I just returned from my first trip to Sugar Mama's Bakeshoppe; I can tell you it will not be the last time I go! There were a couple of people in the shop when I got there and more came in while I was looking over the sweet treats. The young lady at the register called to back and another woman came out to help manage those who were waiting. I bought 2 slices of classic yellow cake with chocolate icing and a chocolate chip cookie. The portions are very generous; the cookie was huge! Everything was so good. The shop itself is very welcoming. It is nice and bright. The first thing one sees walking through the door is the case of cupcakes, cookies, slices of cake, etc. The walls are decorated with pictures of beautiful brides among models of some of the cakes that had been made. AND... they have fabulous DOG TREATS! They look good enough for people to eat! It's a charming place, very reminiscent of old fashioned bakeries with that home-town feel. I can definitely recommend it.

I've been to this bakery twice. although I have said both times that I'm not going back, I probably will. First, the service is excellent. The workers are friendly, knowledgeable and engage you in good banter. Second, it is rare to find a traditional bakery. On my first visit I purchased a cookie. It was just "ok" but it was very expensive... for a cookie. On my second visit I purchased a slice of "lemon" pound cake. It was terrible. The pound cake was much yellower than any homemade lemon pound cake I've had. It was also cold (which made me think it had been refrigerated. It had a bland flavor and a gelatinous texture. I couldn't finish it. I threw half of it away. So these experiences weren't terrible, but they weren't good because I want this bakery to be a good option, I will probably try again.

Wanting something sweet after brunch at a local restaurant we decided to check this place out. Staff was super sweet and super friendly. The cupcakes were absolutely gorgeous and the flavor combos had me drooling. Sadly that's pretty much where it ended. We ordered a lemon blueberry cupcake, caramel and chocolate one, and a banana pudding one. Sis and I were both so disappointed when we went in for our first bite of each of ours and were so underwhelmed. The cupcakes were just so meh and did not deliver on flavor. Neither of us went past the first bite and decided to save them for the kids who don't care as long as it's sugar. The cupcakes were rather pricey which is never an issue as long as the flavor I'd their to match and this time it wasn't.

I would not recommend this shop. I contracted Sugar Mama's to provide the wedding cake and desserts for my wedding. First - I was given one set of prices by the young lady who took my order and then the owner tried to charge me more and blame it on the young lady who took my order. Second - my wedding cake looked nothing like what I requested and tasted horrible. When I walked out into the reception and saw the cake I was almost in tears. The experience overall was horrible and I would never shop with this bakery again.
