AMAZING pork loin I have EVER had....and the ancient grains and apples? PERFECTION. GO here. Just ask for whatever is for dinner, don't question. Oh, and their steaks are amazing. As is EVERYTHING else in the fridge section. And the wine selection. And the desserts (NY cheesecake!)just go here.Order anything.ENJOY.And thank this beautiful, sweet man, who works his as* off every day to make you the superhero of dinner!!!

Stopping at The River Market was a great experience while staying at nearby The Tides Inn. It's a small market with all the frill you'd want in a small-town shop- decorations, a deli in the back, and great customer service. My wife and daughter enjoyed a box of mac and cheese that they warmed up in the microwave up front. My Philly cheesesteak was very fake looking, but tasted not bad.Before we left, a worker gave our five-year-old daughter a bag of fresh chocolate chip cookies that she loved!

Honestly, the best burger I have ever ate. Even better then I remember. The burger WAS HUGE and sooooooo juicy. A+++I got a cheese burger, with bacon.

I love this place. The staff is fantastic and go out of their way to take care of you. They have all kinds of interesting things for sale.I have bought a lot of wine here - they have an eclectic selection of good, reasonably priced wine.The star of the show is their barbecue.I am a barbecue fanatic and am very particular about it.The great big barbecue sandwiches they sell at lunchtime are outstanding!It is worth going out of your way to get.I dinged them a star because they don't always time the fries to be ready when the sandwich is. A couple of times they were limp and soggy with cooking oil.On the other hand, their fries have a richer potato-ey taste than elsewhere and are absolutely delicious when you get them fresh from the fryer. At such times, no other place I've dined in the Northern Neck can touch their fries.It's worth going out of your way to go to The River Market. I don't mind driving about 25 miles from Reedville to reward myself with a barbecue sandwich and fries after doing something that deserves a treat.

They have the best fried chicken and lots of prepared foods as well as a nice affordable wine and beer collection.

Great food, and super helpful service. Everything we tried was delicious: the Sunday fried chicken, takeout chicken salad, crab soup, etc. Returned to DC with a beautiful prime rib to cook, with instructions from owner on the best way. Fairly expensive, but top quality and worth it.

Jimmy's food is excellent. When we come to White Stone stopping by and ordering food from jimmy is a must. His food is excellent. Before we head back to Houston we are picking up food to bring back. Must try and his cookies are a kid favorite.

Stopped in during a quick family visit in topping. The staff is very friendly. The selection is gourmet, not cheap but I had the best crab salad and 911 chips. They baked goods looked wonderful. We were told that the fried chicken on Sunday is the best around.Definitely check this out when visiting the area. We will definitely return.

Again, Jim has delivered a fantistic short ribs dinner. Takes 2 hands on the bone, one to hold while chewing, the other to catch what falls off. Tasty is too understated a description. Fresh prepared mashed potatoes and string beans round out the meal. Too filling to go for dessert. One meal sufficed for both of us easily. And they cater!

What a treasure the River Market is! I had about given up on finding good barbecue in Virginia, but decided to give this place a shot. I told the cashier I am very particular about my barbecue.I said, "It's got to be really good, otherwise I don't want any."She just looked at me and smiled. She knew.She took my order back and called to the cook, "He says he wants barbecue, but it's got to be good," and they laughed. They knew.Soon enough, they brought me and my fiance a couple of fabulous barbecue sandwiches. My fiance is from France and I wanted to be sure she got a taste of excellent barbecue, so I was needlessly hesitant. She LOVED it.The French fries were the best in memory. They had a rich, potato-y taste and were expertly cooked so as not to be full of oil.The staff is just as nice as can be, too.Excellent prices, wonderful staff and outstanding food. What more could you want?
