This place is so cool and eclectic! It's the store that used to be under Elliot's Fairgrounds, but the lady working said this was a better spot- more out in the open.I loved everything inside, and wanted to buy one of everything! If you're looking for a gift for almost anyone, this is a good spot to check out. The prices were pretty reasonable, but some were a bit pricey (to be expected). I can't wait to go back for another gift!

Shop local like you mean it and you won't be disappointed at Texture! After many years, Texture has relocated out of the quaint house on Baldwin Avenue to serve its customers in a more convenient location just a few blacks down on Colley Avenue. The new location is nestled next to Running, Etc and across the street from Blair Middle School. It boasts ample street parking with a convenient side parking lot for customers as well. A beautiful store-front window is always displayed to perfection bringing window shopping to life during your stroll down Colley Avenue. A charming sidewalk chalkboard sign greets you before you even enter the store. The handiwork on the sign is done by a local artist which speaks to the nature of Texture. As you enter the shop, you will find it proudly supports local artists of Coastal Virginia from Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Williamsburg, and more. I'm always impressed by the jewelry, hand designed greeting cards, pottery, and accessories that the owner finds for the store. She or any other "Texurette" will happily tell you about the origins of any item. The ladies who work in the shop (Texurettes, as they are fondly called) are always friendly and helpful if you are looking for something particular. They offer complimentary gift wrapping in adorable gift bags tied with ribbon. Every time I give a gift in a Texture bag the recipients eyes light up! You will find a price range for every wallet. I have bought $2 hand soaps, hilarious dishes towels for $10 as well as beautiful jewelry in the higher price range. Texture is one of those local shops who truly supports local as well. I love both that they give back to the community and support local artists. It is definitely the ideal place to find a gift for any occasion. They have a baby boutique with one of a kind baby gifts, vintage inspired puzzles, funny gifts such as socks and dish towels, coastal decor, jewelry, handbags, pottery, candles and more. I'm not sure how the owner did it, but the move to their new location only brought more of that local charm with them to Colley Avenue. They are still serving up friendly southern greetings to every customer while making their new shiny store feel ever so welcoming. Kudos!

First visit despite living in Norfolk most of my life. It's A Dodson's in a brighter, roomier house environment. Clothing, jewelry, household items, accessories and grab n go gifts galore in a wide price range, $2 - $200, with a healthy balance of trendy and handmade knick knacks. Speaking of trendy, "get your CBD products here!" Oil and creams available just in time for back to school; testers available, try before you buy. If you start to get the munchies, you've used too much.Older female employee was super friendly, like Edith from "All in the Family" blended with the Target Lady from SNL. Refreshing to experience how much she loved working there ever since her son went off to college (now graduated years later); clearly, the boutique store's community minded mission has anchored her and a steady supply of local traffic. Stop in to see if you're "feeling Texture."

Neat gift shop that carries a bunch of things that you simply won't find elsewhere. Some creative clothing items, greeting cards, toys, shirts and a lot of "Norfolk" items that are pretty cool. Many are definitely hand-made quality.I spotted a dish towel and I really wouldn't usually buy such a thing but it made me laugh out loud. At that point, I couldn't refuse.

I was drawn here by the cute mosaic staircase steps. Love it! I'm not a big shopper, so it's rare that I like perusing a clothing store longer than 10 minutes. But this store has so much cute stuff in it that I was there for an hour (which is like a record for me). If you're looking for a cute and quirky gift for a friend (or for yourself), this is a great place to find that unique item. They sell clothes, accessories, jewelry, magnets, journals, masks, and various other items. The store owner is helpful, friendly, and super sweet. I had some questions about hypoallergenic jewelry and she said some of the brands are hypoallergenic or at least stainless steel. I bought a cute, colorful mask, some pretty pencils, and some funny socks. And yes, these were all for me, Lol. I visited their location next to Fair Grounds but they will be moving soon.

Located in Fair Grounds Coffee House. This is a novelty shop, but not like anything you would find like going to a Hallmark. Wood floors and a neat glass display case give you the feel of another time. Many of the items are unique artisan items such as jewelry, paintings, cards and cool gift idea. Even the dressing area, a small garden arbor with a curtain was quite resourceful for space. I found the older staff woman to be very attentive.I found the store to be clean and organized. Although I did not purchase anything this time around I plan to return.

I accidentally found this lovely shop while wandering through Ghent a few weekends ago and all I can say is what's not to love about Texture? As a self-proclaimed jewelry addict, I was immediately drawn to the glass display counter that housed some unique and beautiful locally made jewelry. I immediately spied a pair of earrings I just had to have, but decided to browse the rest of the store first. They have a really nice collection of jewelry, gift items, items from local artists and baby stuff. I normally would not be interested in the baby stuff, but with my husband expecting his first grandchild, a pair of hand painted baby booties made their way home with me. Honestly, I think I circled this shop multiple times because there is so much to see.The woman working the day I stopped in was warm and welcoming. This is a cozy and fun place to stop in and the coffee shop upstairs is just an added bonus! I did finally make my way back to that jewelry counter and those earrings. I was encouraged to try them on. With that and finding out the price was not as high as I expected, all I could say was sold. Sold, not only on the earrings, but returning to Texture when I next visit Norfolk. If you are local and have not stopped in, you are missing out.

Texture has a special place in my heart. I get the warm and fuzzies just thinking about all of the treasures harbored in this house-like store. It feels like my grandmother made the wonderful jewelry, home decor and accessories, but only that she's somehow become infinitely cooler, and my grandma's pretty cool already. I bought a wallet from Texture years ago and it's held up through college and Peace Corps without ever going unnoticed. It is probably one of the best purchases I've ever made, and boy, I've sure done my fair share of shopping. Everything is unique and usually hand made. Sometime I drop in just to get inspiration for creating some of my own artsy do-dads. If you need to get a gift for one of those someones who have absolutely everything, this is the shop. With Texture, you will definitely gain some cool points.

This gift shop is filled with unique items from local artists. However, the staff was incredibly rude. My wife went in there today to do some Christmas shopping and the staff asked her to move her jacket and made a motion to her belly asking if she was pregnant. She is not and this line of questioning is both incredibly rude and incredibly insulting. She was considering purchasing something there but was so insulted that she walked out. This experience was so upsetting that she was unable to focus on her shopping and has been upset the rest of the evening. Only go if you're rail thin or have a thick skin.
