Smithfield Farmers Market is one of those places where the heart of the community shines. There's something wonderfully earthy about spending a Saturday morning here, surrounded by the fresh scent of farm-grown veggies and the hustle and bustle of local artisans showcasing their handmade crafts. Whether you're hunting for vibrant tomatoes or a unique piece of pottery, this market has a little something for everyone. The charm of the market is amplified by the musicians who play, lending a gentle soundtrack to the experience. It's the perfect way to linger and soak in the ambiance, adding a touch of soul to your shopping. While parking can be tricky, I love making the experience a bit more special by parking at Windsor Castle and enjoying a leisurely walk through the beautiful surroundings to get to the market. It's a delightful way to spend a Saturday, supporting local businesses, and connecting with the Smithfield community. Highly recommend it for a Saturday escape!

Wish there are more vendors at this market although it is noteworthy to mention that there is a variety of items being sold, enough to peak your interest to come back to explore. There are vendors of leather goods, wreaths, jewelry, cupcakes, Chili Hill Thai food, Filipino food, mocktails and shaved ice... It's great that this market is yet another summer staple that complements great stores in Smithfield such as Cure Coffeehouse and Yummaries Bakery. Definitely recommended to visit every summer Saturday from 9am to 12:30pm

Maybe we got there a bit late, but the selection wasn't great. Two vendors had corn; one did not look like it was picked that day like the corn I can get from the Eastern shore of Maryland. The locally made mead and harvested honey was nice to see and sample. Too bad I have a large stash of both back home. We didn't really peruse the textile vendors. One lady selling quilts was quite the huckster. I was hoping to see more fruits and vegetables. Prices were a bit high. My friend bought three potatoes and two ears of corn and she shelled out $5.00.

I've been trying to visit the Smithfield Farmer's Market for about a year now but I have either always overslept or had something that conflicted on my schedule for a Saturday morning between around 9am and noon. FINALLY - last weekend was my day. I was already in the area and it was about 09:45am and I had nothing but time on my hands (well - two hours before I had to be in Chesapeake for an appointment). I had a blast. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. I bought lotions, I smelled soap, I tasted honey, I bought fresh homemade local jam, I sampled all the breads and cookies from the bakery and bought some cranberry, apple bread (YUM) from Yummaries Bakery (aptly named for sure), I saw leather goods, fresh foods, I signed up for lettuce delivery, I saw jewelry, I saw animals, and Greek food and kettle corn and pumpkins. I could go on and on and on. It was everything I hoped it would be - no joke. It was worth the wait. I am looking into buying a home in Smithfield in the next few years and I would love to come here for fresh produce, lotions and soap, breads and cookies, jams and honey and cheese and lettuce, snacks and goodies for friends and family.Downtown Smithfield is so charming that once you are here for the Christmas market, you can stop in the many antique stores, bakery, restaurants, have breakfast or lunch, and enjoy yourself. I highly recommend it.

Nice little farmers market. All the usual stuff. On my visit a wood fired pizza was being served up and it was pretty tasting. Decent selection of locally grown vegetables, at least if the time of year is right (it was for me, which was much earlier in the year than the date on this review, which was sitting as a draft). And as far as the area, this is probably "as good as it gets", so five stars from me. Bottom line: If you are in Historic Smithfield, and the farmers market is going on, it a fun way to kill some time.

I'm sorry to say that I was really expecting more. I've been to others farmers markets that have had a lot more variety. This market was more focused on soaps and beauty products and artwork, things of that nature. I was going for produce and there were only 2 stands that offered those. The main produce stand only was down to 2 ears of corn by the time I arrived, which was only about 30 minutes after the market opened. Maybe the product will become more abundant in the coming months, but after a 40 minute drive for what I got, I wasn't thrilled.

I happened to be staying the weekend in the cute little town of Smithfield, and the farmers market was Saturday from 9am - 12pm in the parking lot behind where we were staying, so we decided to hop by, and I'm SO glad we did! I LOVED it! There was fresh fruits and vegetables, local honey, handmade soaps, essential oil items, bbq, homemade goodies and even someone who sold homemade doggie treats! There was a good variety of places to shop. There was also live music, so I enjoyed that:) I will definitely be coming back to the Smithfield Farmers Market sometime!

I haven't been to this Farmer's Market since the summer of 2014 and I would check to see when it is back in operation. My family is vegan and I took my kids there to see what they had. First of all, the vendors are extremely nice. A man was slicing up cantaloupes and my kids ate enough free cantaloupe that I felt obliged to buy one. They had music playing, local produce and honey all over the place, plants, yard sale items, and local crafts. The place was packed the day we went there but I found a parking space in the lot across the street. For what I thought would be a quick out an in ended up being a nice couple hour trip with the kids.

Love this market! We stopped in here last Saturday as it was out first weekend living in the area and we had heard good things. This reminded us a lot of farmers markets near where we went to college in Oregon. All of the vendors were locals selling produce or handmade goods, no direct sales vendors, which is nice. We had a delicious pizza from the pizza stand, best pizza I've had in the area! We bought some delicious smelling scent melts and some oreo bread. We would have bought all the tasty produce but we are staying in a hotel right now and had no way to enjoy it. We will definitely be back!

This is probably one of the best in the area, and especially best for the size of the surrounding area.I went to the one in Suffolk around Bennetts Creek, a couple in Chesapeake and they were so anemic compared to this one. There are usually over 50 vendors a week.Where else can you get a nice gourmet pizza, some jewelry for mom, and adopt a kitten in one felled swoop? It's worth a trip into downtown Smithfield on a Saturday morning. It's a dog friendly atmosphere. Please go!
