This is a cool little museum in Suffolk They have been under renovation but it's still worth stopping by they have an actual train car outside and a lil free library. It is where all the city buses stop so you can catch one and explore more of Suffolk if you like There is also a gorgeous graveyard and the cultural arts center across the street you are walking distance from several restaurants and during the holidays there is a giant Christmas tree here perfect for family photos

I had a wonderful time at the Suffolk Seaboard Station Railroad museum! Parking was ample and easy to get in and out. When you arrive you have to ring the bell, and the museum guide will answer. The Museum Guide was so friendly and nice! I loved learning about the trains and the Mr. Peanut history. I loved seeing the railroad and town replica scene too. It was so amazing! My ultimate favorite part of the house was climbing the stairs to the second level. You get a cute view ! I also enjoyed the garden outside, pretty roses and flowers. It was a great museum!

Choo-choo choose to stop at this depot for a fascinating history of the railways! Casper is highly "trained" to guide you through the museum with interesting facts about this loco hot spot! This detailed displays will enthrall the most avid ferroequinologist and "passenger" alike! Of particular note is the huge model railway system that dominates one room and extends into another! I marveled at the minute details of this model, like the water tower and the funeral scene complete with a body in the coffin! In the various rooms were exhibits of conductor uniforms, railway equipment, signage, antique luggage and accessories used by passengers- all marked with plaques and cards delineating facts about the train industry. Another room paid homage to Suffolk's claim to fame, the Planters Peanut factory, complete with a statue of Mr. Peanut himself! Vintage tins, collectibles and burlap peanut bags are on display in glass cases along with an old peanut cart that once traveled up and down Main Street selling hot roasted peanuts! It was pretty cool! There's also a little section devoted to train gifts, books and toys!! Train whistles, anyone?? My favorite area was "the Tower" which had a floating walnut wooden spiral staircase that led up to the room where the "train watchers" could get a near 360 degree view of the tracks! The small room may have also been used by the telegraph operators. Don't miss going up these unique steps, but be careful! In the back of the train station/museum you'll find an awesome caboose, perfect for photo ops! And in the front you'll discover a community book box/Little Free Library fashioned like a train car! It's stocked with Thomas the Trains books and other children's books for the little tikes! For train enthusiasts and historians, this museum is right on track!!

All aboard ... If you make to Downtown Suffolk take a few and stop in to the Suffolk Seaboard Station Railroad museum. Been there since 1835. Fascinating to learn of the history of this Railroad and train station. There is a working model train and so much more. The gentlemen working came to the door to greet us and invite us in. He told us all about the Station. There's a train in the back for a great photo.

At first I must admit, I was a bit disappointed when we drove up to the museum. It was a lot smaller then I thought it would be. The pictures on the internet were very different than in person. There is limited parking spaces so I had to make my own on the grass. However, when I first came in, we were greeted very welcomingly. They had a train table set up in one of the rooms with a small television that played Thomas the Train. It was next to their "gift shop." Again, very small but quaint and full of goodies to purchase. There is a winding, wooden staircase that leads up to the tower that overlooks another train set up in the yard outside. My son absolutely loved it! Outside, they had tables for the little ones to color pictures of trains and also wooden train craft magnets to color and take home. Suffolk Public Library was also there to advertise their summer reading program. In conclusion, I couldn't be more impressed with this museum. I can't think of a more perfect way to spend on National Train Day!

This little museum has an awesome model train set up inside that has Suffolk as it looked at the turn of the century. They also sell unique train items, local treats, and local history books. Definitely worth a stop and combine with a walk around Cedar Hill Cemetery next door.

Took my kids here on a lark while trying to figure out what to do with them. I was pleasantly surprised. A kind older couple guided us on a little tour. Lots of train set ups, local imagery of where the train came through, and memorabilia. Second best thing that happened was a train came by while we were there and we went up to the top floor to watch it. The kids were impressed. First best was Mr. Barlow opening up the caboose for us to see. The kids loved it. Afterwards, we went into Cedar Hill Cemetary and visited some of the graves and memorials. Again, the kids loved it. Who would have thought that. What really made the visit where the volunteers at the museum. They were friendly and really paid attention to my kids being there. They are good people. Worthwhile visit on a saturday.

Wonderful museum! Full of interactive displays as well as an impressive array of historic artifacts from Suffolk's Rail Road past. The winding climb up the floating stairs to the top of the observation tower gives you an authentic old-time railway man's view of the surrounding tracks...as well as a bit of a ghostly vibe! The Planter's Peanut display is both charming and nostalgic; however, my very favorite part of this delightful learning experience was seeing the incredible working model train system that sped its way through the highly detailed re-created miniature model of historic Suffolk. I would encourage anyone to treat themselves to this unique immersive experience, and as I left I found myself softly humming "The Ballad of Casey Jones".

I stopped by here this afternoon with a friend, and wasn't sure what to expect, but what I found wasn't it! Inside the old train station is a huge model railroad layout with several different trains, old railroad memorabilia, area information and a quaint gift shop. I was directed to the museum by the Visitor's Center, since I was looking for the records to the near by cemetery, which I was shown upon asking the volunteer there. For people who are interested in civil war history, the museum gift shop has some local books on the war in the Suffolk area that I haven't seen anywhere else. It was close to closing time when I arrived, and the visit was somewhat spoiled by a small, undisciplined child. The gentleman who was there was very nice and opened the caboose so we could go inside. It is a place to go back to again. There were no admission fees, donations accepted and appreciated.
