Patio at Bloxom Vineyards
a glass of wine

Bloxom Vineyards has a banner on their website: The 7th Most Favorite Winery in Virginia. Either the gentleman who runs this place (I'll get to him in a minute) has a very sarcastic sense of humor, or fans who stuff the ballot box for this winery are loyal visitors and neighbors. I saw both at Bloxom Vineyards the day I visited. The owner is from Morocco (French heritage) and acts like the typical French wine snob. Not much personality there. And he's been trying to sell this vineyard for nearly 10 years. The day I visited, he had three wines (he was running low on the Cab Franc, which we had heard so much about, so we couldn't try that). The chardonnay is decent, "Red Kiss" red blend was spit-out sweet, but the wine list was saved by his merlot - all steel barrel aged and pleasantly smooth. In the background, loud Eurotrash elevator music was blasting. Neighbors came to visit and buy a case and he spent more time talking to them than the new guests tasting. Not exactly a winery I'd want to hang out at after tasting. I bought my bottle and ran. But they do have an outdoor pizza oven that's popular in warmer months. Only open Saturday and Sunday. This winery could be run with more enthusiasm. It's only 30 minutes from Chincoteague - the closest winery to that popular resort town. His prices are good, however. Wines are priced just right.

I'm surprised by the reviewer who spoke so poorly of the owner. I personally found him to be charming, funny, friendly and tons of personality!! He runs this winery with just the help of his wife, 12-year-old daughter, and 3 dogs. All of whom made an appearance while we were there. The winery has a very cozy setup - a patio with picnic tables surrounding a pizza oven (PS - GET the pizza! You won't be sorry! One whiff of it and you won't be able to turn it down). I enjoyed the Red Kiss (I like sweeter wines) and the Cab Franc. Bought a bottle to take home to my dogsitter, actually. I thought the relaxed atmosphere was a welcome change from the snobby uptight wine tasting experiences I've encountered elsewhere.

Fan-effin-tastic!!!I was very skeptical; wine on the eastern shore? Really? The tasting changed my mind, and I walked out with a case! I recommend the Merlot and the Cab Franc in particular. They also have a wood burning pizza oven on the property, so I got to experience some delicious pizza. Go there, you'll thank yourself.

A small winery located on Virginia's eastern shore. If you are on your way to or from Chincoteague it is worth the stop. It's about 25 minutes away. The reds are nice, but I am not sure how they grow grape vines in such sandy soil. Beats me, but some nice wine.

I'm no expert, but I know what I like. I also know that Merlot grapes generally do not do well on the East Coast. However, Bloxom's climate is such that Merlot grapes thrive. IMHO Bloxom's Merlot and Chardonnay, the only wines I sampled, were exceptional, especially for the east coast.

Quaint, remote, and affordable. The smell of the freshly baked ciabatta bread was absolutely incredible. The people were all so friendly, the service was great. $2.50 to taste all 5 of the wines available was amazing. The Reds were on point and my wife loved the moscato imported from Sicily. An overall relaxing and awesome experience.

Bloxom winery has a nice set up, prices were decent. $0.50 for each tasting. Logo tasting glasses were $4.00 each. Pizza was good, brick oven $7.50/ pie. Overall it wasn't too bad. The ambiance is what made it warm and inviting. They are open Fri- Sun 12-5 pm. Would I be back...probably not but enjoyed my one time there!

Wow awesome little winery and bistro. It's like stepping into Europe. Love love love. Wine is as close to small batch Home made as you can get. Always open every Saturday. A must stop for pizza and wine!

Amazing food & great service. This place is the real deal. Louanne was incredibly patient with my family who I have to admit can sometimes be a challenge. Our selections were the crab cake- amazing, fish tacos- delicious, fish & chips- great, and the steak kabobs- amazing and the sauces--holy yummy. I literally could drive 3 hours back to get some of the steak sauce.
