Surf Rider East Beach

Not much to add to the visit six that occurred six months ago except it was a Friday afternoon and it took a while before the staff realized that we had been seated on the deck. Once we got service, it was excellent. Our meals and orders were the same as last time and were just as delicious. This restaurant has become one of our favorites.

This is the best seafood in Hampton Roads! I'm from coastal Georgia and have high expectations for seafood. Nothing was quite what I was looking for until I found Surf Rider. Everything I've had has been delicious and they are getting high quality seafood. This is where I recommend for anyone asking for seafood here. Service has always been friendly and fast, they have great drink options, and the views are great. Highly recommend!

You can tell that this restaurant holds a specific regular crowd and has been around awhile. The scenery around this location is spectacular with a view of the bay and the boats! We walked in on a Sunday for a late lunch and wanted to sit outside (on a clear 73 degree afternoon) and was told they weren't doing outside seating at that time....even though when we left, there was a table seated outside. Ugh. Our server was sweet and she was quick but she was 1 of three servers that tended to our table during the 2 hour visit. Not sure if they were short staffed or what. No harm, no foul. The food came out in a good amount of time. The ambiance and food is honestly kind of like Red Robin. You know you'll probably be able to order something dependable, but it's nothing spectacular. The restaurant itself is incredibly dated and looks like Ponderosa did in the 90s. They would benefit from some upgrades! My buffalo chicken sandwich was pretty good and the onion rings were definitely generous. I would say the price point is very reasonable for that kind of food with that view!

Typical seafood-by-the-water kind of restaurant: good basic food, beautiful view of the Bay Point Marina, little over-priced but not as pricey as some other sit-down places in Norfolk. The hot crab dip was tasty (especially with the unique pita chips), the scallops were perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the broiled crab cake was yummy (elevated by the homemade tartar sauce).

I love the food here, the menu choices and the full bar. However I don't always feel completely welcome by the staff. Therefore I went here with the intention of placing a to go order, having a drink at the bar while I waited. When I entered I almost bumped into someone coming from the back. I stopped myself and immediately said "oh hello, how are you?" The person just kept walking. I went to the hostess mentioned wanting to place a to go order, she let me know that the bar could take care of me. I walked over to the bar and sat, while the bartender wizzed back and forth helping someone else. She eventually said she would be with me soon. Fun fact, the bartender was the woman I bumped into on my way in. I was kinda shocked at the lack of friendliness toward me. Maybe a bad day, I assumed. However she was very pleasant and polite with the other customers at the bar. I ordered a mojito while waiting for my crabcake ceaser salad. Both were great and is the sole reason why I do come here. I hope whatever the bartender was experiencing gets better for her, and I hope I was nothing I personally did.

My husband was excited to take me somewhere new after a morning of studying. We stopped by around noon, and it wasn't very busy. It was beautiful driving toward the restaurant. You can see the marina as you're driving up, and while you're seated. I ordered the cheeseburger and my husband ordered the chicken tenders. He had to leave after ordering to pick up our child from preschool. When he came back he was able to eat, and we both agreed that the food was great. We just weren't sure about the service. In the twenty minutes that my husband was out getting our son, the waitress only checked on us once. When we were just about done eating, the waitress asked if it we wanted desert, and with the time crunch we just weren't able to. We politely declined, and her attitude seemed to change after that. We paid for our bill and left. It wasn't until we were both in the car that we agreed the service wasn't the best. We might not be back after that. The view is beautiful, but not worth being treated that way...

You can never go wrong with Surf Rider. I had no idea they opened another Norfolk location. When I found out I was excited. Get a seat by the window for a beautiful experience.Our Waitress Jennifer was the absolute best! She was ver attentive and efficient.The she crab soup was amazing!! Just needed a little more meat, but it was still amazing.The shrimp are colossal and fried to a golden perfection.My dad and sister got the platter and they enjoyed it. We all got salads as a side and the lettuce was fresh and crisp.If you are a lover of seafood you must check them out.

Our experience tonight was no where near what we have had over the years. Our waitress did provide great service- our issue was with the fact our seafood was overcooked as well as the shift manager informed us this is how they cook it. So we have made the sad decision this would be our last visit.

Nice views, tables are not crowded, service is good. Everything is good but some things are really good! Try the tuna bites appetizer and the crab dip. Get the broccoli, it is huge! Get the collards when available. Their crushes are good too! Not a fancy place but still good for special occasions. I'd say it is all around consistently good.

We eat often and the seafood meals always taste very good . The she crab soup tastes so well. Even non seafood items like the pork chops are prepared as desired . The staff are always so inviting and friendly ; love the vibe. I recommend Surf Rider East Beach.
