Sugar Kingdom

If you're looking for a kid-centric activity during your outer banks visit, make a swing into Sugar Kingdom. With bright lights and colors and a huge candy section, this is a a child's dream. There are many different choices in open bins where you fill a bag/box and purchase by the pound - Keep an eye on those scoop sizes because this gets real expensive real fast! At $15.96/lb as of my visit, you can very quickly scoop an eye popping amount into what feels like a small bag.The staff were not especially friendly, mostly mumbling and hard to understand when I asked questions. Also, prices seem intentionally misleading ("$3.99/quarter pound") which seems cheap if you're only quickly glancing and not doing the math.

If you're looking for a good, air conditioned activity in OBX for kids, this is a good spot. They have tons of bulk candy, toys and clothes. Service isn't great-mostly just teenagers who are working for a paycheck

Wide selection, very high pricing, cool selection of chocolates especially but yeah if you'd like diabetes this is definitely the store for you.

They have the finest chocolate cigars!!! We had a choice of dark chocolate and bubble gum so we got both!

The candy is fine ita the building. The building is so rub down, signs outside half lit up and most sinage missing letters. Inside the floor had 2 inches of water on it from the rain and buckets everywhere. The poor employee was frantically trying to keep up with it. Who ever owns this business obviously doesn't care about maintaining it. With the prices th3y charge for candy they'd have plenty to make the building look decent.

This place is super colorful and filled to the brim with sugar. If you plan on bringing a child in, make sure you either have plenty of spending money, or clarify specifically one thing before you enter. Definitely a very pricey place.I did get me some delicious truffles and a cute mug though. I am a sucker for cute mugs.

Stopped in for our late-night candy fix while on vacation. This place is like being ADD - so many bright lights. It felt dirty inside and I witnessed employees with masks below their noses and replenishing candy bins with bare hands. I twisted my ankle in an unmarked hole in the ground (see photo). I left without buying anything.

6/29/20Sometimes following your nose can get you into trouble. Especially as a kid or an adult with money and a sweet tooth.This was not the case for me. Now I did see some candy in containers the caught my eye, but did not want to touch the many handles that collect candy. The Raspberry Rock Candy is one type of candy I loved eating. Take one of those candies and mix it in Coke and see what happens. If there ever was a watermelon flavor, I missed out on it.I also saw Harry Potter's Jelly Beans Bertie Botts. Every nasty ass flavor one could come up with...not quite...., one could come up with worse flavors, but JK Rowling was being nice.The chocolate frog and other creatures were there at the store too.I did not buy anything, because the smell of sugar was to strong for me. More importantly, I didn't want any candy. I did learn that Sugar Kingdom is owned by Sensation. Both stores I visited in Kitty Hawk North Carolina were right next to each other. I wonder what other stores Sensations own.Not sure when we will return, but when I do, I might buy a raspberry, orange and apple rock candy. If there is a watermelon flavor, I well get two of those too:)

We purchased a ton of different items from this store...they literally have everything from t-shirts to keychains and of course candy galore! We picked up about 10 different flavors of BonBons and they were all so good! The kids at the counter were less than helpful, none of them really knew anything about the candies behind the counter and even though they weren't busy at all were very impatient with use while we were trying to select our BonBons.
