Sunset Grill

I had a taste for some seafood and decided to go to this restaraunt since it was walking distance from my college campus. As soon as I entered, I was greeted and was told to make myself right at home and to sit down at any table that I wanted to. The inside of the restaraunt was small but cozy and gave a "at home" comfort feel vibe. There is a nice size bar and a few tables scattered around for seating.I ordered the sunset punch which was there signature drink, it was really delicious! I believe the server told me it had a mixture of 3 alcohols in it. It did not taste strong at all but I definitely felt it. It was a really good mixture. For my entree I ordered the fried scallops, fries, and coleslow. My scallops were fried exactly to my liking and were nice shape sizes. I personally do not like coleslaw - but i really enjoyed the taste of their coleslaw. The server informed me that she doesn't make her coleslaw mayonaise based. It was soo good! She also gave me a side of soysauce for my scallops which was my first time trying that combination. It was really good, definitely gave the scallops an extra flavorful kick to it. If you are near ODU college campus, I would suggest this spot if you have a taste for some seafood!

Humm. I guess my expeditions were set high because the 4.5 stars on Yelp. Not so much guys we saw fresh seafood and was like oh yeah!! My boyfriend and I shared the fried seafood platter. Very mediocre for $40. I got a sunset punch which was good. On the plus side, the lady who was working was very friendly. There was another guy who was helping out who was very attentive. I feel like this is a good hole in the wall bar. Food could use some work for the price.

Plenty of reasons to mark the Sunset grill down on your calendar for a visit! Date night, family meal, or catching up with friends over your favorite drink! The Sunset grill will treat you well and keep your belly full! Service that keeps you focused on the reason you visited the grill. Cathy is a sweetheart willing to go the extra mile for you. Wait is that your mini T-Rex growling for some more chicken tenders! Cathy has you covered, bring the little ones and watch them cheer for more! I recommend the oysters. Don't take my word for it. Very cute, intimate place serving excellent seafood! We stopped by for lunch and were greeted cheerily. Menu was not huge, but plenty of options. Unfortunately, no soft shell crab available currently, so we "settled" for starting with a dozen oysters. Their version of a dozen was 14...New Math but not complaining! Fresh and briney from Eastern Shore; we devoured them. I has fish tacos, fresh fish with blackened seasoning, wife had fish & chips. The fish was fresh, local rockfish, and didn't need vinegar or sauce of any sort. Owner/cook was pleasant to talk with, and we truly enjoyed ourselves. Apparently some evenings they have music, open mike nights and other fun, which we will have to come back and try.

Amazing gem found by Yelp reviews and YES the seafood is so fresh it could still be swimming! We started with a dozen oysters on the half shell, Eastern Shore and yummy. Lip smacking great. Then Hubs had fish tacos while I had fish and chips. First time I didn't need malt vinegar for the fish which was a sea bass that was so fresh it flaked off my fork. Incredibly fantabulous food!

Walked in and got the stink eye because we wear masks. No music, no ambiance, no style. Extremely small dining area. No one greeted us instead another customer told us to sit wherever. Didn't get service for 10 minutes. I was ready to leave but my husband convinced me to stay because we wanted seafood. Bars on the windows, exposed pipes, uneven floors.. Felt like a pawnshop more than a restaurant. Idk who eats here but if you're younger than 60, avoid. We were by far the youngest in the place at 30 besides one waiter.The food is not great. Under seasoned and they don't supply salt, pepper, or anything at the table. Will not be back.Edit: $113 for two people, mediocre food, no music, barely any service, not even at GD salt and pepper on the tables???!!! AVOID. Gent is right down the road and even fast food seafood would be better.

Pretty good food and fun place. We came here before an event at the Chartway Arena as it was walking distance. The place is very clean and cozy, with a variety of menu options. We tried the smoked oyster dip and also the trio shrimp platter... then had the coconut fish and shrimp and the fish and chips. Everything was very tasty and fried perfectly. Our friends had the shrimp platter and the grilled taco seafood trio...also very delicious. Service was friendly and quick.

Stopped in for some seafood while on vacation and was not disappointed! The staff was friendly, and although I forgot their names I won't forget their smiling faces and kindness! Their food is made fresh daily and it truly shows. Something as generic as a chicken strip was made homemade and you could taste it in every bite! We had fried clams, seafood combination, fish, and coconut fish & shrimp all of which were delicious. Servings sizes* and quality are well worth the price.*picture does have fries missing from eating before pic was taken.

Great place for authentic and tasty seafood! Definitely a hidden gem. I only wish they had more menu options and that they had more description. Also there's not much difference from the apps and the entrees that I could see. The portions were on the small side. A cup of soup was exactly that in a tea cup. Also the service was a bit slow even when it wasn't busy.

We found the Sunset Grill while visiting Norfolk. I've eaten seafood from all over the country and Canada. Hands down, Kathy (owner) and her team make the best seafood I've had in North America. The restaurant is a hidden gem. Do not miss your chance to have the fried oysters, tuna bites (OMG! phenomenal), and just about anything on their menu. We will be going back again and again. And. Again!
