Sooey's BBQ & Rib Shack in Nags Head is great place to get your BBQ fix. Overall, we enjoyed our experience - the service, speed and food were all good! Our server did an excellent job and made us feel at home. There's limited indoor seating; however, they have outdoor seating, as well as outdoor balcony seating that you can use for carry-out orders. The menu featured a wide variety of appetizers, sandwiches, platter & combos, and drinks. I recommend the Full Rack of Ribs (hickory smoked and slow cooked pork St. Louis ribs, smothered in Sooey's BBQ sauce) with a side of Fries and Collard Greens.

While the service here was great, the food was very disappointing. The pulled pork was extremely dry and way too vinegary for my preference. My family said that the fried chicken was fantastic, but this is not what I ordered. The first time we went, the ribs were good, but the second time they were very dry and overcooked. I love a homemade NC BBQ sauce, but their sauce just tasted like sweet baby rays.

Our group ordered an absolute feast from this place, and were not disappointed! We had ribs, fried chicken, pulled pork, and several sides and they were all winners. This place was a great value for a large group, and our favorites were the fried chicken and pulled pork, and the barbeque sauce was as great as we expected. (We were looking for a vinegar-y North Carolina sauce which is what this place has.) Will keep this on our list for the next visit!

This little hidden gem .. and I mean hidden did not disappoint. It sits off the main road across from large beach houses so best time to go is during the day when you can see it better. It is lit up kinda bright so that may help. This little spot gave us a taste of southern barbecue that was quite delicious. We had the NC shredded pork and spare ribs. The ribs were smoked with a light sauce and were quite tender and tasty. I had a side of coleslaw and baked beans which were pretty good. We also had the brisket which was absolutely amazing and a fried pork chop platter. The pork chops were a little tough though but the green beans and potato salad were impressive and I don't eat every ones potato salad. And then the sweet hush puppies were crazy delicious. I would definitely visit this place again.

Wife had pulled Pork sandwich which was juicy and tasty. Mac n cheese for both of us, nothing to write home about.I had half a rack of ribs, very good, tender, juicy. My wife said she ordered the wrong thing after sampling my ribs lol.Hush puppies very good as well as bbq sauces.The place itself was tight, had outdoor seating but too many flies.

Horrible food. Fried chicken was leftovers put back in the fryer - dry as a bone and way over cooked. I think the ribs were made sometime in the last century - again dry as could be & tough as shoe leather. The cole slaw was simply chopped cabbage with no sauce. Same for the hushpuppies, they were burnt. The single positive was that the baked beans were okay. I would say avoid this place at all cost - get your BBQ fix anywhere else.

So disappointing. When we learned of the devastating fire at our favorite BBQ place in Corolla, we decided to give Sooey's a try. Ordered ribs and pulled pork for takeout. Got home and only the ribs were in the aluminum container. No pulled pork. I even asked if the pork was in there when she handed me the container. She said yes. Turned out they got the order wrong. They did NOT charge me for the pulled pork. However they did charge me the 3% credit card fee even though I paid cash. My fault. I should have looked at the receipt. The ribs ended up in the trash. What little meat we found was very tough. This is the first time I have ever purchased ribs when I had to pay extra for BBQ sauce to accompany them. The sauce was very good, as it should be for about 4 ounces at $2.99.
