I was looking for something artsy to do with a friend. We normally go out to eat, but I wanted to do something to get our creative juices flowing. I've been here once before 5 or 6 years ago for a friend's birthday. We went on a Friday afternoon and it wasn't too crowded which was great. They explain how many coats you should paint and the different types of paints that they offer. The special glazes are an upcharge of $2/cup per table. They have a wide variety of pieces to choose from ranging from plates, mugs, ornaments, piggy banks, and more. The pricing is written on the bottom of each item. She let us know that the items are dishwasher/microwave safe. The paint selection is shown on a piece of pottery that is already fired in a kiln to show the finished look. They do come around and write down on a piece of paper the item you have and the price you're painting to bring up to the front to check out. I didn't feel rushed in any way, and they have other artist items on display for inspiration as well as for sale. We enjoyed our time, and the total was a bit pricey. $28 for the bowl and $34 for the mug. It will be ready in a week so I'm interested to see how the pieces will turn out.

A super fun place to go! I went with my friend and the experience was so fun. We both picked out little animals to paint and I love that there were so many options of sculptures to paint as well as so many paint colors we could choose from. The staff was friendly and helpful in explaining everything before we got started. I def recommend making reservations which is what we did because during our time there a few groups of people did come in as walk ins. My overall rate of experience: 9.5/10

This was a really cute spot and I had so much fun doing the pottery painting. Even though we came in on a busy day and had to wait the staff was honest about the wait time and were helpful when we finally did get seated. I also like how many options they have for different projects and colors!

This place is awesome! I'm totally going back. I was there for an event they helped us plan. There were so accommodating. There are so many options to paint. They even do glass art. Pricing was on point. The staff were so helpful and hard working. They have fun events from time to time and they have themed events as well. Follow their social media outlets to keep up to date.

Came here on Father's Day to celebrate and what a time! One it wasn't too crowded and we were immediately greeted by every staff member. They explained the whole process of choosing your activity, we chose pottery painting. They had a wide variety of pieces to choose from small to large and we chose a cupcake piggy bank, a bowl and a mug. Once you finish you do need to leave it with them to cure for a few days and mannnnn they came out so good! Because they have different artwork to do we will definitely be back!

* update* the owner reached out to us and explained how they trained their team so that this would not happen again in the future. It's not easy to make phone calls like this to customers, so we appreciated the gesture. They were not defensive, instead open to feedback, and it seems they want to improve their business for their customers.----------------------------------------I rarely leave feedback like this, you can see this from all my past reviews. We came in on a Sunday and made a bowl and a large resin frame. My son had a nice time and they were appropriately helpful and accommodating before we spent our money. So I *was* ready to come back and drop another small fortune until this put a bad taste in my mouth: while they claim to offer a military discount they didn't tell me this upon checkout. Perhaps they hope people won't ask about it? I only found out about the discount after paying when I saw their summer camp leaflet advertising military pricing.I inquired about it and they told me that sure, they offer a military discount but they don't volunteer that information when people are paying. I must have looked incredulously at that response because immediately it was retorted that people "just have to know about it" and "it's not like there is a reminder at the register..."Since they would not refund me for the discount I suggested they credit the discount I didn't get to a future project. Seems reasonable right? Nope, guess not. Sigh. Well, we won't be back, but they don't seem to need our business. Anyway, if you do end up going make sure you ask what the prices are before starting and don't forget to ask for the military discount, because they certainly won't remind you about it.

Shout out to my husband for finding this place! I thought it was going to be a regular sip and paint but it was so much better. They have pottery, glass creations, paintings, pre-made things, and much more. It's perfect for whether you're on a date, with your friends, or even want to bring your kids. The creatives there are all female and they are very intelligent in their niche.I seriously wish I would've found this gem sooner. If you ever get a chance to come here, please do. It's def worth the experience. & did I mention you can bring your own wine?!

This is a cute little gem in the middle of the Styron Square area of Newport News. It's a paint-your-own pottery place with additional types of artistic classes - paintings, stained glass, mixed media, etc. We haven't been for a class, but we did sign our son up for their Star Art camp this summer, so I thought I'd put up a review for anyone thinking about signing up kids for it.We did one week - it was $125 which included all the supplies and a snack/drink. Each day the camp was an hour and a half. Compared to some of the other camps we had our son in this summer, this was one of the more expensive for the actual number of contact hours with the kids. But the projects the kids created were incredibly interesting and high quality - certainly more advanced that I had anticipated for a kid's art camp. They were introduced to clay, mixed media, tie-dye, mosaic/stained glass, and some painting - a lot for a week! The advanced pieces were available to pick up the week following the camp. The staff was friendly and overall he seemed to enjoy it a lot. It's a good option for a summer camp in Newport News!

This is such a cute little studio with a lot to offer. They have resin art, glass fusion, traditional ceramic painting but also classes available as well. The prices listed include everything so there are no hidden fees. The staff is very helpful and attentive. During Covid operations, paint containers are sanitized after each use and the tables are socially distanced and mask policy enforced. My 11yo visited this studio (I had to convince her BTW) on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Although she was hesitant, we both had a great time. The staff was very helpful in walking us through the basics of resin art and attentive and encouraging as my daughter painted her ceramic bear. If you're looking for a nice place to go an unlock a bit of creativity that you didn't know you had, try this place. They have canvases on the wall so I'm pretty sure they have paint nights as well. Take a look at the website.. you won't be disappointed visiting Starving Artist. This could be a quaint date night too, there's at least 2 upscale restaurants in walking distance of this studio.
