Southside BBQ & Catering

It's hard to believe it's been nearly four years since my original review of Southside BBQ. I gave it five stars then and it is still a solid five star experience. My usual order is the combo meal with pork bbq, chicken leg quarter and two sides. They generously include a roll and a small cup of their delicious coleslaw along with a bit of their wonderful Pig Sauce. I usually select baked beans and macaroni & cheese as my sides. I think the baked beans are the best I've ever had and the Carolina-style pork bbq is also among the best I've experienced. The combo meal is priced at only $10 which is an amazing value. Every Wednesday they offer Chicken & Dumplings. Be sure to try it because it's really delicious. For dessert they offer delicious brownies every day as well as a variety of other desserts that vary from day to day. I really love the banana pudding and the lemon blueberry pound cake. Everything on the menu is homemade and really delicious. You will be pleased no matter what you choose to order.There is no seating so this is strictly a takeout restaurant. They offer catering services as well. Street parking is available and their is convenient free parking available across the street. If you haven't tried Southside BBQ & Catering you don't know what you are missing. Recently, Southern Living Magazine selected Southside as the fourth best bbq in Virginia. That's quite an honor but I have tried the restaurant they rated number one and I like Southside a lot more. I really appreciate this locally owned and operated restaurant. Joe and Vicki are active in the community and a great asset to the area.

holy toledo! this pork bbq is some of the best i have ever eaten! i got the bbq dinner which contained bbq, mac and cheese, baked beans, rolls, and brownies. everything was outstanding! joe and vicki are just the nicest couple-so friendly-and they know how to cook! southside will definitely be my go to bbq place from now on.

Maybe I came on an off day. I ordered the leg quarter and barbecue combo for lunch. The chicken tasted burnt and was extremely dry. The green beans and mac and cheese were pretty good. I would give the food 2 stars because the chicken was terrible (but it could just be an off day). I would definitely try this place again because the customer service was good customer service. The person at the cash register was friendly.

hands down. the best bbq i have ever had. pulled chicken = BOMB, baked beans = DELICIOUS, coleslaw = SCRUMPTIOUS, brownies = MOUTHWATERING, mac n cheese = FINGER LICKING GOOD! this is the type of food that you rave about for years. 100/10 recommend!!

It is cooked really good, and the size of the sandwich is an incredible value for your money. Give them a shot, you won't be mad

Excellent bbq and chicken, even better than mine and I can cook some chicken!!The pulled pork has the perfect amount of tang to it and the sides don't disappoint, wether it's the mac&cheese, baked beans, or green beans, you will not go wrong.The prices are absolutely reasonable and the people are incredibly friendly and professional.This is what I call happy food, it will turn a crappy day into a good day and a good day into a "gooder" day (:Great family owned and operated restaurant. It's only been here for about four years but feels like it's been part of Historic South Norfolk forever.You should definitely give them a try if you're in the area, and if you're not too far, it's worth the drive. They are right off the Poindexter exit from I-464.And remember, when you support a local business like this, you are helping a family send their kid or grand kid to college and not a CEO take a lavish vacation on some island!

Order the pulled pork regular sandwich and Chicken and Dumplings. The pulled pork has a smoke flavor it is the BEST. The tangy sauce is a little spicy for me. The chicken and dumplings were definitely homemade. I will be returning to Southside.

definitely recommend the pulled pork and mac and cheese with green beans and a rollalsoooo try the special sauce its insane the service was fast and quicly awesome loving people they hook the paltes up too food was nice and hotgirlfriend got the brownie and loves it it's delicious

I stopped in this evening for the first time, and it won't be my last. I ordered 2 pulled pork and 2 pulled chicken sandwiches. My sister raved about the smoky flavor of the pork and she said the Mac n Cheese and baked beans were excellent. I concur! The other family members haven't made it home to try theirs, but I'm positive they will love it as much as we did. The portions were great as was the friendly service. Enjoy!

I was asked to plan a luncheon for the staff, I gave 3 different choices (pasta, BBQ, and Mexican). BBQ was the choice. I had never heard of Southside but they were able to prepare and deliver at the time we needed. Customer service was spot on-helpful and polite.The food came on time and looked wonderful. We had pork BBQ, shredded chicken, mac n cheese, green beans, and slaw. Oh, I can't forget about the amazing browning!!!!! They were worth the call. Everyone raved about the food...."best BBQ we've ever ordered, this is really good-I like this place, good food-we should keep them in mind for next time" we just a few comments from my co-workers.I will definitely keep Southside in mind for future events. Job well done!!!
