We did not stay here but a group of went here to look around and to attend the distillery tour. They have their own distillery in the hotel. There is valet parking for you as you arrive. There was a door man that was very nice and informative. He told us about the hotel and the best way to walk around and see the decorations and the history. There is a lot of history with this hotel, including being taken over by the Navy in WWII as a training post. The place was beautiful and to our surprise- very busy. The downstairs Hunt Bar had no seats for anyone. So we went to the upstairs bar area. It was busy also but there were couches and seats. There was also a live band setting up for music later on that evening. My hope is that my wife and I can go and stay there next time and get the full experience.

This hotel does NOT live up to whatever reputation it thinks it has. We were here for a family Christmas and checked in on the 23rd. There was ONE person checking people in on a holiday week. Valet was completely backed up and the dying/dead/sad poinsettias all over the public spaces was probably an omen. As someone who has worked in hospitality/hotels, I can honestly say that the last 24 hours have been one blunder after another. After the initial impression (not good) we checked in and got settled. We were dressed up and went to get a drink in the lobby bar. It was pretty much impossible with folks standing 3-4 deep and it was just too much. Too many people wanting the same thing at the same time. Reading the room it seemed like there were a lot of locals coming for an Instagrammable photo shoot. We left without drinks and decided to go to the bar inside of Beccas. We sat there and were completely ignored by the one overwhelmed bartender who was making drinks for the entire restaurant. Strike 3...but we are just getting started. Stay with me.We then decided that this just wasn't going to get any better so went back to the room and ordered room service as nobody had eaten. The food was fine but nothing to write home about. They also add on a 22% gratuity which they don't tell you about up front. Anyway, we ate, opened a bottle of bourbon already in the room and tried to make the best of it.I went back to my room and took a shower. The vents in the bathroom were filthy, the mirror over the vanity was delaminating and the windows were dirty enough to mar the view. The rooms are no nicer than any relatively new hotel in Virginia Beach. The bathrooms are nicer, I will give them that and bedding/towels are also in keeping with the price point. This morning I awoke to a room service person basically yelling in the hallway with a background of mower and leaf blowers at 9am on Christmas Eve. I ordered room service and it was barely lukewarm for $40. Bacon was from a bin no doubt. This is just in less than 24 hours. Way better options in VB. Don't believe the hype because that is all it is in my experience. Happy Holidays :(

A couple of months ago I had to stay at the Cavalier Resort for a conference that was being held in the Marriott and on that trip I stayed at the Marriott. The service there was mediocre at best, mostly due to the poor attitude of many of the employees, from the desk to the Tulu restaurant. So, when I needed to come back for another conference this week, I opted to stay across the street at the Cavalier this time, even though my conference was in the Marriott. From the moment I checked in, service, experience, comfort, and the overall resort was TOP NOTCH!!! The whole experience was excellent! Here's an example:* The little things, like walking in with an old drink cup in my hand and the gentleman who opened the door asked me if it was trash and took it from me to dispose of. o When I needed to go across the street to get to the conference and it was raining, they drove me over in their golf cart. They also transported me and lots of my gear over on another occasion.* I wanted to check out very early (3AM) in the morning, so I asked the desk the night before if the valet would be available at that time and she not only said yes, they will, but she asked my room number to ensure my vehicle was out front waiting for me at 3AM - I came out and it was right out front at 3AM!* Status - They not only noticed my status at check-in and offered the options I get, but when it came to the free breakfast, the restaurant didn't charge me the $1.50 over $20 that I used, they comp'd it all. o They even delivered a bottle of wine to my room with a hand-written card to acknowledge my statusI could go on and on... But everything was PERFECT! The place was clean... Attention to detail in common areas, my room, etc was taken into consideration and people like me who notice these things had a difficult time finding problems. The bed was comfy and the HVAC in the room was quiet. The shower's hot water was quick to come and the shower drained perfectly. One of the most important components with any business is the people... the help... the staff... the employees. The staff here were not only friendly, but sincerely helpful and caring. One even said "you're staying at The Cavalier, we've got it covered."Not only do I highly recommend this property... It's my only 2nd ever "6 star" property! I'm in September and have already stayed 116 nights at Marriott properties + 10 nights at Hilton properties + 15 nights at Hyatt... Something I do annually... I've even stayed at a 3 Michelin star place (The Inn) and this stay was in my top 5. Since I will continue to visit the VA Bch area for years to come, I'll be staying here each time!

We only did tea time at the Cavalier Hotel, and it was a great time with friends! I highly recommend doing it while you're in the Virginia Beach area because all the little finger foods and pastries were delicious and they love to offer seasonal teas. Parking has to be done by valet, but as soon as you do valet parking, you enter the doors and the tea room is on the right. Reservation demands are very high, so reservations need to be made at least 2 weeks in advance for the time/date you want. Highly recommend coming here for Afternoon Tea!

We went to see Santa! Their Santa was awesome. He looked like Santa and he sang and danced. They brought in Frosty the Snow man, Mrs. Clause, Elves, and Rudolph. The whole place was decorated beautifully. It was cold outside and they had s'mores, popcorn, hot chocolate. My kids had a great time. This hotels is beautiful and I love the colonial look.

This place is just stunning! A beautiful historical hotel that has been expertly preserved with a very classic elegance. The decor is plush and beautiful. I'll definitely look to them when I come back to town. It's across from the beach in a lovely neighborhood. A grand entryway greets you as you are met by a wonderful valet staff. The bourbon room below is very nice and offers tasting.

What a fabulous beautiful resort this is!! We spent two nights over the Christmas holiday weekend and couldn't have loved it more. The history is fascinating, the ambiance is delightful and the hard-working staff make it so enjoyable!Valet service was prompt when we arrived, and they even had a small box of cookies waiting for us in our car when we got it back two days later.Check-in was the only teeny disappointment. We arrived at 2pm, just in time for our Distillery tour & tasting (a must-do for bourbon lovers), so our room wasn't ready. She ran our card, got our phone number and we didn't hear a peep. Finally some time after 4pm, we went back and our room was ready and they processed us as if we had never checked in the first time. No big deal, just glad to get a room. And what a gorgeous, clean & comfortable room indeed. Room 213. Only catch was the view, which thankfully doesn't really matter to us. We just kept the blinds closed to not see the AC units. LOL. Not complaining. TIP: Make reservations for Becca and The Hunt Room in advance! We were glad we had them. The Raleigh Room is a nice lounge to hang out in for drinks. They had live music both afternoons that we enjoyed. And boy do the Gals that work there work hard and fast! We couldn't appreciate them more!Loved walking around and taking in the history of the place. Corey, The Engineer ran into us checking out what looked like an old slot machine, but it was a cigarette dispenser. He made our day by talking to us, giving us a brochure and even showed us cat prints in the original stairs from the 1920's. Thank you Corey! The grounds are gorgeous to walk around. Cross the street and you're at the Marriott and Embassy Suites for beach access. There's a rooftop bar/restaurant at the top of the Marriott for great views.Wish I was back there right now!!

We stayed at the hotel 13 years ago and had a great visit and really enjoyed visiting again and seeing the renovations. The hotel is gorgeous. It is always wonderful to see the historic hotels thriving. It was great to see the hotel so busy. We had drinks in the Raleigh Room. The wine had a nice pour but we found the appetizers to be very small for the price. They had musicians playing in the corner which contributed to the ambiance. A wonderful visit!
