We planned the day around going to Ashland to check out Sleepy Fox. According to their website and Facebook they open at 12. We got there at 3 and it was locked up with nobody in sight. Even the sign on the door says it opens at 12, yet they were not. We checked their social media again to make sure there wasn't some post saying they were closed or opting late for some reason, but the last post was from two weeks ago. If they aren't open at 3pm on a Saturday then chances are they won't be open whenever you plan on stopping by. I recommend skipping this place.

Sleepy Fox is my favorite moonshine distillery in Metro Richmond! I think it's actually the only one I've been too, but honestly it's my top Saturday outing space..The offer 10.00 flights! Yes! Flights of moonshine! You can either try 6 different moonshines or 3 and a mix drink. I enjoy the Maggie Bailey mixed drink. It's a summer drink that includes lavender.. I recommend all newcomers to try the flight of 6! They offer a moonshine that is 150 proof, 90proof, 80 proof! All the proofs! My favorite is the apple pie moonshine and the cherry! They are silencers lol! They don't have the bite that the 150 or bourbon moonshine has. So if you're ever in the Hanover area give them a gander.

I've visited the country store next door several times and suggested a team outing to the tasting room. My coworker called ahead to see if we could also bring desserts for a cupcake competition we were having. They shared it was fine to being the cupcakes.Upon arrival, my coworkers shared they must have been invisible to staff because we were not greeted, but told to move due to blocking doorway. At this time I entered and they were just standing around. The gentleman shared he needed to see everyone's IDs. My coworker made a joke about us being underage and the employee was totally rude. In tone and demeanor. The owner attempted to smooth it over by saying his employee was exhibiting dry humor, but he was being quite serious and was not joking. We decided to leave and walk over to Mexico Restaurant instead. The only male coworker commented the "whole vibe was off" .On the way out, the owner asked us to try them again. As long as the rude employee works there, I won't be returning. That type of behavior was excused and I won't be visiting Layne's since the owner is the same person.

Disappointed by my experience at The Salty Pig's new location paired with Sleepy Fox Distillery. I hope the 'deli' theme will soon be replaced by the more familiar restaurant style setting with real food that is not limited to sandwiches and pub grub. The brisket was dry and not as good as I remember from their former location. Some of my favorites weren't included at the new location but I was told more is to follow. My advice, focus more on turning out great food and less on chatting it up with bar patrons. I hope it improves but time will tell. I'm just not convinced that this will be anything more than another watering hole. Sadly, I will not be making a trip back to Ashland anytime soon for this one.

I had never been to a distillery until Sunday. That's a dang shame and I'm glad that I can say that trend is over. I'm looking forward to heading to distilleries and I'm fairly certain that Sleepy Fox will be seeing me again. My experience was wonderful. The hostess was extraordinarily friendly and knowledgeable. She knew a lot about the flavors and even more about what people liked. I got the flight which was 6 tastings of the different blends. I chose the apple pie (which is a top seller), Maple, Peach, Cinnamon, the 2 year aged bourbon, and the 5 year aged bourbon. I loved all of them but I was especially enamored with the peach and 5 year aged bourbon. Not only did they flights but there were mixed drinks. My wife had the mojito which she was kind enough to share with me.Best of all, this entire only left is $18 out of pocket including the tip for the hostess. Anyone who follows my reviews knows that I love burgers, pizza, wings, and salad. Well, bourbon/whiskey/scotch/brandy/cognac are my other passions and I know them kinda good. What I had at Sleepy Fox was very good!

Stopped in last Thursday for the first time. We happened to be there around 11am (2 hours before opening) but the friendly staff at the attached Country Store welcomed us in and gave us a tasting. The bottles are immediately eye catching. There were several flavors of moonshine - the Apple Pie was our favorite - but we really enjoyed the Maple Whiskey. Hands down our favorite overall. (Note: due to Virginia ABC rules about tasting amounts we did not try the Vodka or Straight Bourbon). Makayla was very knowledgeable about each spirit and gave us a lot of detailed background about the business, etc... HIGHLY recommend. The sandwiches that the attached Country Store were making looked FABULOUS as well. We will definitely return!

One of my favorite restaurants, The Salty Pig has moved into this establishment. I had eaten at The Salty Pig in their former location before and always had great food. This is the first time at the Sleepy Fox. Glad we weren't in a hurry because it took forever for someone to wait on us even though it was not busy. After we were waited on things went pretty smooth with the waitstaff. Now to be honest I am not a Moonshine fan but have had good Shine before. I got a flight of their Shine and Burbon and had to choke it all down. Was not a fan. The wife got a Passion Fruit made with Shine and she loved it. After my flight I had a few beers. They do have a really good selection of craft beer as well as "regular beer". Of course, the food was great as The Salty Pig always is. The place is rather small, and they had a 3-piece band playing in the corner which was decent. Not so loud you couldn't think. The atmosphere is nice. It is more of a bar type setting rather than a restaurant. The patrons are an older crowd though there were a few younger ones. Overall, it's a decent place. Just not a fan of the Shine.

I drove over to try the place out and it was locked/closed. Hours posted next to door said it should be open but and no note on the door. Very disappointing. Took plenty of pics of an empty bar.

The business doesn't keep hours or socials updated. Location is currently closed except for catering and lunch delivery with 48hr notice. Business is moving to a new location and will not reopen til March 2023.

We were excited to go eat at the Salty Pig and have some bourbon from the distillery. We arrived a bit before 7 on a Thur. We were gruffly greeted and told to sit wherever, then the bartender told us they had closed early. The posted hours on the door were 8 pm, on yelp it was 9 pm. It seems like a bad business practice to close a restaurant before it's stated hours. How will a new business build up clientele? We're not enthusiastic to try again.
