The Bird Store

New favorite obx shop!! Was looking for a place to find a local history book and found this gem!!! Found a great book, gift for mom, and driftwood for my waterfowl mounts... Can't wait to come back for some local bird art next time!!!!

My mom and I really enjoyed The Bird Store. They have really high quality, mostly bird themed statues and artwork (with some fish and other creatures thrown in for variety). The real star of the show is the multitude of carved, painted statues and decoys. They have small and large, expensive and cheap, colorful and drab wooden birds. My mom loves birds so we had to take one home, but even I was tempted and that's not really my jam. They also have a decent selection of garden statuary and driftwood. I think their prices are reasonable considering most all of the pieces are one of a kind originals made by hand by local artists. It's a unique shop and a total must for people who are interested in bird themed art.

Great little find on a rainy day. Wonderful selection of art work, all at different price ranges, so something for everyone. Owners are very knowledgeable and happy to help.

When I go on vacation, I like to vacation, not shop. However, I never miss the chance to visit the Bird Store in Kitty Hawk when I'm in OBX. This is not a kitschy souvenir shop. It's more like an understated art gallery - with understated prices to match. Don't like birds? Go anyway, they have carvings and prints of other things too - whales, fish, antique decoys/lures, crabs, lobsters...They also have a massive collection of natural driftwood that fills up the wraparound deck. At milepost 8.5 on the Bypass.

I really think this is one of the most unique stores on the OBX. First of all, it's huge... made up of lots of little rooms that make it a lot of fun to browse. They definitely have a theme, so lots of bird-oriented items and bird dog type items, too. But the rooms are filled with everything from local art to fun signs to greeting cards and puzzles to duck decoys and driftwood. It can be one of those stores where you find the exact right gift for someone that doesn't look like the kitchy touristy stuff available in so many of the surrounding stores. I love to stop here and browse when we are visiting the area. Even when I don't buy, it's just a great place to browse with unique items that are fun to look at. I would highly recommend if you have a bird lover or dog lover in your life.

Loved everything about this store. Packed with tons of carvings both old and new. Something available at all price points. Beautiful drift wood and outdoor statues too. Loved all the art work and prints. Lots of beautiful cards too. More than just birds. This is a wildlife store that primarily focuses on birds and ducks. Wish they had more detailed decoys to choose from but the few high quality ones were just that. Beautiful and high quality. I will be back for sure.

If you like decoys and artwork featuring birds, this is the place for you. We are big fans. The pieces are really beautifully carved and painted.

Huge store with a little bit of everything. Decoys and carvings are available at all price ranges from small souvenir items to beautiful and expensive works of art. Many of the pieces are from local artists and the owners can quickly identify each one by their unique style. Could have bought way more if my wallet allowed and will definitely be going back next year!

Awesome place! Love the home decor. Run by very nice people. Always worth the stop there in the Outer Banks. Never left there without a purchase.
