Spotty Dog Ice Cream

I wish I came here sooner! It was such a lovely experience and felt like the neighborhood ice cream shop. It's quaint with limited seating. The employees were extremely welcoming, patient, and took extra care when we mentioned a nut allergy, even though it was a busy Friday night with a line out the door.They have New England style ice cream and Vermont style soft serve aka creemees only on weekends. Both styles have more fat content, making them creamier. They have pretty unique flavors. The cinnamon creemee tasted like cinnamon toast crunch milk. The movie nite is buttered popcorn flavored ice cream with buncha crunch and caramel - it was sweet and salty and had lots of texture. We're excited to try other flavors!

The staff were very welcoming and allowed samples of the flavors. They were able to make a cup of late night coffee. There are plenty of dietary options available such as vegan, dairy free, and gluten-free flavors. The space is super clean and decorated well for the holidays. They had holiday plants for sale. Great space and will return again.

Made a bold decision to drop by on a frigid Tuesday evening but Spotty Dog did not disappoint one bit! I tried the salted chocolate chip cookie which consists of creamy decadent vanilla ice cream with hefty chunks of salty chocolate chip cookie. Basically an inverted ice cream sammy but the ice cream is rich and the cookies are tastefully balanced with sweet and salty goodness. On top of the mouthwatering ice cream, the interior is super cute, clean and minimal and service was as sweet as the ice cream itself. Whether it's a scorching hot summer day or a snowy frigid winter night, Spotty Dog is 100% a must-try!

A top contender for best ice cream in RVA-- Spotty Dog has inventive new and exciting flavor combos that you wouldn't see at a regular chain. My favorite topping was potato chips on a Vermont Creamie! The s'mores was also a big favorite as well. Though the flavors rotate pretty often, it's almost always guaranteed that you'll enjoy something, and can count on the staff to be extra-kind to you. My one complaint is probably parking, since it's in Church Hill and doesn't have much more than street parking. as a result of being so popular, the line can be long as well. Worth the wait.

The key lime flavor was very good, hints of key lime and not overly sour. The graham crumble was great too.

This has to be my new favorite ~spot for ice cream! Though it is a bit of a trek from where I live, it's always worth it. Parking is somewhat easy, depending on the time of day, and you are near plenty of restaurants if you chose to go before/after. Pricing was fair, and there were a lot of options for sizes and other items besides a scoop of ice cream. The flavors are all unique and delicious - my favorite is the s'mores because you can truly taste the roast of the marshmallows and graham crackers. There is some seating inside and outside, or I recommend walking around the block as well. Can't wait for my next visit!

Visited this place 2 times! The staff is friendly and the ice cream was great! Our table was clean. We were able to find parking and have a seat inside at a booth. We didn't have to wait long in line.

Visited the Spotty Dog after a long day of walking around and enjoying Richmond. I wasn't expecting much but was blown away by the flavor options and the overall look of the creamery.I was helped by a nice person who worked at the bakery up the street and gave me some stellar recommendations on places to visit in the area. Parking can be tricky out here but if you look hard enough you'll find a place.I really loved the seating options and the atmosphere of the creamery as well. Overall, I'd recommend this spot to anyone looking for a reasonably priced ice-cream spot in the area.

I absolutely loved Spotty Dog and am so happy they are blessing Richmond with their presence! I visited town for the holidays and my friend took me here. They have the most creative flavors and I love that they let you sample everything. Their website is really comprehensive and lists all the ingredients on each flavor. I got a split scoop of the Salty Chocolate Chip Cookie (a basic, but amazing) and the Movie Nite. I thought the concept of Movie Nite was just so fun - popcorn in ice cream? Amazing. It's also really cool that they change their flavors so frequently. Super excited to come back next time I'm in Richmond.

While becoming temporary residents in Church Hill, Spotty Dog immediately became one of our favorite spots in this cute neighborhood and city. They come up with innovative ice cream flavors practically every month while also still serving their regular flavors such as Madagascar Vanilla - which is one of my favorites. When we are in town my husband and I frequent spotty dog at least 3 times a week - I know, can't be healthy. But their ice is so wholesome delicious. Their latest weekend addition is Vermont style creemes and I have to say they are even better than the creemes I've had in Vermont. Can't recommend this place enough - amazing and patient staff.
