SureStay Hotel By Best Western Virginia Beach Royal Clipper

I was running a marathon in VA beach so we picked this hotel to stay at because it was affordable and had breakfast. We stayed here in May. When we arrived, the lady helping us was so helpful!! I wish I could remember her name. The elevator was a little bit scary so take the stairs if you're afraid of elevators like me. Our first room wouldn't open even after the nice lady tried to help us so we got moved to one on the first floor. It was not the most amazing but not bad at all. For the price we paid we got what we expected. We got really lucky that there was another room available (maybe the last) because so many runners were staying in this hotel.Pros:- super close to the boardwalk- super close to all kinds of attractions and restaurants!! All in walking distance - pool for summer- breakfast- very kind staff- affordable!- laundry roomCons:- the room had an interesting smell but we got over it- the bed sheets may not have been the cleanest - usually only one staff member working the front desk

I used to come here a lot, but never again. I had my nieces and nephews visiting our room here, just little kids. During this time it was obvious there were prostitutes coming in and out of a room right next to us. The noise was unacceptable and the traffic in and out of the room was undeniable. This is extremely disappointing and absurd. I can't not believe this is allowed here.

For the price per night choose something else. Horrible parking. Noisy location. Non welcoming check in facility. Room is like a low budget hotel at a 3 star non refundable rate. One of the worst overnights I have had since the 70's. Room is bare. No shampoo or conditioner. Internet unreliable. Try to find something positive but just can not

When we checked into the Royal Clipper we noticed it was a bit dirty but were going to give it the benefit of the doubt for the price. We then opened the freezer and what appeared to be a clot of blood was in there. We decided to just not use it and went on with our stay. The next night a hurricane hit and our door and Windows were not sealed and our floor flooded and the wind sounds were so significant it hindered our sleep. There were puddles on our carpet and our clothing was soaked. We assumed they would fix it during housekeeping but instead they never changed our sheets, or gave us toilet paper and the room was full of trash. But wait...there's more. The ceiling fell on one of our friends while she was using the restroom and though they came fixed it, they still ignored the toilet paper problem. We noticed a pair of shoes and a band aid that were not ours in the room, and then noticed our friend's shoes were missing. We turned the shoes in at the front desk and they took the shoes but did not replace ours. She was forced to buy ugly ones from sunsations.The last day we stayed the light just stopped working in the bathroom. We also enjoyed a fire alarm that was never addressed as well as a mildew smell that made my friend get sick.Needless to say we will not be returning patrons to the Royal Clipper and the experience was a royal disaster. If you wanna stay there after reading this, that's on you bud.

This place is very comparable to a red roof inn. Overall decent spot to stay and close to a lot of stuff.

Don't judge a hotel by its cover. The exterior definitely needs updating but our room on 504 was completely updated. Staff was great. Perfect location if you don't want in the crowds.

This was our 2nd time staying here. Although, the pool is very small, it is really close to the beach. Housekeeping does a really good job and were very attentive to our needs. It is close to a bus stop and very walkable to alot of places. If your looking for a reasonable place without frills, i recommend here. The price is right.

Older hotel, but super clean and well maintained. Manager was great and constantly checking in on things. Breakfast didn't have eggs and bacon. Great area, everyone was friendly and felt safe.

I didn't like the fact that they have an illegal daily hidden $2.00 fee not disclosed when making the reservation online in addition to other $2.12 tax that is legal to charge. And they lie about the extra charge. They said it is a tax. It is a lie. They mix their illegal charge of $2.00 with the legal charge of $2.12 so guests do not notice the illegal charge. Instead of charging just the legal $2.12, they charge $4.12 because they are putting together the legal $2.12 tax and the junk fee of $2.00 that they are pocketing. My uncle asked and was told they have to charge it because it is a tax. It is not a tax, it is a junk fee, a pocketing fee. I called other hotels in the area basically their neighbors, explained the situation of the extra $2.00 and they said that all hotels in the area are charging ONLY the legal $2.12 fee occupancy tax per room per night, but not the extra $2.00 they are charging which is the junk fee. So, this people are pocketing $2.00 extra from each guest. I'm considering reporting them to Corporate. Their illegal practice needs to stop.In addition, the breakfast is basically non existant. The parking lot is small. The bathroom is small. The closet is for a dwarf; they placed the rod very, very low. Just good to hang toddlers' clothes.Also, the place is very noisy. Air Force airplanes constantly flying making noise. Car mufflers making a lot of noise on the busy street at night.The Internet is slow and on a loop very often. They have just one luggage cart and it is very small and all rusted and you have to walk around to find it. So, if you are not lucky to find it, be prepared to do a lot of trips from your room to your car if you have more than one luggage.Also, the room smells like chemicals used to kill roaches.I do not recommend this place to anyone.By the way, do not believe the answer of the manager. Look at your receipt. You will see a charge of $4.12 instead of $2.12. (Both charges, the legal $2.12 and the junk fee of $2.00 are combined to make guests believe it is just one charge for taxes.

I will give a 5 star for this hotel. I liked everything about it. Very polite staff, very clean, and close to the beach. I will be returning in the future. Thank you for the excellent experience.
