This place was good. I've been here 3 times now and had 3 different cooks. All of them were good, some were less "flashy" but the food was consistent good between all of them. The place is a typical teppanyaki place with multiple griddles in a room. The drinks come in these cool mugs if you get their special cocktails. Overall the ambiance was nice. As far as their service it could've been a little better with the waitress maybe coming by to check on drinks a little faster but it wasn't that big of a deal. Overall I'd recommend this place if you find yourself in the VB area.

An entertaining dinner. Good food. Wish it was a bit more cooler since the flames all around made the room very very warm.

Ww made reservations for 6pm and when we arrived 20 minutes early we were pleasantly surprised that they seated us immediately. The restaurant was empty but quickly filled up. Each table seats 18 people from what I could see, with two cook surfaces. Since our side was full, we were first to receive service. The first course was the mushroom broth soup which was delicious. The second course was the salad, also delicious. Once we were done with our salad, the chef came out to confirm everyone's orders. I ordered the steak and shrimp combo, my sons both ordered the steak & chicken combo. When you go to a restaurant like this, the best part besides the food is the show. The chef usually starts with lighting the cooktop on fire which usually sets the tone for the rest of the evenings show type displays. Our chef sadly did none of the other fun things to see, the onion smoke stack, train, tossing the egg in the air & into his hat or breaking it with the cooking utensil. I'm guessing he didn't put on a show because we only had one young child at the table which sucked for the kid. He missed out on the fun part. As the chef served the food, he was generous with the food with the people who sat to his right. By the time he got to us, he had to scrap and divide one portion among the three of us. I noticed also (and so did my sons) that if there was any extra meat on the cooktop, the chef divided it among the men, completely ignoring me and the other woman at the table. The food had very little flavor, I was pretty disappointed. It was an expensive meal with lackluster flavor and mediocre experience. When it was time to get the check, the server told each one of us that she has to split the tip with the chef and to tip her the maximum indicated on the receipt (or more). She even circled the tip amount she wanted.I'm all about tipping generously but when the service and food is good. I still gave them a good tip, just not a 30% tip. I rated this a three because of the "no show" show, flavorless food and being told what I should tip. I gave this a three rating because the service was

I appreciated that the restaurant has adequate tables and were able to sit us fast and start service. The hostess was very nice and communicated everything we needed to know and was very friendly. Our waitress wasn't as friendly and didn't help as far as accommodations needed for food allergies. The chef was nice and did a great job. Only negative was that the food wasn't very flavorful but their homemade sauces were very tasty and helped the meals.

Ordered takeout and waited an hour to receive my food which wasn't nearly as good as the wait. They charge you gratuity for takeout! Who does that? The portion size is horrible compared to the price to pay. Save your money and go elsewhere.

Came as a family of 8 for my niece's 13th birthday. Ambiance: Very mellow. Plenty of seating and they even had a separate lounge/bar to wait in while we waited on the rest of our party. Our seating was a little tight but comfortable. We shared our table with a couple. (I've never understood that)Customer Service:Our server was amazing & attentive. She was easy to communicate with and had a great personality. She kept us informed at all times. Food & drinks:The food was delicious. The portions were great. My only complaint was they add ons (such as shrimp or extra chicken) costs almost as much as your meal. Drinks were loved by all. I particularly loved the option of purchasing the entire bottle of sake. It was cheaper than by the glass & I could take what I didn't finish with me.

wait staff was rude. I took BF there for gusto birthday. The one I went to in Chattanooga on my birthday a few years ago was awesome. They put on a show and did the birthday celebration. Not this one. The Lobster and Fileminion was overcooked. The cook didn't put on a show. He acted like he didn't want to be there at all. He basically threw the rice at us. When BF mentioned the overcooked Lobster and steak, they wouldn't fix it. I don't mind paying that price for good food and a good experience but that was horrible. They also didn't do the birthday celebration for him. It really was a bad experience. I will never darken tne door of a Shogun again.

My nephew's ship was in port for a few days, so we decided to treat him to a nice change from Navy chow.We had reservations for 7PM, and were seated by 7:05; the hostess was very nice, as was the waitress who promptly took our drink orders. After placing our main course orders, we were served salad and a delicious soup. The actual hibachi was entertaining to watch as it was prepared, and very tasty (pro tip: get double or even triple fried rice, so you'll have leftovers for lunch the next day). The only negative was that Tony, a hilariously entertaining (and sometimes inappropriate) chef who we always used to request, no longer works at Shogun; our chef was good, but it wasn't the same.If you're looking for a fun and tasty meal for family or a small group, I definitely suggest giving Shogun a try.
