The owner harassed me for nursing my son in a quiet corner upstairs. Blamed his confrontation on the feelings of his "customers" (no one was around) and said that he "didn't have a problem" with me nursing, but still needed to confront me about it.Update: I'm glad you saw my review, Jonathan. I disagree that "all new moms" are welcome to nurse in your store. You did not offer me a place to nurse after confronting me, instead, you told me that it would be a problem if your customers or a child saw me. That is not the welcoming attitude your response conveys. Please work on yourself and your attitude about breastfeeding in public. I felt most unwelcome. In fact, you made me feel as if I did something obscene.

A treasure of a bookstore featuring used and new books, music, and a few other things too! It was a cold day and I'm so glad I stopped in. It was cozy and inviting inside and I enjoyed perusing the shelves. I brought home a new and used book. Definitely support this great little shop!

What a lovely pit stop on a cold, sunny, wintry day. Wandering through the store, you'll not only find a great selection of used and new books, but some interesting and different souvenirs.I particularly loved some of the Chincoteague Island posters, but they were a bit out of my price range for the large ones. Maybe next time!Staff were super friendly, lots of little spots to sit and peruse books without being bothered. Great location next to free visitors parking.

I grew up in a town nearby and went to Chincoteague all the time - but I never knew about this bookstore. Thankfully, my in-laws gave me a gift card so I had the opportunity to go and shop. I was totally blown away! There were lots of new releases, and TONS of second-hand books in a huge variety of topics. I browsed the second-hand fiction section and noticed there were still lots of recent-releases available there. They also have a great art section, featuring Eastern Shore-themed prints (Thrasher's French Fries, Chincoteague Ponies, etc). And the owners were amazingly friendly! If you are visiting Chincoteague, you need to stop by to get yourself a beach read. It's a great, independent book store!

Browsing a good independent book store is time well spent. This is one of the best. If you are over in the Chincoteague area you have to set aside time and wander the stacks at Sundial Books. The owners seem very knowledgeable. And from my conversation, Jon is as passionate about music as he is literature.

Disappointed by the Outdated Attitudes at Sundial Books located in Chincoteague, Virginia.I am all for supporting local businesses, especially independent bookstores like Sundial Books, but my recent experience left me shocked and frustrated. My sister was quietly nursing her son upstairs in isolated corner, doing nothing more than feeding her child, when the owner approached and began harassing her. He claimed that the people of the town and other customers might be "offended" by her nursing, an absurd comment given that Virginia law fully protects a woman's right to nurse in public (even in private businesses like his). For the record, it is illegal to ask a nursing mother to move, cover up, or leave. In fact, it's a Class 1 misdemeanor for a business owner to harass or interfere with a nursing mother. It's astonishing that someone who displays a "Vote" shirt and backs progressive candidates like Harris and Waltz would be so uninformed--and frankly, misogynistic--about women's rights and Virginia law. It's one thing to posture as progressive, but apparently, that doesn't extend to respecting basic, legal rights for nursing mothers. To top it off, after I confronted him about this, he chased me out to the sidewalk, shouting and taking my picture in broad daylight on Chincoteague's main street. The irony here is rich--while wearing the uniform of progressivness , he behaves with the intolerance you'd expect from someone trapped in an outdated, conservative mindset. It's 2024. You'd think a bookstore owner would be better informed about the law and basic decency. If you support women, families, and the right to exist without harassment, I suggest taking your business elsewhere.

We never go to Chincoteague without stopping at Sundial Books. The owners are kind and accommodating and always a pleasure, AND I always find books and cards that I can't wait to buy. This is a quaint store with two sweet and caring proprietors!
