My friend and I have been here at least two times, and the food is AMAZING!!! Sure, ramen is not for everyone, but the portions and flavors here are unmatched in the industry. I have mainly stuck with the chicken katsu ramen, and I love the taste of how things in the bowl blend together. The place is a bit small, and I'm not a huge fan of the counter setup as you walk in. But, the place has a lot of character and nostalgia. The service is quick and the staff are all very nice and friendly. They can help you make choices if you aren't sure what you want to try first when visiting.

After visiting the President's Heads and some thrifting in Williamsburg, my friend and I were craving ramen. It was a cloudy cold day and it was perfect for some warm noodly goodness. I didn't mind driving a little further away for something highly rated. Tanpopo Ramen (which I wonder if it's a reference to the charming ramen movie, Tampopo) is located in a strip mall with plenty of parking out front. The decor is super cute with tons of anime and art lining the walls. We were seated immediately and given two menus. My friend and I ordered the kara-age to share. The crispiness of this chicken was amazing and I loved the sauce that came with it. She ordered the spicy miso ramen and enjoyed how spicy it was. I got the tonkotsu ramen. We both agreed that the ramen noodles were incredible. The right amount of chewiness. I could not stop eating those noodles even after I was full. I wish my tonkotsu broth was a lot richer and thicker. Although the broth fell short, the noodles made up for it. I also enjoyed all the goodies inside. Our waiter was kind and didn't rush us out of the restaurant which was nice. We had to find him when we wanted the check. We had a good experience at Tanpopo Ramen.

I read this is a really delicious ramen place up in Hampton / Newport News. It's in a big shopping center by a Wawa. Easy to find! Close to 664 and 64. It's got an okay amount of seating. You could probably get one large party in there but you'll be taking up most of the place. You pay by credit card.I ordered the miso ramen! Really good. I like the broth. Tons of corn which I really enjoyed. The charchu was cut thick. A little bit of a Chinese flavor more than a Japanese flavor but who am I to complain? It was a nice big bowl of ramen. I was pretty happy with it. What I really enjoyed is at the table, they have garlic and chili oil. So no complaints there! Food came out fast and it was pretty good! I don't remember seeing the kids menu but I do remember seeing appetizers and some other Japanese selectables. They have beer! Didn't get to enjoy because technically, I was still on the clock! Definitely worth stopping in.

Was in the mood for ramen and yelp led me here! I love the vibes of this place. Polaroids of customers surround the walls and they were playing 90s/2000s hip hop and r&b. I loved it! We got the fried gyoza to start which were nothing out of the ordinary but still good. Now for the ramen...it definitely hit the spot and this is what I came for! I got the spicy miso ramen with all the toppings. The kick was just right and the broth was delicious. They also do military discount which was great!

I kept hearing good things about Tanpopo so I decided to give it a try while my friend was in town and I'm glad we did. It's a very casual atmosphere heavily decorated with Ghibli and One Piece figures and posters which were cute. Our server was very kind, personable and helpful. A very low key, comfortable place. The food was very good. My only complaint was the pork was a bit dry, but it didn't stop me from finishing my whole bowl. Very reasonably priced as well the three of us got out of there under $60. Will absolutely be going back!

Sophia and I stayed in the Peninsula to eat lunch. Since I had an eye appointment earlier, driving to the Southside was a no-go. But this place has been one of our faves for a long time going back to when a friend of ours told us about them after opening. Not once have we've been disappointed with selections. Would this visit continue the streak? We were seated immediately after walking in. I was kind of surprised that not a bigger crowd was inside, but nonetheless, it was a cozy vibe. For apps, we ordered Ika Geso Karaage (deep fried squid legs) and for my main course, I chose Chicken Karedon, one of my favorite selections. Everything was very good. The app, which we ordered for the first time here, was lightly fried and went well with the spicy mayo, which Sophia had no problem with due to her history of spices. The Karedon dish was fulfilling and cooked just right. Nothing else to add here!Just another visit on a very sunny Saturday afternoon. Couldn't have picked a better time to drop by. You know we'll be back ;)

What was orderedAge TofuIka Geso KaraageSpicy Miso RamenGyudonCase when the appetizers outshined the main dishes. The fried tofu had the authentic potato starch texture and dashi sauce with it. Tasted great. The fried squid leg batter was light and the squid tasted fresh and flavorful; however, not a fan of yum yum sauce with it. I think I rather stick with Kewpie Japanese mayo for the dip.The spicy Miso Ramen tasted watery and different from the past visits. The "thinly sliced beef" was thicker than should be for gyudon and I didn't really like the medley from it. Not really sure how I felt about the taste of it, but I did manage to finish it. Personally having sukiya gyudon frequently in Asia during my stay there, I'd say not really great gyudon here.Personally I still am happy to have this place for the taste overall is good, but not near the quality I'd want.
